Looking for carburetor mechanic near San Francisco
extech replied to 78SR's topic in General Discussion
how far from sf -
to bad the po didnt use the drain hole in the box (washing the batteries). by the look of things you need new cables also. those type batteries gas off alot, so rinsing them off every month is needed

battery no load voltage is not an indicator of battery condition. 7 years on a battery is really good, but i think you are at the end of life.

the computer makes adjustments based on the timing being set with the idle switch closed. if the timing marks are moving around, the computer is attempting to get the timing where it needs to be. grab the throttle and turn it towards closed. you should see the marks stop moving. usually the adjustment is off because of build up around the throttle plate. it needs to be cleaned.

i have run into flex brake line failing where fluid can go to the brakes, but is blocked from returning. would account for no power. ive also run into master cylinders incorrectly adjusted where the piston is held from returning completely by the pushrod from the pedal. one more... ive found brake system contaminated by someone adding engine oil to the brake resivoir. all the seals in the system will swell up locking up everything

the rear axle is good. full floater. a/c needs to be powered by ac- plug in the shore power lead. the leaks look pretty normal. looks like a newer version of my 84 dolphin

so now im confused. this is from the book provided to me to teach techs how to deal with computer systems. my dolphin(84) uses the little box on the right fender. tccs. the book says all toyotas were tccs by 86, and they all used the same way to check timing. guess they got bad info from toyota. more likely it was typos

jumper from te to e1 in box by fuses. if you check with a timing light and the marks are moving around, the throttle switch is not closed. very common problem, and codes wont flash. grab the throttle and twist it towards closing. if the timing marks stop moving you found the problem. now with the engine off, key on do the same to the throttle and your codes should blink. also now you can adjust the idle switch

the isolator is the key to charging your house bat. should not charge house unless chassis bat is up. maybe bad, maybe connected incorrectly
