  1. Yes the Eu2000i Honda will start the 11000 BTU Power Saver Coleman Unit Mach I for sure and some others with soft start capacitors. Not all roof top AC units so do you research carefully.
  2. How much cooking will you be doing?
  3. V6 but the 4 is also pretty good. Many are happy with the 4, which seems to last much longer, easier and cheaper to work on. V6 is going for much higher $ usually depending on condition. More after market parts for the 4 though e.g. high output alternator
  4. Yep, part of the cruiser control system...aftermarket though
  5. If budget is an issue, find a lightly used Honda Eu2000i...then be done with it. You only paid once...enjoy the benefits for a long time. It's easy to start...just a gentle pull. It runs quieter, parts and service are cheap...plus it holds value well. The Yamaha is also very attractive too.
  6. Hi Steeve, Would you mind snapping a pic under the motor home showing how the frame extension was done and where the spare tire was mounted. Mine is same as your but the spare tire has to be mounted in the back of the bumper, not under? Thanks,
  7. Impressive work. You could hide the inverter under the wheel well (right side). Where are you heading on your adventure?
  8. John MC and others in this thread have inspired me to move forward with this. I am going to install this unit on my 1990 Itasca 21ft. This model has the least depth compared to any other units that I looked. http://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-Electronics-5-000-BTU-Window-Air-Conditioner-LW5012/203127491 Others in consideration is: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frigidaire-5-000-BTU-Window-Air-Conditioner-FFRE0533Q1/205089536 This unit has remote control but it's 3" longer in depth. But it only draws 3.9Amp @120V Once it's in, I may retrofit control with the wall mount unit thermostat. Will post progress as it goes.
  9. Assuming this is the 23ft version; where do you mount your spare tire?
  10. Good idea corbin. Thanks for sharing. Question is how much the roof can withstand the AC on it. I'll snap some picture of the roof sag tonight.
  11. Where are you planning on putting the window AC unit? We have one member in the forum who did it before with very detailed write up. I have the Honda Eu2000i as well and thinking about AC options. I may end up with roof top unit (Coleman Mach 1 Power Saver) but the roof sags a little so I am not sure. There are some options out there but time is a big factor for me
  12. I am on the market for the backup camera for my box truck also. It's badly needed. Let's see what I can come up with
  13. Congrats and welcome to the forum. Yes tires are must. Hankook RA08 seem to be the most popular. Gear oil change may help with shifting. Other than that do not caulk with silicone. For fridge, I went with a dorm fridge (cheap and available everywhere), running off of 12V inverter (Sunforce full sine wave).
  14. Definitely but it needs two hoses and I can't think of a space for the portable AC unit.
  15. Hi Don, I really like the idea. If I tackle this project, I will seal the roof the same way you did as well. Let's me give it some more thought. Thanks for sharing
  16. When I got the 1990 Itasca 321RB, it had the old roof top AC. That winter it leaked, so I removed it and installed a powered roof vent with fan instead. Years gone by, I feel like having the AC again. Here are my concerns: the Coleman Mach 1 PS (power saver) 11k BTU fits the bill as my Honda eu2000i can run it reliably (total cost ~800). Issue is the roof sagged a little bit after bearing the old AC on top of it for over 20 years. I could raise the lips of the roof around the 14"x14" opening so water won't get in but water will be standing around the AC when it rains. Any idea how to mitigate this?
  17. I added U-bolts on the sofa's metal frame to anchor the car seat base to. Other than that just be extra caution. The infant car seat, if use properly does an amazing job protecting the baby. There are no air bags on these so that's actually a good thing. Linda has great suggestion, keep things that can fly away lock securely in cabinets. I'll pay extra attention on this on the next trip
  18. My previous Itasca (319RB) had a space prepared for the Kohler generator with gas line available. I modified that compartment to fit the Onan Microlite 2800. I did not like that generator and used it very little. The exhaust was right on the space of the spare tire and it was noisy and turning the motor home into a massage chair. On my current one, Itasca (321RB), I use a Honda eu2000i and store it in the compartment under the sofa. It fits well there but I have to take it out to use every time. I currently have no AC on the roof but that's another topic. If I go with the rooftop AC, then bumper mount is the only option unless I want to modify that compartment, extend the Honda's exhaust and add cooling fans, with electric start, high temperature shut off SW....
  19. 5Toyota: I did check my spare too...appears to be ok. Did you have your inside a cover?
  20. Walmart installs $12.50/tire incl. lifetime mounting and balancing for any tire. I went with the Hankook 2 months ago but I think this one is fine too.
  21. From various sources...and practically, I set my torque wrench at max (150lbs), clicks and I use the breaker bar (or cheater bar) to tight a little more; this makes me comfortable enough for now. Anything below 100ft-lb is way too low in my opinion as a regular small car often calls for 80ft-lb
  22. My experience at the dealer ship wasn't pleasant at all. Since they did the recall, I had them do the valve clearance adjustment, timing belt, and water pump. After I got the truck back, I found silicone tube in the engine, compressor's belt was loose and an extra "zero" on the mileage recorded for timing belt replacement. Timing is not too hard to check. I would also check compresion, check all the vacumm lines. Try injector clearners...
  23. Nice setup on the compartment. I do not see myself spending about $1k for the box to house the generator that costs the same! I used to have the Onan 2.8 on my previous Warrior. On the Itasca, I carried the Honda Eu2000i in the compartment, and I have to take it outside every time I need to run it. When I get some time, I will make a sliding tray so I can just pull it out, run it, and push it back in...not a very high priority for me but if any of you have done or seen this done, please share. On the pic below, you see the generator storage compartment, my little boy helped pushing the cord in, and the red generator on the lower corner Thanks!
  24. About 2 years ago, I replaced the 1990 Warrior with 1990 Itasca Spirit (2ft longer with a sofa bed) As usual, I went through everything that matters most to us (safety and reliability) Tires were among the top of my list. Going over the service records, I saw that tires were replaced back in 2006 with receipts, visually they looked okay with lots of treads so I quickly moved on to other items. Over the period of two years, we drove the RV within 200miles from home...no problem whatsoever! I often inspected the tires before each trip, I did see some minor cracks but I thought that would be normal for tires after a few years in service. Oh boy...I was seriously wrong! This happed on the way home during our trip to Doran Beach Park (Bodega Bay, Calif.) earlier this month. While driving home, I heard strange noise followed by rubber smell...I thought something burning in the back...turned out it was a blow-out rear tire! (See pic) Pulled off the road to a church parking lot, quickly changed the tire with spare one, and went home. I looked at all the tires again, what I discovered where the previous owner who sold the RV to me possibly swapped the tires he changed with old ones...those tires dated back to 1995 if I read the date code right...treads were full...not much wear at all. Need not to say, 6 Hankook tires were ordered thru Walmart ($92 each - best price around I found) and it offers installation for about $12 a piece. I quickly jumped on it. Tires arrived, called to make appointment...turns out Walmart does not work on Motorhome...bummer! I called a few local tires store, they either wants $40each for installation or don't even want to work on the little motor home at all. So I decided to remove all tires, loaded on my truck and head to Walmart store. After 1 hr and 45 min, the technician told me: "sorry sir, but we can't balance your wheels since we do not have the cone that's big enough for your rim" I was like @#$#%$ okay...went to my fav. tire shop, they couldn't do it either! After hopping thru couple tire places, Wheelworks offered me $14/ea. for lifetime balancing. Moral of the lesson: do not trust service record on tires, and do call these tires places before bringing your RV over to be sure they can balance this type of rim
