  1. The fuses for your coach section are in your power center. Should be somewhere inside the coach, square metal face on a cabinet with a drop down front. Fuses inside Linda S
  2. Timbrens are another option for more lift there. Usually a little cheaper than air bags and they can't deflate. I have heard from a couple of people who used them and they thought the ride was less bouncy than air bags and decreased the lean noticably. Linda S
  3. Yeah I've seen a few Sand Pak's. I like the roof line on them. Make's them look even more retro Linda S
  4. ooh we'll call it the Earthrader Linda S
  5. That is a neat site. I could spend hours just traveling around and not even use any gas. Also save from camping disasters. I have gone places I thought were going to be great and weren't lots of times Linda S
  6. I don't think any of our motorhomes have a plug for an OBD scanner. You have to jump a connector in the engine compartment and then just count the flashes on the dash. On my 86 there are 2 yellow plugs on the drivers side fender wall. It's one of those, don't remember which one. Here i found instructions and the codes you need to know http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TroubleCodes/ Linda S
  7. Yup found lots of rubber roof material for cheap as long as you don't mind a black roof on your RV. Can't think of anyone who would want black. I did find some slightly cheaper epdm in white but not much cheaper. Add the bonding materials and all the other stuff you need and it still comes in at 400 plus. I have a couple of friends with Americana's that are due for new roofs soon. Find me some cheap white stuff so I can tell them where to buy it Linda S
  8. I have heard of several people whose aluminum roofs got pitted and started to leak. Might be the cause of some mystery damage people find after they buy a great looking motorhome. My friend Randy had to coat his but I don't know what he used. Rubber roofing materal is expensive and needs frequent maintenance. 9. Well Toyota must have known people were having issues with the tranny's because they started adding an extra tranny cooler in 1987. What you keep calling anecdotal is the reports of dozens of very experienced toyota motorhome owners over many years. People who have actually recorded their results instead of just guessing like you seem to be doing. Linda S
  10. Well there are too many people on this group and others who have measured the difference in heat with OD on or off. Addition of tranny temp guages is pretty common with toyota motorhome owners and many have relayed their results. Much higher heat build up in the tranny with OD on. No I don't think they all made it up. Many are experienced mechanics. I do get better mileage without OD so it has never been an issue for me. Why would I push that button and lose mileage. I am talking about the 4 banger only. The v6 has no known issues as far as I know with OD Linda S
  11. Ya can't exactly press the switch on. When the brake pedal is depressed it releases the button on the end of the switch completely and that closes the circuit and makes the lights go on. You can remove the switch and then press down lights off, release lights on. I just replaced one on a Kia and the lower dash panel needed to come off to get to it. have no idea on a v6 toyota but from the one I posted I can tell they work exactly the same Linda S
  12. If all the other lights work fine it could be the brake light switch near the brake pedal. http://www.jcwhitney.com/1988-1991-toyota-pickup/brake-light-switch/p2024950d2183y1988-1991j1.jcwx Linda S
  13. Hmm. 81 was the last year of the big wrap around windows. Must be a very early 82 and they needed to use up the rest of the big ones. I couldn't find another pic of an 82 with those windows anywhere. The good thing about them is they didn't come with clearance lights so one less thing to fix Linda S
  14. Looks like a nice camper unit. Funny I have never seen the automatic floor shifter like that on anything but an 85 before. That is obviously older. 80, 81? Very nice shape though. make sure you remove those front windows before you try to do anything major with the shell. I don't know if you intend to keep them but the big ones like that are a difficult replacement and any flexing of the shell will break them for sure. If you don't want them please save and sell to someone who does need them. 800 bucks each if you can't make one yourself Linda S
  15. Both of the vehicles here are good Sunraders all around. A Toyota with less than 60,000 miles on it and a Nissan v6. Not for dismantling and couldn't ever sell either. One I am waiting for is pretty nasty but it's an 85 with the axle upgrade and after I clean out the rat craap it will be a good runner. You just got an 18 footer. Aren't you going to use that? Linda S
  16. Good luck in court. You have been through enough and don't need to have to deal with more nasty stuff here so I did some dusting Linda S
  17. You apparently didn't read the whole thread. It's been months and he has tried to work with the mechanic who is also his landlord. As for his not having more comprehensive insurance, because it was in a licensed mechanics shop at the time that shop is responsible for any damage and your own insurance doesn't have to pay you anything. Legal responsibility is the shops. Insurance companies love to back out if they can point the blame on someone else. Linda S
  18. Welcome to the club. Got 2 18ft sunraders in my driveway. Another one on hold not far from me that is pretty trashed and still waiting to hear if the pop top v6 Odyssey I looked at a while back is still available. Odyssey is all fiberglass and pops up to the side like a Vixen. We all need to form a recovery group except I don't want to recover. Linda S
  19. If the head gets pulled I would do the timing chain as long as your in there. remember the chain guides are plastic and it is an interference engine Linda s
  20. Is it leaking right in the front near the front cover? could be front main seal or oil pump Linda S
  21. Kim has already corrected me on the " getting the other guy to pay for your attorney deal". No you probably won't get attorney fees. The amount of money in this suit doesn't really call for civil court and attorney's. I would do the magistrate court at least first. Then if the mechanic wants to appeal he's the one who's going to have to get an attorney. Hopefully your consultation will not be expensive and your attorney can give you more advice on how to procede Linda S
  22. How loud is it. Only thing that would make me buy a Honda is the quiet. Linda
  23. Nope only issue with the 86 is it has left hand thread nuts on the drivers side. Only year they did this but mine is an 86 and I have never had a problem with it. Just never have anyone take your wheel off without telling them or they will likely snap of the lug bolts trying to turn them the wrong way. Definately wil be fuel injected, good thing. Good axle was put on at the factory, not an upgraded one. So now check appliances. They are expensive to replace.fridge, water heater, furnace, holding tanks must not leak. water pump. Your buying a house here so you need to check everything you would in a home Linda
  24. I know you often find very low priced RV's but yes that is low compared to what they go for all across the country. 1993's are rarely less than 10 grand and often sell for as much as 15 grand on ebay Linda S
  25. Well definately go for the newer one with lower miles. 85 Dolphin is more likely to have the axle upgrade and it will probably also be fuel injected instead of carburated. When traveling that means less loss of power at higher altitudes. Some parts for an 83 might be getting harder to find too. Something as simple as a new fuel tank. Impossible to find for an 83 but tons of them available for the 85. Then the main thing to look at is possible damage in the coach from water. Check carefully for soft walls and water stains. Look at center of overhead from the front of the truck to see if it sags in the middle. Linda S
