  1. Oh yeah! Us toy owners should follow their beer slogan! ;-)
  2. Wow! Great work there! The impossible project is possible, most would have sent her to the scapyard.
  3. Good one! Must have been a former owner, medical student from Haborview! ;-)
  4. Good luck Paul! I have to move up soon here myself but I decided I can live with 2 motorhomes. I'll stick the larger RV at a storge facility and keep the toy in the driveway. I need my dog house when the wife gets sick of me in the house, especially during football season.
  5. Happened to me at around 1600 PST for about 15 minutes. Other sessions to other sites working just fine, only when accessing the forum URL. http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?act=idx Redirect Loop Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. 6. Well I can tell you that the google ads here scan your cache and be for certain kiddy-script code gets installed onto your browser. Often I get google ads that have invalid security certificates. Those have been hacked. I been running a "no ad" forum for years and not one complaint about being hacked. I do think the root here is google ads.
  7. Holy smoke! At first I thought this was a transplant but given the paint and stripes, matching cab fabric it looks original. Who knows but with a 6 probably does pretty good. Let us know what you find out about it.
  8. Slang for Mitsubishi? ;-) The seller is probably making a guess.
  9. Whoa! That is one beautiful Dolphin, 16ft? Looks like dually too! Thanks for the tips on the Navajo Nat'l. Mon, you can't beat beautiful views and free camping!
  10. An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure. I've been saying we should have a sticky here with a list of things to be checked or replaced outright when getting a used toy. Nothing like seeing a someone having to do an engine rebuild because of a 30 year old water pump going bad. I've seen plenty of shocking examples here that gave me a "kick-in-the-butt" to get my toy up to snuff.
  11. We see them all the time out here on the west coast. Here are couple from the summer travels: I-90 Snoqualmie pass rest stop - Love the matching canopy. Carl Sagan's Burning Man gathering in the Ochoco mountains of Oregon - May the Force be with you! Show us your encounters.
  12. In Washington State you don't have to have a pass if you have a reservation to camp. Guess the governor gets the idea of putting an excise tax on all recreational vehicles probably for that reason. What I don't get is they also want to put a big tax on bottled water. Next thing thay will taxing our bodies for the amount of water we're carrying. ;-)
  13. I've been complaining for years about Washington State's way of funding parks by making folks pay a yearly $30 pass or daily $10 pass. My bet has always been that out-of-state folks would quit touring the state and the parks would still come up short on funds. Well I guess they are thinking. For all you Toy owners in Washington see this one and hold on to your wallet. ;-)
  14. Good to hear! In my case I hit the red line at idle after a long hauls on the freeway. I've had everything replaced, thermostat, radiator, water pump. Yeah still saw the temp climb. Well, gave the fan clutch a spin and seemed to spin freely with no tension. I replaced it and wala! At freeway speeds I can now hear the fan clutch kick in. Never heard it before, music to the ears. No more rising needle. I imagine most toys have the original 30 year old fan clutch. Definately a must do!
  15. Tried to bring a vehicle over from Japan years back. I was told Japan doesn't use safety glass like we do here in the states. Not sure if that applies today but I'm sure it come down to regulations.
  16. I guess the 2-door models do exist in some toys. Here is one for sale that probably has the same model.
  17. You can also jump/charge from the isolator if needed. Mine is under the hood 1ft from the truck battery.
  18. Yes the Sunraders are good because of the 1 piece construction and the leak protection that the others don't have. You might want to stay away from the wood framed Dolphins which a lot of them have the rear dinette. Not saying that Dolphins are bad but at some point water will make it's way inside and the warping will start. Often this is hidden and very hard to detect when buying one. There are some aluminium framed winnies and other coaches that won't have the Dolphin issue but you may have to contend with dry-rot walls at some point. Also note these motorhomes are approaching the 30 year mark and some near 40. Be prepared to spend a couple of thousand to bring them up to snuff, no matter what you buy. Then keep a thousand stashed for the next year for any upcoming issues, and a thousand for the next and so on. Lastly, 3 is a company, 4 is a crowd, 5? ;-) Your gonna have a lot of weight to carry and it will be a tad crowded with that many people. You may want to pick up one of these:
  19. Very nice layout in the back! A carfax check for the headgasket change and the regular maintenance checks, if checks out OK that may = a great deal!
  20. I would have doubts about that theory for an engine with 54k on it but who knows. Always good to do a valve adjustment on these guys so you can always peek and make sure the plastic guides are in place.
  21. What were the other causes for the timing chain to jump? Assume for the low miles the head and cylinder block are in great shape. Keeping the original engine sounds like the best plan, swapping for another engine would be like rolling the dice at a crap table.
  22. I always think of getting a bigger motor home but if I do I will still keep the toy for the short trips. I think of the places that I've stop with the toy that I probably could not do with a trailer or anything bigger. Thrift shops, local restaurants and such, mind you these are all local things we like to do. Lunch on the fly. My kids get tired of being strapped in so they hop in back and pull out the DVD player grab a soda from the refer and have fun. And for talking local if the camp sites are full we find the nearest Wall mart and then hit the local spots the next day. You can't leave your trailer at Wall mart while you hit the shops. Get the trailer and keep the toy!
  23. Bringing back an old thread from the dead for good review... I did my first valve adjustment today and like the others was not hard at all. Yeah getting the vacum hoses out of the way was the hardest. My exhaust valves were tight, all of them. One thing to check while its open, (22RE), check the plastic guides on the timing chain to make sure the tabs are there. Especially on the right side where the chain tensioner is. Hard to see in this picture but this where to look. After adjustment took it for a spin. Noticed much better idling at idle, hmmm to say it in other words, being stopped the idle was much smoother. As others here proclaimed in this thread, a must do. Note: Though the 88 service manual doesn't mention it in the regular maintenance section, in the cylinder head removal section they mention applying seal packing to the half circluar plugs (half moon gaskets). I installed mine dry so we'll monitor and see.
  24. For a cheater bar I use the table pipe from the coach. That'll break anything.
