Cute 17'-18' Sunrader - But No Test Drive Allowed?

The same Sunrader was relisted 19 hours ago. So I suppose it is still for sale. The seller seems a bit angry becaues his Craigslist ad has been flagged. I understand his anger IF he makes some effort to correct a few things. He still has a 5 digit serial # posted which I'm assuming has to be wrong. Should be 8 digit.

Nice looking rig if it's really for sale. I didn't know Sunrader put any "FAKE" duals on their rigs. The seller says they are OEM duallies from 1979. Not so sure about the 700,000 engine life projection. That beats a Cummins diesel @ 400,000 miles.

"20R motor...stock duallys ....runs well...motors have a 700 plus thousand mile expectancy. ..no rear appliance included. .price reflexes NADA value...cash in hand for test drives. This motorhome is no average camper the motor home is made mostly of fiberglass so there is virtually no rust and unlike most metal homes its lite weight so it gets 17 mpg city 20 mpg highway with far less chance of leaking .. it fits in a regular parking spot and appreciating in value every year.. this ad is not a scam ive owned this vehicle for nearly a decade..if craigslist takes this post down again i will not repost so act fast if you want it..thanks for your interest."

Yes, I kind of get the feeling he's a highly intolerant-to-the-public seller and that does not work well when dealing with Ebay or Craigslist "tire kickers." Further, if he is angry and frustrated over some of the chronic Craigslist flaggers - I don't blame him. There is a group of people who seem to have no lives other then reading Craigslist ads and flagging them if THEY don't deem them proper. That being said - I think he should at least answer a few legitimate questions before someone has to drive all the way over there. #1 would be why the serial # is so wrong? At first I was wondering if he might be reading a coach (Sunrader) serial #, but no way would it be that high. Sunrader was only making 1000 - 2000 units a year as I recall.

I would not hesitate to go there with cash-in-my-pocket IF the price was $2500 and I wanted another truck/RV with no power-steering, and I don't. Maybe I'm getting old, but power-steering in a truck is something I really like. "Armstrong" steering not-so-much anymore.

The old Vin numbers on that year range won't do anyone any good anyway. About all you can do with them is use them to see if the vehicle is listed on any of the stolen vehicle web sites. They don't meet the current standard on the VIN site as they don't have enough digits to validate the entry fields.

Is it possible to have a 5 digit VIN number on an older vehicle? Yes it is.

Digits 1: Engine Digits 2: Model year Digits 3: Assembly plant Digits 4: Series & Body style Digits 5-10: Production number

One way around the test drive is to ask to have it inspected at a local garage and go along for the test. Since you are the person paying for the test they will let you go along on it. Of course you will be out of pocket if you don't buy it but at least you will know if it is a dud or worth buying.

I've yet to see anything then an 8 digit VIN on any 70s Toyota truck. If the seller wanted to clear up the issue - all he needs to do is post an image of the part of the title showing the VIN. If the state accepted it and put it on the title, then it is valid. If you give them a VIN number their computer does not like, no title is issued until it gets researched by them. At least in NY and MI.
