BunnyJ
Hi. I've looked for and seen a few posts that touch on this topic, but have not found a real answer, so I am posting here. New to this forum - apologies if the answer is here and I missed it. I would like to purchase a Toyota Odyssey motor home and register it in my home state of PA. The vehicle is currently titled elsewhere. In order to get it titled/registered in PA, I must provide a PA MV-41 form signed by a PA inspection mechanic that verifies both the vehicle's GVWR AND the vehicle's unladen weight. There is a sticker inside the driver's door of the cab indicating that the vehicle was manufactured by Leisure Odyssey, Inc., and this sticker contains the GVWR (5500lbs). Nowhere does this sticker (or anywhere else I can find) state the vehicle's unladen weight. (The sticker also states the GAWRs for the front and rear axles, but those are irrelevant for purposes of this post). My fear is that without the unladen weight posted, a PA mechanic will require that the vehicle go to a weigh station in order to determine its unladen weight, and that even if I get it on a scale with all tanks empty and almost no fuel, that the unladen weight will exceed the GVWR. (The camper portion was previously demolished and completely rebuilt, and my guess is that its unladen weight is greater than what the unladen weight was when it rolled off the Odyssey manufacturing line.) Does anyone have experience with PA and this form? What happens if the unladen weight were to exceed the GVWR? Do you think this situation will prevent me from being able to register this vehicle in PA? Thank you in advance for your help here. fred heath
I would get it weighed BEFORE purchase. If the remodeling causes the vehicles (even empty) GVWR to exceed the Manufacturers rating, your state could refuse to title it. Better to find out first……
BunnyJ
Just want to close the loop on this topic, for the benefit of anyone who might come across this issue. The portion of the PA title application (MV-41) that requires the vehicle's unladen weight is NOT in one of the sections of the form that requires a licensed mechanic's signature. Whatever unladen weight is written onto the form will appear on the title. (Obviously the unladen weight should be less than the GVWR.) IdahoDoug
So, to close the loop on this topic would be to share what everyone's wondering. How much is the unladen weight, and did you buy it and successfully get it titled?
