Sheridan
I have had my 1989 Toyota Dolphin for two years now and I'm learning something new every time I use it. There is a red toggle switch on the far left side of the dash very close to the steering wheel, and I don't know what it is for or does. If anyone has any information about this switch, I would be truly grateful. Thank you.
Derek up North
I do not think Toyota used toggle switches.. Must be an add-on for an accessory. Kill switch or Alarm system or Fog lights would be my first guess. You will probably have to chase the wires to figure it out.
Sheridan
Thank you for your reply Derek up North. I was wrong it's not a toggle switch it's a red rocker switch. Any ideas?
Derek up North
Does it look like a factory switch? Post a photo.
Maineah
Ejection switch? People can be very creative with wiring.
Sheridan
Here's a picture of the dash with the red switch. Thank you for your help.
Derek up North
Doesn't look original, though a neat install. Could be (or have been) for any add-on a previous owner thought a good idea. Since it's out in the open, probably not an alarm or cut-off switch. Fog lights?
Squirrel
Have you got a functioning isolator? Maybe it stops your house battery from pulling off the alternator?
Derek up North
Another possibility:- electric engine fan? I assume you've checked to see if anything 'happens' anywhere when you toggle it? Does it light up? Can you see up under the dash in the area the switch is located?

What if it is the self destruct switch? Seriously though, its likely a set of extra lights or something like that. Some folks do non road legal light bars this way. linda s
It's the Flux Capacitor for sure. All the power and mileage issues solved with one little red switch. Linda S

Maineah
Some have used it for the optional flux capacitor usually with a lock out cap though.
