  1. Particleboard is a bad choice. Not only is it extremely heavy, but if it becomes wet it swells causing the laminate to bulge. Particleboard is soft. A quality piece of 5/8 or 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood will work much better. Particleboard and MDF are rarely used today for cabinet work.
  2. If you still have your old countertops make a cardboard template from them, then transfer to your new material.
  3. Same chassis as mine.1978 but body wasn't installed until 1979. If you have the 20R engine that would match with the year.
  4. You could always revert to 4/80 air conditioning. Open 4 windows and go 80 mph. Just had to throw that in. Humor is sometimes lacking in many posts.
  5. Supposed to be? Your noise sounds like the wear indicators are rubbing against the rotors. This is to warn you it's time to change your pads. If your not sure of your brakes, pull the wheels and check them. Your brakes are nothing to take chances with.
  6. I'm the 3rd owner. Have all the original paperwork from 1st owner.
  7. I-10, I-20, and I-25 (NM) are major drug transport corridors. Any vehicle meeting profile parameters will be stopped. I.e. Older vehicle, large storage capacity, appearance of being overloaded etc. (sound familiar?) As long as you have no "souvenirs" you may be hassled, but not detained for long.
  8. Try resetting your computer. It could be a stored recurring code that's making the light go on/off. Check to see what code is coming up. This will probably head you in the right direction.
  9. Dwhyte, If your headlights work from the battery, your grounds are probably fine. It sounds like its probably in your fuseable link, or the line running from it to the two HL fuses. You could also have a bad headlight relay. My suggestion is to buy the Haynes manual for your year chassis. I prefer Haynes over Chilton as it gives you the wiring diagrams in the back. Chiltons doesn't. It makes trouble shooting electric issues much easier. Good luck. Fred
  10. Looking at the amount of rust and particularly the rust hole in the frame rail I'm not sure you have enough "meat" to take a weld on the cracks. I would take it to a good weld shop and get their opinion on the best fix. Don't be surprised if major frame surgery is recommended.
  11. Having read your post under "Appliance Tech" I've come to the conclusion the "souvenir" you referenced is the illegal kind. Most interstates have a posted minimum of 45mph. If driving less than this you would stay in the far right lane with your 4 way flashers on. This makes you perfectly legal. I suspect when you were pulled over there was an unusual and easily identified odor coming from your vehicle. This would give the police the "probable cause" to search you. Normally on a motor vehicle stop you would need to obtain consent to search without a warrant. The exception being the above mentioned odor. I suspect the police probably observed you passing by and used your speed as a reason for the stop.
  12. Headlights: First check that you have voltage passing through the fuse. (sometimes the fuse can be bad even if it looks good). On my toy the power to the headlights comes from the battery (hot all the time). Next, as 5Toyota mentioned check the fusible link under the hood. You should have two of them. One for the fuse panel and one for the headlights. The headlight will probably be the smaller of the two wires. Finally, check your ground wire for the headlights. A bad ground will cause them not to work.
  13. Karin is right about that. I chose pine because I planned to finish it with clear urethane. The panels themselves are clear and knot free. You may see some difference in finish where the grain changes direction. You would want to pretreat the cut edges. They will come in darker than the surface. (if you choose to stain)
  14. Unable to post from my phone, and no access to a laptop. If you pm me your phone # I'll try an SMS to you. Fred.
  15. They make a stain grade pine slab of those dimensions. I got mine at Loews. They come in different widths and lengths. I fabricated all my interior and cabinets from this. Makes a much nicer appearance than plywood. I used 3 coats of gloss urethane for the finish.
  16. JD, I could do that but what I'm really looking for is a way to upload from my phone.Skydive is a windows hosting site. I've uploaded pictures into it. Just can't figure how to get them from there onto my toy page. Maybe Greg has some ideas. Thanks, Fred.
  17. Some sinks have a shutoff above the trap. Check there first. If no shutoff, you have some type of blockage in the line between the trap and the tank. As my toy is an older model (my sink drained to the outside via a garden hose) I can't advise you the best route to take. Other members will probably chime in with some good advice. Fred Additional thought, When you took the trap off, was there water inside the (u shaped pipe?). If not, the blockage is somewhere in the sink drain itself.
  18. Bob,My battery also sits in an enclosed area. When I mentioned "slight modification" would include drilling appropriate diameter vent hole in the bottom of the box as well as a hole in the lid to accommodate the vent hose. As far as "dangerous" goes, you can't help but wonder how people drove those VW beetles from the 60's and 70's with the battery secured (unventilated) directly under the rear passenger seat. Most compartments are far from "air tight". You have natural air infiltration around wire access holes, the drain hole in the bottom of the box etc.
  19. The Dana 8 lug from an 80's GM is the exact o/s to o/s (tire to tire) as the 5 lug dually Toyota. The spring perch would have to be flipped and rear driveshaft modified. GM made 15" 8 lug rims but you got to search for them. The final drive ratio is the same 4:10. I was going to do this modification if and when my current axle fails. This gives you two tires only on the rear. With a 1 ton rated axle.
  20. I have an at&t windows phone. I can add pictures to "skydive" but not sure how to attach them to my post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred.
  21. My unit is an original 1978. It blows plenty cold. I too checked into a recharge. I was told the system was a sealed unit and could not be recharged. As JD said, it would be cheaper to replace the whole unit. Here in NC it stays around 95 degrees with high humidity. Don't know what I'd do without it.
  22. Looked at that first. Made the ride height too tall. Shackle extensions or air bags are your only two options. The extensions are more durable, but don't allow customizing your ride height. I have no toilet or shower in my toy. Extensions work well for me.
  23. The axle is factory mounted above the springs. The axle housing rests and is secured to the top leaf. It's a weird setup.
  24. WalMart sells marine battery boxes in two different sizes. They come with the cover. You may have to do some slight modifications to accommodate your particular setup. Might be easier than trying to find a factory replacement.
