jayserkdoo
I think I've managed to stumble across a super rare improved 5 lug rear axle found on some 86-87 models (the one in question happens to be on 86). Can anyone confirm based on these photos? Based on the FAQ, I believe that outer ring of bolts gives it away. And, is this super rare beefed up 5-lug a true full floating 1 ton? Or is it just an in-between? Are they still dangerous? I know this would have have been post-recall right so I can't imagine there would have been any issues with it/

It doesn't look like the foolie, why does it have the outer rim of bolts? Pic of an obvious foolie attached. I also ran this vin on the NHTSA database and NO recalls were reported back (JT5RN55D7F01373310). So I'm a bit perplexed here.
linda s
Hey James who wrote the axle facts many years ago was wrong. There is no safe 5 lug dually. No problems had been reported yet so why would Toyota retool a factory to make a handful of axles. Not good business Linda S Also there were no recalls on your truck because Toyota shipped a perfectly safe single wheel truck to the US. The recalls were against the motorhome manufacturers who installed the fake duallies and didn't happen till 1992.
linda s
Guess the recall date was 1991. National Rv Recall Campaign 91V060000 POWER TRAIN | AutoMD By this time many of the Toyota motorhome manufacturers had gone out of business so there was no one left to repair them. National RV, Dolphin, was very active in searching for owners and replacing the axles. Toyota who had done nothing wrong stepped up and sent thousands of full float axles for these repairs and offered them to owners of other brand motorhomes too. It was the end of the Toyota dually unfortunately. Linda S
