  1. Thanks for reminding me about that foam based camper. I was trying to tell someone about it the other day and I couldn't for the life of me remember where I saw it. Functions just like the very expensive XP camper but super nice home job. Bet it's super light too Linda S
  2. Funny I don't remember saying anything about farm equipment but hey I'm old. I do think it's strange that all the big overland vehicles on Expedition Portal are all diesel. Unimogs, Earthroamers, Earth Cruisers, Tiger Siberian's. all made for hitting the farthest off road you can get and all diesel. Guess they just have big gas tanks and plan ahead Linda S
  3. Find a rear dinette model. Large rear windows will give you some more visibility and the fresnel lense Karin mentioned magnifies whats behind you. If your shopping for a toy home test driving is a must. Just go inspect everyone near you and at least drive it a ways. Linda S
  4. I'm a moderator and I say give us what you got. I know a few who have figured out how to make them and none of them have offered to do it for others. I'm all for resourses that can help people maintain and save these wonderful little motorhomes Linda S
  5. Well after all your work I would be worried that such an unconventional exterior might make it very hard so sell should you ever want to. No way working from the outside are you ever going to get the smooth look of a shell made in a mold like the Sunrader. Rv siding and roofing can be bought and give you what would look like a much newer motorhome. http://www.all-rite.com/siding-c-30.html?osCsid=15aa4c989ead43aa1b5b7131d433a475 Linda S
  6. Found one of those 1982 Crew cabs on Ebay.Pretty nice one too http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1982-Toyota-Hilux-Pickup-4X4-Double-Cab-Diesel-Manual-Transmission-RHD-/221240203370?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3382f1986a Linda S It is an import though. Right hand drive
  7. Well I think 4wd is logical cause if your doing all that work you want the end result to be worth as much as possible. Runfromturtles is also in oregon and 4x4 just is more usable to get to the best places. I would go with any full sized diesel. Great power, good mileage and can handle the load of the camper with ease. I can't wait to see what comes of this project. Linda S
  8. I have very cheap insurance here in Cal on my Rv's. I own 3. rates per year are 130 for the Nissan Sunrader liability only, 180 for the Toyota Sunrader liability and collision covered for $6200 the purchase price.. and 238 for the Tiger Provan which is a 1993 so 7 years newer than the others. I think that's pretty darn cheap. I go to them every couple of years and show recent sales so my collision coverage hasn't gone down even though I bought the Toyota Sunrader 9 years ago Linda S
  9. I'm right about what.I didn't comment on this yet but now I think the pages are too short. I lost the subject line on one thread and didn't realize they were still kind of on topic before I scolded them. I don't have an Ipad just a very old lap top and it's harder for me to go from page to page than just scroll down. Oh well no biggie I can deal with it Linda S
  10. The toyota-campers group has a list of mechanics on their database. it is not a lot but some is better than nothing http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/toyota-campers/database?method=reportRows&tbl=13 Linda S
  11. He's got some stories, that's for sure. She sent pics on the spot to a guy here in Cal who has restored many Sunraders and he told her not to buy it If you can't do the repairs yourself it doesn't take much to make it a very expensive project. If she drove 4 or more hours to purchase this and he refused to sell, I'm sure she would have told me. Linda S
  12. This place has made windows for a Mirage before just in case someone doesn't want to try it themselves. It's been a few years though and don't know if they saved any molds from them http://toddscanopies.com/ Linda S
  13. One of the members of the toyota-campers group inspected this one. Inside was nasty. Mold, ceiling falling down and shower pan seriously cracked. Does look like the gray tank is drooping in JD's pics so might be quite a bit of damage under there. She passed for that reason and yes she said he was grumpy too. Linda S
  14. For a propane tank that's pretty new. How's it look Wish I was closer cause I could use it. Linda S
  15. Toyota apparently did make some early trucks with 4 doors and crew cab. Galvanized Knight is currently looking for one for his next project. I have seen only one ever and it was pretty much junk sitting in a field. Linda S Just did some looking around and the earliest one I could find is 1982 for the full crew cab.
  16. So no big danger from fumes? Also the problem of finding an oven big enough. One of the guys on my site used the ovens from a powder coater in the complex where he works to make his Mirage windows. I don't think I would want it my kitchen. Linda S
  17. I give. Greg split up the threads more and I forgot that subject came up. Linda S
  18. Off topic. Please don't distract from the very serious original issue. If you want to discuss this start a new thread. Linda S
  19. I too agree that the damage is far beyond what any quick fix would take care of. You say your a noobie but by the time your done with this feel free to upgrade your experience level to expert. Hope it comes out OK for you. I really like these rear door models too and love it when people save them. Linda S
  20. I think this ad is off somehomw. This was advertized a while ago all over the bay area for $25,000. Had a phone number for it then and was a marin county number. Now it says it's in southern Cal with no phone number. No way soneone bought it and is now selling it for less. Buyer beware Linda S
  21. So are you talking about the standard 14 inch vent? Just measured mmine and yup 13 1/4 is inside measurement. Look on ebay. Tons available and plenty of covers but different makes have different hinges. If they are original to 1986 they should just be replaced. Not expensive on ebay. Your looking for a 14 inch roof vent Linda S
  22. Yes thank you. I figure if it's good enough for "This Old House" it's good enough for me. I do know that if you remove the compression made floor from the compression fitted shell you have a crazy big job on your hands ever getting a solid structure again. We don't all have a complete factory to work with and my floor is just fine. Linda S Oh and my surface was so hard I went through lots of screws trying to get them into the surface while trying to put my overlay down. Had to go back and buy stronger ones
  23. Better to remove the cabinets and reinforce the floor. I used resin and hardiner on the rotted parts of mine. Drilled small holes so it could penetrate the wood better and covered the floor with it. After it hardened I screwed down 1/4 inch luan but Would have been better using little bit thicker. Added some more support underneath with light weight c channel across the bottom attached to heavier framing there. Building an all new floor and reattaching it to the fiberglass shell is beyond the ability of most and certainly me. originally done under pressure in a big factory Linda S
  24. You have the pictures and there is no way you would lose in small claims court if it came to that. He might not pay right away but you can put a lien on his home or car or business after you have the small claims judgement. Linda S
  25. Well he save his garage didn't he. No way it was on the street from the start. I'm just pissed on your behalf Linda
