stamar
So, I went and pumped up the air shocks and it definitely made a difference. But it didn't really cure it all, the suspension is just still too soft. I was wondering, do people with these things ever put air bags on top of air shocks? Or are air shocks already kind of like smaller air bags? I mean once there's air in there, does more make any difference? in related news, the front shocks are not air shocks, and they are just plain shot. Whats the toughest front shocks commonly used on toyota trucks? Something from kyb?
5Toyota
havent done my dolphion yet but have very very stiff car quest gas schocks on my 1988 4wd xtra cab been on for several years good as new all later dolphions came with air bags but mine are gone removed by somone
stamar
well mine the oem is air shocks. Gabriel I believe. They are probably the orignals seem to still work I just pumped them up. For tthe later ones they dont have air shocks AND air bags do they? They have regular gas shocks ( like kyb) and air bags right? Does anyone use air shocks AND air bags out there? Totem
you will not find better shocks than Bilstein. also put a stabilizer bar. it will ride like a cloud of t'ts
WME
Air shocks = bad Air bags = good New shocks (4) = good. Air shocks are bad because they place the load on the shock mounts, the airbags place the load on the springs or axle.
stamar
ok well then if you had air shocks and an airbag where would the load be? but anyhow im ready to pencil in 4 shocks and 2 airbags. but the first step is definitely 2 new shocks in the front. Does anyone have a direct link to bilstein shocks for the front of the 79 motorhome? cant seem to find them. found kybs....http://www.amazon.co...m=ATVPDKIKX0DER and a front or rear stabilizer? direct link for the long wheelbase 79 motorhome
Derek up North
I'd go for the KYB Gasajust (NOT the GR-2). http://www.shockwarehouse.com/index.cfm?mode=results&selected_model=4489&selecte\ d_year=1979
stamar
ok updated. I try to get it from amazon cause the shipping is free. It doesnt seem theres front shocks for the 79 motorhome from bilstein available. Rear ones. Ill order those later if I decide to mix up bilstein and kyb. SO theres airlift, and also firestone as far as air bags. http://www.amazon.co...e&vehicleType=6 wishing that these would fit mine http://www.amazon.co...37469145&sr=8-1 but it says 84. what is diffirent in 84 that makes it not fit anyone? why i ask is that the rear ones fit all toyota trucks until 95 but the frontss start at

Was negociated several years ago so don't know if it's still valid Linda S I "talked" to John (owner of shockwarehouse) when my order failed to show but after paid in a paypal transaction. I should more say it was a harangue where upon I was screamed at for complaining after 5 weeks and no shocks. I had emailed him 3 times... no reply until the money was reversed which kicked off paypal dispute. hopefully you all have better luck. customers should never be treated that way by my book; though he sees it differently and by treated i mean not yelled at for asking for correspondence 5 weeks after an order is placed; why am I the bad guy??? So I used a another site Derek, not as cheap for you but I will pay more not to deal with that plus I could go there and pick them up and not pay shipping. my source for bilsteins: http://donssport.com/ LOL... i just checked ... my guy is still cheaper than our "discount". http://www.eshocks.c...stein&SubChar=Q is the drilled down view and prices. linda s
Definately better price than shockware house. Thanks for the link. The shockwarehouse place is the one most often mentioned on the toyota campers site and I don'tthink I've heard any complaints before. But when it's you one bad experience is enough. Good to know. And I GUARANTEE that they dont yell at you or forget to mail your thing for 5 weeks. free shipping, and a lower price, and no tax ever. Am i right? edit nm. just those bilsteins that dont fit most seem to be exactly the same as shockwarehouse.
5Toyota
DOES THE 1979 still have the a frame and coil spring set upon the front. the later ones all use the torson bar front set up that might be the reason for the difference on the shocks . stamar
yes it does it has a arms coil springs and really wimpy shocks for an economy car. crazy it has 1 ton truck level shocks for the rear and these tiny little bike frame sized things for the front I think gas adjust will be a big upgrade. Totem
oh, we are fitting a 1979? oops... i missed that part., but no, amazon no better and often worse; i have had similar experiences with Amazon sellers; you do know that amazon just takes a cut off of a seller in many cases right ? (like parts)... that being said I used amazon to get my swaybar kit.
