  1. Well a food fight, haven't had one in a while This is a new type of sound and heat reduction. Its been well received in the hot rod and audio world. Eastwoods line is new and is the only one claiming heat and sound reduction in one product. Lizardskin and Spraydead have been making this type for several years. How ever they do have sound and heat control as separate products. It controls the many resonances that steel panels will develop and will change the tinny Toyota door slam to a Rolls Royce thunk. The hear barrier wont reduce the inside temp of your Toy to 60 degrees on a 100 degree day, but it will reduce the heat from the cat converter under the drivers feet and reduce the heat coming from the engine and the exhaust through the floor. Replacing seats soon????? perfect time to remove the carpet and interior panels and apply one of these products to the entire cab and to the door skins. Not to the panels On my Toy, before this stuff was available, I used Refeltix on the door panels, the floor, on the walls inside the dinette benches and any where else I could l lay it. It worked within its limits The Chevelle will get 2 coats of this stuff when I strip the insides to redo it. I'll see how well it helps control the rumbles of a healthy V-8
  2. Well no one has ever accused Hot Rod owners or Toyota MH owners of being practical. You have got a foot in each world.
  3. Plan B http://www.eastwood.com/heat-and-sound-barrier-coating-1-5-gallon-kit.html
  4. Lets see 3 weeks 5.5 days a week = 16.5 days x 8 hr a day = 132 hr x $50 hourly shop rate(really cheap) = $6,600. hum maybe going a mountain grade at 24mph has its merits. Good luck with all the fiddly stuff left.
  5. So if you subtract the time you spent on self inflicted problems, instrument panel and such, how long would it take to install the next Lexus in another Toy?
  6. Starting to look like you caught the hording disease from Linda and Randy. Be careful it will get worse
  7. We have a generator powered 13.5 K AC, an Endless Breeze Fan and a Fantastic vent fan. 2 of the 3 get used together often. The breeze fan and vent fan work great until its about 80 outside.
  8. We're back!!!!! All those interested in next years trip "Storm Chasing with your RV" sign up now. 8 days, 5 Severe thunder storm warnings, 2 flash flood warnings and the topper, 1 tornado warning. The thrill of hunkering down in your well built Rv with 1" an hour rain fall, hail, and 50 mph winds won't soon be forgotten. Yes siree we will be going to the Dakotas again real soon. I guess all the rain that CA isn't getting has to go some where. Had to skip the Peace Garden in ND and Devils Tower, but managed Pompeys Pillar, Theodore Roosevelt national park, also stopped at Hart Mountain internment center. High point was Buford WY, the highest town on I-80, 8000ft, population 1. Its real and even has a zip code 82052. It serves as a mail center for all the ranches scattered around. The next time the eternal question of "do I really need an AC and generator" comes up, I'll remember 3 days in Hazelton ND sitting in the corner of a C Store parking lot in 85 degree-75% humidity weather. We put about 20 hr on the genset in 3 days
  9. Well not a perfect answer, but many RVs have pole mounted tables. There is a socket on the floor, a 3" pipe and a socket under a table top. My first rv had 2 that were about the size of a tv dinner tray. Worked great and lived in a closet when not in use. This way you get your couch and your wife can be civilized when she eats off her table.
  10. Well your primary concern is power! If your a desert person then there is a possibilty of using a swamp cooler, they can run on solar and a couple of large batteries. If your in MS fer get about it. By eleminating the roof, back bumper and a portable you have just about eleminated all AC. The last posibility is a small house window AC mounted through the side or high in the rear if your handy. Try looking at some pictures of class b motor homes (vans). Some of them have house units mounted in the back.
  11. Look at the specs to run the AC. Your going to be pulling around 100 amps from your batteries! Thats 1500w of solar power. OR you will be running a 1500w generator.
  12. Why? Its primarly an AC the heat strip is an add on. Most roof AC have heat strips available. It requires 110v to run, the propane heater is around 12,000 btu, the heat strip is 7,000 but.
  13. Not really harmful, but its unlikely that the batteries will be fully charged. The weakest battery will charge first and prevent the other one from reaching full charge. I'm talking like the 2 6v are a single 12v.
  14. An alternator should be over 14v when running.
  15. This years vacation should have been a staycation. Not a road trip. This trip has been funny like MASH was funny. Picked up mother-in law and sister- in-law at the airport, next day left on trip. Saw Crazy Horse and " Da 4 Guys" (in laws are from Hawaii, so local joke). Went to Ellsworth AFB for the famcamp. At 11:30 PM a tornado warning was issued. At 12:10 is was cancelled and a high wind (60-70 mph) warning with 1.5" hail was issued. The people at the RV camp were evacuated to a shelter and I was able to move the RV to the lee of a building. At 1:15 the wind storm and hail passed. 40 mph and 1/2" hail actually. 1:30 returned to RV camp.... Have a nice night sleep!!!!!!!!!!! Next day went to Wall drug and the Bad lands. Spent the night at WalMart in Pierre SD, no tornado but major thunder storm. SIL does not like thunder especially when the lightening and thunder are at the same time. Next day left for the Peace Gardens in ND. 20 miles N of Linton ND the engine water pump came apart, literally, I never seen a water pump fail like that. I cut off the fan belt so that the fan was not trying to eat the radiator. Drove 5 mi before the engine got to hot, pulled over let it cool. Drove 5 more miles then cool time...etc for 20 mi. Get to town after the repair shop closed. Rats but they are open on Saturday, yea. NOT so fast,,,,, this Sat is county fair, and parade so the shop is closed until Monday!!!!!!!!! So is the parts place. After all the county fair is the big deal in nowhere ND Written as we sit in shop parking lot.
  16. The audio freaks use huge capacitors (4400 watts), maybe one these on the input of your inverter will give you the power boost you need to start your refer.
  17. Your ideas and methods are good. But in this case the Toy is an automatic and there is no mention of removing starter or locking the engine. The torque required is over 180 lb ft. I would guess that the breakover torque is around 50-75 ft lb
  18. Unless the engine was locked somehow, I doubt the bolt was over torqued because, even if the wrench was set on stun, the engine would move. Even with a proper torque wrench, its very hard to get 150 lb ft of torque on the bolt.
  19. I don't know if it would work on a shortie, but the View motor homes have a solid piece from wall to wall. It tilts up and is held up with gas struts like a tail hatch. Maybe the same idea just using some blocks to hold it up??
  20. You already have a good backup camera, its called WIFE. Just have her look out the back window when its a tight backup.
