  1. Hello everyone, not really sure where to start haha. The drivers side rear frame extension is cracked at the weld and has multiple rust issues. Toyotas frame is fine, just the rear add on section. I discovered this by standing on the bumper to see the roof. (Felt the bumper drop about 2 inches.) When I bought it I knew about the rust and planned on patching, but now I am thinking on replacing the entire rear extension on both sides. While I am under there I am planning on beefing it up so I can tow a trailer (With brakes) without worrying. I have a few questions. Has anyone ever dealt with something like this? Did you Repair vs Replace? Chinook owners, How difficult is it to remove the camper body?? I am thinking to get a good weld the body has to come off. I'd hate to have another Toyota up in flames on this forum. While the Chinook body is off I would paint the frame with some Good Por-15 or something.
  2. The rear section of my frame at the weld has broke.
  3. Thank you, MontanaChinook! Do you know how many of these Newport/Omegas were built? I am very much looking forward to traveling in this sweet machine.
  4. Thanks a million Jdemaris!! This is exactly what i was looking for. I will order the new diodes in the next few days and i will let you know!
  5. Hello, I have a 1978 Chinook. Inside there is a Central Power Pack ES-15 converter and battery charger combo. The charging circuit is only putting out about nine volts? I have limited knowledge on converters. I do know that all the wires are firmly were they should be. Where should i start looking? Are there any mechanical linkages in these older chargers? i was just wondering if anyone else have one of these Central Power Pack systems and might now a little about them.
  6. About 6 years ago my first venture into the an Rv was a 1972 VW Westfalia Pop top in Sierra Yellow, with a sink and a bed.. The bus was in ok shape on the inside when I got it but it was minus the motor. I ended up trading a Tomos Moped for a rebuilt motor. it was a 1600 Single port, rated at 55 HP. I loved it, but there wasn't enough room or amenities to do any serious traveling. I used it as my daily driver for about a year, and traveled all around Florida. I miss it, but as you say Stamar, they are pretty ridiculous.
  7. Sorry about that 86Rader! Didn't realize I Could change the font size. I am 26, and I just purchased my Dream RV! a 1978 Chinook Newport. I've always wanted a small Rv that was full fiberglass based of the 70's Toyota. A few weeks ago I was driving back from North Carolina in my car and by chance stumbled across this sweet machine. Bought it on the spot and had it delivered the last weekend. I am looking forward to many miles ahead. She needs some work, but I plan on keeping her for a long time.
