  1. I had one of those, but mounted on a 1984 Nissan (two wheel drive)...loved it! consistently got 22+ mpg. had to reinforce the rear corners with angle aluminum..did the same for the bottoms of the exterior walls which were starting to come apart. a handy place to sleep, eat, bathroom, cook, wash...wish I'd never sold it! I sold it about 4 yrs ago for $1800. had already removed the fridge. had about 130,000 miles...just getting broke in! a guy drove to my house in Lancaster, ca from Las Vegas to beat out the other bidders on CL! I had replaced the flywheel and rear wheel bearings. it had smog numbers like a new car!
  2. thanks for all the informed commentary...I learned a lot!
  3. we've the got the 1987 Seabreeze with EFI and auto trans. we consistently get 13 mpg. engine has 40,000 original miles. always maintained in top shape. sometimes we get up to 60-65 mph but mostly near 55.
  4. http://drivetheamericas.com/forums/sold-toyota-hiace-cruising-cabin-sale found this browsing around...nice website and interesting Toy camper.
  5. put it on top or in one of the outside boxes...
  6. Our 87 Seabreeze had been sitting for a few months..I had the coach batteries charging the whole time, but when I went to start he engine Tues nght for a quick trip out to the desert to watch the moonrise, the truck battery was at 5 volts! I jumped it from my other car and figured it would charge up on the trip out (20 mi)...after watching the moonrise and drinking a few beers it was time to go home...batt at 12.0...engine would not start! thankfully I remembered to bring my 20' jumper cable. We have a bank of 2 12V deep cycle batteries situated in the cupboard underneath one of the dinette seats next to the fridge, so ran the cable out the pass window and up to the battery...it started right up!
  7. well I figure we could stop and get a new bag of ice when we run out. Our propane refrig makes ice overnight. maybe dry ice would work? I know it's not the commercially made swamp cooler, but as the ice melts and air blows over it, it evaporates, adding humidity to the air as well as lowering the temp.
  8. we spend some summer days in hot dry areas. This looks like a fun way to stay cool. http://truththeory.com/2014/04/26/chill-out-this-summer-with-a-homemade-air-conditioner/
  9. I just went through this issue with my 87 Seabreeze. turned out it was the igniter board..whatever that is. cost $150 or thereabouts for the experts at the Motorhome Repair place to get to the bottom of the problem. good luck!
  10. Linda..when the alternator is charging at a higher rate, it puts more of a drag on the engine, reducing fuel mileage.
  11. I always charge up the batteries at home via shore power before we leave so alt is not working extra on our trip out. We use the lights and water pump and heater and then the next day I hook up the solar panel and recharge the batt...the return trip (if we leave early in the morning) would put an extra load on the alt.
  12. hot water.. a must furnace.. a must toilet, shower, sink, tanks...must awning.. a must cab air and heat.. a must overdrive bypass cancel switch... a must now needing to up grade overcab mattress...been sleeping on stock surface, but these old bones will appreciate something a little softer. we do most of our camping in the high desert so AC not so nec. Now that we have the battery bank we will experiment with different evaporative cooling strategies...last summer we just parked under a tree next to a creek..but it was still HOT!
  13. stamar..We added the second coach batt for the same reason..only to have the furnace continue to refuse to relight..we replaced the igniter board and now furnace works great...with 2 batts. would work with one? I don't know. good luck to you.
