    • If I remember right Doug is making a 5th wheel travel trailer out of his Sunrader. Not sure what he is hauling it with but it will still be thousands of pounds less than most 5th wheels on the road. Those are great points if it would be a motored with the original 3.0, mine loves 55, 65-70 not so much.

    • Hi, I did almost the same job on my '91 Winnebago Warrior and I'm following you project from the beginning. You are very meticulous and hard working person. I see how much love you are investing in your rig and what I will write down could be unpleasant for you, but I think I need to do that. From what I see in the pictures you are using heavy materials (thick playwood and etc.). Definitely you are building a tank, that will last forever. The problem with the tanks is they weights a lot. The original Toyota campers are known to be already  overloaded even if the manufacturers used light weight materials.

When I gutet my rig and redo the interior I did my best to follow the same way as the Winnebago - use fin plywood reinforced with small pieces of wood for walls and cabinets. For the floor Winnebago used linoleum, I used thin corck membrane (a lot of people will use regular laminated flooring, but again that's heavy compared to linoleum used by factory).

I already traveled some thousands miles with my rig after renovations and I struggle to keep up with the traffic speed, Toyota campers are comfortable with 50-55 MPH, and force a lot when you try to get 60 MPH. I struggled going uphill and almost lost my brakes (and life) downhill. I ower heated the brakes trying to go downhill in one shot, after this very unpleasant experience I will go downhill in multiple shots.

My rig have a 3 vze engine and I hope you have the same and not the 22re. I saw one guy trying to fit a 4,7L Tundra engine in Toyota camper and I guess that will fix the problem with overload. But I still can't find a way to improve the brakes.

I just wanted to share my opinion and experience with you and I hope I didn't offended ore demotivated you.

Keep going and thank you to keep us updated!👍

I use rock auto for stock and interchange numbers. Then order the part through Amazon or Walmart online. If the parts wrong, Amazon has free returns. Walmart you can return to any store.

Unfortunately, amazon is also notorious for counterfeit parts and pure trash. People are somehow surprised when they order a set of 4 injectors for a car for $30 and are repeating the job a week later with better parts. I had a drive shaft shop decline to install my amazon purchased carrier bearing in a driveshaft because they say more often than not they're counterfeit and they won't warranty that work, they were quite surprised when they looked at my bearing and found it to be authentic!

In today's world the only sure guarantee for authentic parts seems to be straight from a dealer or straight from the big box stores (NAPA, etc).
