  1. On our 91 Dolphin I drove it home totaly empty from Idahoe with 90 in the airbags and 65 in the really old tires. I did not think there was anything wrong with my shocks, but the shackle bushings were visibly gone. When I took it to Les Schwab for brakes and a lot of work they said the shocks and steering dampener needed to be done also. when I got it back it seemed to ride a little rougher but what a huge difference in sway at freeway speeds and even around town. That remains even with the bags down to 20, the min. I am using 40 in them now all the time, and 47 / 53 in the tires. Higher than recommended, but still rides ok. The only time I put 90 # in the bags now is to work under it. JC
  2. Check the cct breaker on the Onan, it's next to the fuel filter on mine. If not then get a meter and start tracing. Mine was off when we got it and hasn't tripped since I'm using it. JC
  3. I see a lot of the Eternabond on searches. Is this the best bet for roof and roof to wall sealing on a Dolphin. I cannot tear off the fiberglass and remanufacture this RV by myself but the tape looks good. But, does it work? and how long ? TIA JC
  4. Maineah I think they kind a work like a fly back transformer John. I was thinking that when reading this post this morn and my DSL died. The old 12" black & white CRT monitor flyback might just do the trick. JC
  5. Did you try the 4-way flashers? If they work wiring, etc is ok. If not start tracing the hot side wiring from fuse to switch to feed line to socket.
  6. White, are close to what used be called "cool white" tubes. Everyone I have shown them to has commented on the nice color before noting how bright they are. These are 1156 replacements so have a higher lite output than the 1141 bulb replacements on another post. I am also using them as back-up and turn signal lamps for the Toyota. WO WO
  7. I liked these http://www.amazon.com/Amico-BA15S-68-SMD-Brake-Backup/dp/B007VLFENE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366145356&sr=8-1&keywords=Amico+10+Pcs+Car+1156+BA15S+1206+68-SMD+LED so much I got 10 more
  8. Nothing is harder that finding competent repair work on cars. I used to do it all myself, but stupidly sold my shop. I was having bad repair experiences with the Ford so I remembered I bought the RV tires from Giusto on a recommendation from this board, they don't do the rear dual brakes anymore so we went to the dealer. But they just finished fixing the last "repair" on the Aerostar and I am a happy camper !! The Hankook Optimo H724 tires are great.
  9. We got the same site as the last several years, C U there John & Mary & pets...
  10. linda s Very good tires. pressure is about what I keep in mine and the torque sounds close. I think the torque on the rear is a little higher like 170 but I have had my wheels off lots of times and I have never torqued them . Nothing has ever fallen off. I stand on the lug wrench and jump a little. Very exacting skills I have Linda S Most manufacturers supplied lug nut wrenches are made to a length so that is the way to loosen / tighten. I am old and lazy so I got an extended length 1/2" breaker bar and 6 point socket. The problems that happen here is when you go to the tire monkey who doesn't change the setting on the air tool when tightening the lugnuts. Then the extra length tool is really gold.
  11. uthorns Am I the only one who has no idea what y'all are talking about? Sure I could google it but that's too easy. The dust there , and there's a lot of it !!, is really fine, finer than talcum powder. It will get into anything. What I did was buy a bunch of disposable cameras. Wouldnt want my DSLR's / lenses subject to that. I think ours was in an enviroment like that before we got it, all the top running lights didn't lite up, after removing the covers and bulbs I blew the fine dust out of the sockets out with compressed air, now all work. I would rent an RV for that, you will sure see a whole lotta rented RV's there.
  12. karincorbin If its just a tab then a bit of sheet metal stuck on with silver solder might be a workable fix. Silver solder is strong stuff if you properly clean and flux the surfaces. It is not as if you are going to be taking the bulb in and out frequently and if you have LEDs it might never get taken out during your ownship time so a repair of that kind should last just fine. Great idea, I had forgot about silver solder. I fixed it by cutting back the plastic holding the tab holder part in place, bending a curve at the end which projects out and contacts the base of the bulb better than the original tab.
  13. WOW, another great reason to stay out of Texas, http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/08/12/130812fa_fact_stillman , I'm not ever going back.
  14. Find out what's wrong first. If you can dis and re assemble main parts it's not that bad to have heads repaired. I did a valve job on Mary's 93 Opel GT and they sent the head to a place in Oakland that replaced a cracked exhaust valve seat and crack in the head and were able to save the valve. Ran great till she sold it. But I also replaced the cam with what was called a "3/4" grind. Combined with the Weber carb it ran as good or better than my ferrari red '90, which had much higher compression. Whole thing didn't cost that much, well under 1,000$. Investigate before despair, you can still come out OK. vanman
  15. Just replaced my isolator and ckt. breaker yesterday. It's been OK but it suddenly developed a 3V drop across the contacts. Not charging the RV battery well. But from the looks of it I guess they are both original as well as the crimp lugs. I also added a 2A fuse in the line from the wiring harness to the ioslator coil. I neated everything up and re-insulated all the hot leads. vanman
  16. Wow , I'll have to look up that chart again. My Subaru uses 95V, I would expect the RV to be rated very much higher. vanman
  17. No, because I have Java and Javescript turned off and I got to Tools/ clear private data between sites. Just for grins I used to keep the preferences/ privacy/ show cookies window open, amazing how quickly that window fills on some site. And the names of those things, at least some have a sense of humor. vanman
  18. Totem http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?app=gallery&image=2462 picture of where i located them and their size; it was like they were made to go there. Looks great, that's my next project so where did you get those??? I looked online and there are lots but not sure of quality, many have no reviews and some bad. TIA vanman
  19. I forgot to ask if anyone knows if the metal pins inside the connector on the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the bulb socket are removable ??? It would sure be easier to just swap 'em then cuting, splicing, crimping, taping up the harness. I have seen similar auto connectors that had a releasing tab for their removal, but could not find any way to do that on these, am I missing something ??? TIA vanman
  20. After much head scratching I realized the Toyota people figured since the front turn signals are mounted in plastic there was no reason to follow normal automobile convention in their wiring. Bulbs don't care but LED's do so I cut the wires behind the plug housing connector and reversed 'em. Now I've got nice bright left side turn lamps both front and back. I did follow the harness to the engine compartment and there it was the white wire with longtutudial black stripe and the 2 red bands crimped to a lug bolted to ground. In many years of working an cars, motorcycles, boats, I've never seen this before. But will sure check polairty on the bulbs not yet converted. vanman
  21. What does it mean when I see at the bottom of front page under logged in users and it says me, Google, Bing.?? Are these indexing the site?

    Converter

Our 91 Dolphin came with the linear type MagneTek converter and there are (were) 2 areas that can cause that. There is a relay that switches the battery to the trickle charger and the coach DC to the converter output. There is also a center-tapped transformer at the bottom. Ours began to hum and I found it too warm for my comfort level, so I replaced it with a new one( Progressive Dynamics). vanman
  23. Added a 100 ohm resistor across the rear left turn signal so I can use LED's for both left side turn signal. Worked well till I was putting the front together when the small bent portion of the ground side tab in the socket fell off. Managed to bend the end into a curve to contact the side of the bulb and now it's working. But I think long term I better get another socket. Hope this is an auto parts part and not a Dealer only part, we'll see. vanman
  24. While back I had a boat and we camped out at the lake a lot. At the Lake New Hogen Campground in central Calif they charged a small fee per day untill late in the year, when the camping was free. At which time a huge group of large RV's came together from all over the northern areas. They all knew each other and were going south from the cold weather. They were oraganized to the point of having a assembled platform which they used to put on skits, dances, conserts, real full-timers. If I could get Mary to go for it I would like to keep our home but get one of those giant RV's and just give it a try for a while. I guess as long as we kept the house we would be OK with this, but it sure looks now like it's not gonna happen. vanman
  25. I need a right side Dolphin 91-94 vinyl end cap. That's the part that goes into the rear bumper cover and the side skirt on newer Dolphins. Do you think he has one of those? if so I would like to buy one.
