  1. I have heard anecdotal statements of increased mpg with over inflated tires. I have not seen one controlled study showing anything other than insignificant increases in mpg. Had new tires put on and they filled them to 65 psi, thought I was going to jar my teeth out on the ride home.
  2. Need to look more for tires, available all over the net. https://www.prioritytire.com/by-size/185r14-tires/?fbclid=IwAR2OrIsL21ayTxeXDBr0hoIYGp5tjk0uPkf3P1rckEOr9wYRiKdEqzZGl3c
  3. Know nothing about it, saw the picture on social media and thought some might enjoy it! uniqe.html
  4. When I took my tank out I reached in an took a bit of what was laying on the bottom out, There was likely enough to fill a 16 oz can in the bottom of the tank, also quite a bit trapped in the fuel sump.
  5. Yup, and old filter was full of crud. I checked into this, seems that manufacturers are not maintaining equipment and threads and such are not right. I measured and the inside threads in the filter were out of wack enough that the flare would not seat. Not to worry dying in a fiery explosion is a great way to go. Even write songs about it! A real mechanic might have asked where all the crud in the filter came from. In my case it was the gas tank, it was a mess inside and I ended up replacing the fuel pump on a trip. In hindsight the in tank filter, sock. Might have been so plugged it would not allow gas to pass. Recently pulled the tank and had it professionally cleaned and lined. $245 in Florida.
  6. Here is the latest amended list from NHTSA https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RMISC-20E026-7892.pdf
  7. They are a big help when you are sitting with a new Denso fuel pump and someone posts that millions of Denso pumps have been recalled. 😂 Complete list Vechile manufacturerPart No.TOYOTA195140200TOYOTA195140201TOYOTA195140202TOYOTA195140204TOYOTA195140222TOYOTA195140248TOYOTA195140249TOYOTA195140255TOYOTAAF195140239TOYOTAAF195140246TOYOTA291100021TOYOTA291100042TOYOTA291100043TOYOTA291200100SUBARU291100112SUBARU291100113SUBARU291100119SUBARU291100166SUBARU291100170SUBARU291100190HONDA291100114HONDA291100127HONDA291100135HONDA291100136HONDA291100138HONDA291100156HONDA291100159HONDA291100186HONDAAF291100125HONDAAF291100140HONDAAF291100143HONDAAF291100144
  8. I get around to taking my gas tank out and sending it out for cleaning and lining. $240 out the door with a 1 year warranty from a reputable shop. In the meantime I ordered parts including a new Denso fuel pump. I am all set to reinstall the tank and find out that there is a massive recall of Denso fuel pumps!! Not wanting to install a defective pump I scour the net looking for info, a 1000 articles on make, year model and class action law suits and not one part number! As best I can tell this is the list of part numbers of recalled pumps. Hope this helps someone. Toyota has yet to announce the details of this recall. The following numbered Toyota parts are affected: 195140201 195140222 195140249 291100043 291200100 291200200 291200202
  9. If I had an RV with about the same HP as my lawn mower I would not be adding AC! I would be looking at running the house AC on generator and adding a circulating fan or 2 to force the house air through the cab. I did this after seeing what the cost of adding driver AC would cost on my bus conversion. Cannot imagine what a whole new system from scratch would cost, but would hazard a parts cost guess of $1400!
  10. There is a lady sitting in TX for 6 months that cannot find anyone to work on hers. People keep saying that parts and service are easy to find, yet she has posted on 2 forums that I know of and no one has recommended a mechanic to her! If you are a diesel mechanic that does not mind poking along in the slow lane and waiting for parts from Asia, would be a good buy.
  11. I have owned cars for long time. Mostly automatics and 3 or 4 sticks. I have replaced one clutch but never had an automatic transmission fail! That said one auto almost cost me $2800 at Sam Galloway Ford in Ft Myers FL. When they told me the transmission needed rebuilding. A second opinion at an independent shop gave an appraisal for $1900. My Friend Gerald Jenkinson diagnosed the problem over the phone from 2 states away as a vacuum leak. Repair cost me a $4 vacuum hose. Leads me to believe that an awful amount of transmissions are rebuilt that do not need it!
  12. It is claimed that Startracks uses the Araldite, but cannot figure out which one?? https://www.startracks.org/
  13. I have been looking into this for an upcoming project. Starbond is the best and recommended by filon manufacturer. Over $300 gallon it does not get used by DIY'er often! Araldite, is often mentioned, they have so many products I cannot figure which one is used on filon??
  14. Ahhh Derek said he is not gone yet!
  15. There are some real misguided people posting about tire pressure on the forums. But if Willy Winnebago the Toy guru says to run your tires at 65 psi you better listen. Higher mpg with tires over inflated is very minimal. Longer braking distances and hydro planing and damaged tires and wheels are much more likely at higher pressures. Here is a video from Michlen, they have produced tires for over 100 years, have bus loads of engineers and truck loads of computers and billions of miles of experience to draw on. They also have access to gov and university data from all over the world. Plus if the publish something that causes accidents or injury they are liable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-gPwNZgDGA
  16. I recall a struggle getting a belt to fit, I was thinking someone had replaced the pulley on the PS pump. Think I found I was moving the pump in the wrong direction. Anyway this belt worked. NAPA Premium XL 25-9480
  17. I like to solder wherever practical and use heat shrink tubing. I do not recall ever having a soldered joint fail. Although I have heard of solder in circuit boards causing issues. Lots of You Tube videos on how to do it.
  18. With electric off, I do the best I can to discharge the capacitor with it in place, difficult to do with the wires in the way so use insulated pliers to remove a couple. I also discharge it after getting all wires off to make 100% sure it is discharged. Says 380 volts on the capacitor and even at low amperage that is a lot of volts. Keep in mind everything I post is my opinion based on my experience and worth what you are paying for it!
  19. 20 years ago all I knew about AC was turn it on turn it off and clean the coils. 12 years ago I moved to Florida and was shocked and outraged by what AC people are getting away with and have tried to learn what I could. So not an expert or AC tech by any means. A simple explanation is it is very similar to a battery, it stores electric. So when handling one need to be careful, they can have enough voltage to kill! Like a battery if the specifications are the same, even though the battery or capacitor is shaped differently if it will fit it is good to go. Can use different voltage, but I have to look that up. The 15+5 UF are important, ie Farads. 15 farads to kickstart the compressor and 5 farads to kickstart the fan. So I would use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTQi5rTJIw8 Very important that you get the wires in the right place, take a few pictures before you disassemble. C is common, Fan is self explanatory and herm means compressor.
  20. Unless you have a meter to test farads, there is no way I would buy a used cap off Ebay! You can walk into most HVAC suppliers with that capacitor in hand and they will sell you an equivalent one. This is an equivalent cap 15+5 uf 370 volts. As long as the round will fit in the box. https://www.amazon.com/Motor-Capacitor-Round-15-12703/dp/B00C0YSDKI
  21. 2 motors on a Duo Therm Brisk air?? Can you post a picture of that? I have the schematic for Brisk air if you know model # If a hard start has already been installed and failed it can stop the compressor from starting.
  22. Sounds like capacitor, job for a pro. Definitely not beyond the average persons skills with a bit of You Tube help. In lieu of a meter that will test farads some people buy a replacement capacitor, if it is not the issue then have a spare capacitor. Unplug RV before jamming screwdrivers into electrical stuff on the roof LOL.
