  1. Oh, and Turtle, I agree that lack of use has to be a factor. Unfortunately, our Toy has been sitting for months. Thanks, again.
  2. Well, it was something electrical....I think. After checking the battery cables and, honestly, just tinkering and making sure everything was connected, it magically and easily shifted into Drive. I even turned it off and let it sit for another hour, just to see if I was dreaming. Yep, slipped right into Drive, Reverse, and back into Park as if nothing has ever been wrong. It was the darndest thing. That shifter was not going to budge. FYI _ I tried the pumping hard on brake pedal and the vacuum assist method and it did not work for me. As mentioned, it was just something flukey/electrical and we are all good. Thank you all very much for offering help and suggestions.
  3. Hoping to find an easy answer....because I am supposed to leave for a trip tomorrow. My '93 Itasca V6 3.0 will not shift into from park into drive. I have tried a lot of "jiggling" but do not want to break anything. It simply will not budge when I try to shift into drive from park. The engine sounds strong. All electrical is working...just will not let me slide into drive. Any ideas about this? Is there some trick I am not aware of with these Toyota trucks. My fingers are crossed! Thank you!
  4. It was the GFI outlet's reset button But it was in front of the sink in the kitchen, not the bathroom. All 110 outlets are restored! Thank you all for the help in identifying and fixing this problem. Money and headache saved!
  5. John, I have mainly been searching for this mystery "coach disconnect switch" and was thinking breakers and fuses must be fine since the other electrical pieces worked fine. Will check these this morning and....hopefully report back that it works. Thanks for the reply. Jason
  6. I would like to see if you all can help me identify a problem I am having with my 1994 Itasca. When I am plugged in to shore power, everything works except for my 110 volt outlets and none of them work at all. My AC works, my interior lights turn on extra bright, water pump works...but I am getting nothing from the outlets. I was told to look for a "coach disconnect switch" but do not see anything like this. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I talked to Camping World and they want $110 per hour just to ID the problem. Hoping to avoid this cost. Thank you.
  7. Thank you for the feedback. I will take a look at VSTAR and will also give some thought to the "learn to sew" recommendation.
  8. We just acquired a 1994 Itasca. It's great but the upholstery and cushions are really faded and close to having runs or tears in them. Not ratty, gross, throw away...but definitely showing their 20 year age. Question: what do you all recommend for recovering these for people who are not super savvy with a needle and thread? Have any of you ever paid a service to recover the cushions (not talking couch, just the removable ones) and if so, how much does that usually run? I assume it's pricey. We are thinking about getting bed sheets and heavy duty safety pins and coming up with our own method but we also don't want to cut corners so much that we have something that doesn't work. With that said, what about the sofa? If anyone can share their upholstery recovering story or tips, we would appreciate it. Thank you.
  9. Just completed my first road trip in a newly purchased 1994 Itasca. I purchased the RV with 81,000 miles on it in Phoenix from a private seller and drove it to New Orleans over a three day period. Happy to report that I was getting 17 MPG at one point in flat land Texas west of El Paso. My top speed on the trip was probably 65 on a downhill but my average speed was about 50. The only issues I had were the severe winds (50 mph gusts) blowing around Texas. There were several times when the little Itasca (named her The Turtle) was getting tossed around on the highway. I almost pulled over but I would not have felt safe on the shoulder. Also, the big 18-wheelers blowing by at 80+ MPH can be a little intimidating. My takeaway as a new owner so far is try to AVOID major interstates. They are not fun and the rest of the world now drives at 80 MPH, on average. In the future, I hope to find parallel highways and take my time....it's not like I would get there any faster! Here are trip details: Friday: Phoenix to El Paso (432 miles)Left at 8:30am and arrived there at 6pm Made several stops along the way for food, gas and photos. Had to stop at In n Out Burger in Tuscon because it's all the rage. Burger was great. Fries...nothing to write home about. Saturday: El Paso to Austin (577 miles)Left at 7:30am and arrived at 9pm This was a little out of the way but I was so glad to get off Interstate 10 and onto Highway 290. This is a great road that takes you through Fredericksburg, TX and through the Texas wine country. Who knew they had a wine region in Texas? Sunday: Austin to New Orleans (512 miles)Left at 6:45am and arrived at 7pm Nothing interesting to report here, except the big bridge over Lake Charles, LA is impressive and was probably the biggest "climb" I did. If anyone has read this far, is there any real benefit to the ECT button? I am not noticing any difference...but thank goodness for overdrive. Can't wait for the next trip! Cheers.
  10. Would you mind sharing details on this? Are you saying you just use the lap belt to hold the car seat in?
  11. We are about to purchase a 1994 Toyota Itasca and would like to make the camper area as safe as possible for kids. We have seat belts in the driver and passenger seats, lap belts on the couch behind the driver's side and a lap belt on one side of the dinette that faces forward. Does anyone know how easy or difficult it is to add or update seat belts so that shoulder harnesses are present? Can a seat belt be added to the side of the dinette that faces towards the rear, so that a child's car seat can be secured? Is this something that an RV dealership could do? If anyone has any general advice about traveling with small children, we would appreciate it. We look forward to traveling as a small family, but want to be sure we are safe and secure on the highway as so many people tend to drive fast and reckless. Thanks.
