  1. I found this site looking for info on a 1978 Toyota minimax that was given to us by a good friend. I had by then had 5 Toyotas, but never a RV. no one in my family ever had a camper of any kind. so I was in the know on the chassis. I was totally clueless about the aspects of the RV part. and did not know about the axle problem.later on I bought a 87 dolphin my seventh Toyota my first automatic trans. I have very much enjoyed this group and site . I learned a great deal about all the aspects of the motorhomes. I have no desire or need for a larger unit. I know I have been able to help some who had never owened a Toyota. thanks for putting up with my spelling.many thanks to Greg for having this site and too Linda for being a faithful moderater. I don't get involved in political or religious disputes. I have my own religion.
  2. swamp coolers are very common in the very low humidity of eastern Washington state. I think in the south west u s also. that home built 12 volt is very neat . there is a factury built unit made to fit in the 14 inch vent . but they are not cheap.
  3. that's the answer quit trying to make it new its 30 years old. I could not agree more . enjoy myn go camping . I don't have the money or a shop to make it new anyway. joking ly told my son maybe I should paint it the glass with latex house paint. he said if you do I am never going camping with you again. we could tie a matress and more tires on  pretend it is 1936 again .my mother would lafe about . you got moved are you all retired now enjoy the new place.

the way the money has been and housing crash maybe it is 1936 again

  4. no L P detector in my late 1987 Dolphon. on a side note I hear the brand new campers are not using copper for the gas tubing. if true I would think LP leak detection even mor e needed.
  5. your sea breeze and my dolphin where made in paris calif by national r v . I have the org books 1987 no decters of any kind listed . I installed a 20 dollor walmart co detecter and a smoke alarm. still have org factury fire ext. but installed 2 more.

  6. for us took a microwave twice. never took it again. we just went through everthing and weeded out stuff we did not need . we use one cast iron skillet and thrift store revere ware pots and pans.
  7. nothing like a dirty cruded ground. have you seen any flickering lights before . can be a simtem of a bad ground.
  8. where is your sense of adventure . I like that. I have been involinterly inlightened a few times over the years.
  9. sounds like a good chance the trane will need a rebuild. but if price is low enough one can except somethings .
  10. that switch in the picture is what was in my corona wagon 1977. but I had a 78 pickup and motor home set up just like LOGANS.and every once in a while the turn singnals on the ones like his will fail to operate. pumping the four way flasher knob on and off fixes that . seems some thing gets cruded in the contacts.
  11. a breaker on the headlights is something I have not seen on a Toyota or a datson. yes on American cars . my 74 DATSEN b210 had one fuse for both headlights not a good safe set up . old time V W and Toyotas 2 fuses right and left on 2 different circuits. then you still have one side.i will check in my older books on Toyotas. JD is correct the fuse link powers the headlights . I had forgotten that and on some 70s Toyotas the second side of the link powers the heater blower .
  12. you cant see the weld puddle do you have cataracts . I did had them removed 3 years ago. could no longer see  a screw head .63 now worn trifocals since 46 still wearing them. have used welding helmet cheater lens before. see to weld now pretty good since eye surgey but hand not so steady.

Last eye exam they did not say anything about cataracts?  Plus I do not have enough use for a welder to buy one and no extra room for it..      Thanks Jim

I see I totally understand all that no room here eather

  13. I don't know if national supported the spare which much of anything. I decided to get it off there as my dolphin had a reinforced reciver tube too bumper tube . I put my spare on a u bolt mount modified trailer mount. and I have a steel platform carrier I bought from harbor frt . rated for 300 pounds.
  14. I think 6000 is too much . more like 3000 . or less
  15. well for my 2 cents as long as it works on gas that is good enough for me. cant leave it pluged in at home anyway. and at full hookup I run it on gas that way if they have a power problem and I once had that happen. I switched it to gas ever since I just run it that way ,
  16. I have and will buy the nexen sv820 and out here in the west it was I think rebranded the thunderer road ranger and sold in the 450 stores of Les SHUAB. one thing if the west biggest tire outfit or any good outfit anywhere has much trouble with a tire or a company they dump them. they don't want it . don't know if firestone ever learned that.
  17. well I see you sold it 2 a good home . at least that is a plus  and someone you know  will take care of it .

  18. as I just did a 7 day off grid camping trip I could not agree more a propane refrigerator is costly to buy but you will never regret it . used to tent never missed ice chest. only way to go .can free..ze food make ice cubes .
  19. on another note you cant belive what some people will do . talk about gross out . we where at a dump station a few years ago. when 2 men walked by one of them picked up the flusher hose that was there and took a drink from it looked at us and then left . we were floored . still cant belive that one .
  20. I just came back from a 7 day remote camping trip . I fill my tank with chlorinated city water . thus after bleach treating at the start of the season and flushing ,I would never know the difference. I also took 20 gallons more water in 4 5 gallon drinking water tanks. with which I twice refilled my tank with a plastic funnel and a 1 gallon bailer.
  21. seen 3 of those clunks rotting away in my town.but now on a Toyota 4wd it would likely run . and be dependable
  22. in the early 1970s bernzomatic sold a propane lantern that came with a red 14 oz refillable cylinder I still have it and a brass refiller . the difference in the one i have is the little bleed screw. instead of a tire valve type it is a like a 3/8 nut must be open and close with a wrench when liquid comes out. and the label says refillable. other then that I never could see any difference.
  23. don't have to be just dogs either . at that camp I was at one of those drunks had a mule and a horse that he was letting run wild thru everybody elses place . I collared him on that yelled at me after I said are those yours tie them up. I never knew of any kind of real stockman who let his animals run loose all over the place. this was the same bunch. maybe atvs would have been helpful a little DUI arrest would be ok with me .
  24. i was at a dry camp boon docking 99.9 of our camping .is what we do . i see of all things a cargo trailer come in behind a truck with a chest freezer setting on it . which they run on a generater the whole time . bring horses which they never ride . and stay loud and drunk the whole time a med group . thankfully they were a ways down from us.
