Maineah
Weight should not be a factor probably 80# for the pair or less some one on the site has made a frame out of PVC I believe just for kayaks try a search.
waiter
Didn't WME build a special roof rack for his kayaks? JOhn Mc 88 Dolphin 4 Auto

waiter
I found it. I knew I seen it, just couldn't remember who did it. :-)It was Dennis (Bufbooth)http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3699 Someone else had one on the roof, but then started towing a small trailer. Totem
I made a kayak carrier out of a regular towing hitch cargo carrier also don't forget; it monopolizes the negative air space behind the rig and gets way better mpg and less resistance, plus no need to go on the roof, just up the ladder a bit to secure. I actually think having them in the rear shadow of the vehicle improved the mpg without risking another mpg war debate... i think i posted a couple picks of it somewhere
acudoc
I used a long wall mount for a closet so I can slide the rails where I wan them. Used Yakima cross bars. I should have gotten the longest they made. Important part for me is the inside plate. Hidden in cabinet but the roof would have to come off for the rack to come off. The clips mentioned would also work. They can be mounted on the side or the top. Henry
