  1. Zach with you looking at Mercan Iron now, when you feel the mental cobwebs forming this winter. Take a few hot laps around Google with Tiny Houses. Maybe you can avoid a yurt.
  2. Well depending on your ability to deal "not normal". Apache made a fiberglass sided poptop in the 80's.
  3. Harbor Freight has a IR gun cheap, you can get the engine hot then check the top tank. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=ir+reader
  4. If Canada and fiberglass doesn't scare you add Big Foot to your list
  5. OK more google Not as sexy as Airstream, maybe cheaper. Avion and Silver Stream
  6. Well your looking at google try Trillium Camper (Canada) Scamp 5th wheel.. a bit rare but out there Alumilite travel trailer I mean you might run out of things to think about
  7. http://www.rectorseal.com/index.php/rectorseal-tru-blu/
  8. Most rvers belong to fix it so it dont leak and lets go camping club. Why else is there so many ratty "everything works" rvs for sale? Toys are no different.
  9. Ok Hobo, minimum work. Get a 21 ft Sunrader, they arent that much bigger and are cheaper than most 18 ft. Conserve your capital. Worker Bee (WB). Truck and trailer. A pu with a camper shell gives you a way to seperate wb stuff from house stuff. Random thoughts Truck trailer 2x plates and insurance At work our Chevy 4wd Burbs average 20 mpg ar 65 mph, so don,t limit yourself to Toys. My 26 ft class A gets the same mpg as your Nookie when parked. Like how much are you going to be driving? A 19 ft fifth wheel is WAY bigget than any Toy For full nomad life style a pu with a simple popup camper and a trailer would let you do short trips in style and still have a home base
  10. Are you going to be a HOBO or a traveling worker bee?
  11. Wal Mart has Camco vent covers for about $20. Not sexy but they protect your vent cover and let you open the vent whenever.
  12. Even pipe threads get some pipe dope when used for gas.
  13. Never use force, just get a longer lever.
  14. Absolute total WAG from the peanut gallery. 1 Toyota/Lexus had a recall on the harmonic balancer 2 Collapsed motor mount. Good Luck Edit Next time the transmission is out, use a dial indicator on the flex plate center. The torque converter is centered by the bulge in the nose , not by the bolts. A bent crank flange may act this way. No vibration with out converter due to its mass.
  15. The easiest way to check, is to check the dia of the springs eyes (the loop at each end of the spring) if they are the same size then you need the big ones at each end. If one end is small and the other is larger then you need the big and little set.
  16. Here are the 2 winterize kits you need to do this with the minimum RV antifreeze for the heater....https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-water-heaters/rv-winterizing-bypass.htm for the pump....https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-pumps-water/rv-pump-converter.htm There are other brands that use plastic fittings that are less money.
  17. With a bypass kit on the heater. I can winterize with less than 2 gallons
  18. Not would but did. A 99 26ft Georgie Boy Class A. We've spent up to a month at a time traveling in it. Advantages over the Escaper, ROOM in side, fresh water and holding tank capacity, storage compartments. and it will tow 5000lb. Disadvantage is MPG 10 vs 14. At 26ft the parking is only a bit harder than the Toy, but the view from up there makes it easier.
  19. Around here there are companies that spray foam the exterior of mobile homes and workshops. I think 2" of spray on and a layer of Rhino Liner should do the trick
  20. Yep My 79 VW Rabbit Diesel was a 49-50 mpg car. The new VW's aren't even close. The Rabbit had the autobahn tank, 24 gallons.
  21. FIW, based on personal experience here is what I've found. 60w bare minimum for a naked camper, nothing but lights, water pump and a little heater action. 100w..... minimum camper + tv and radio 200w......100w camper + CPAP, inverter for microwave, computer gaming. It helps a bunch if the battery AH sorta matches the panel watts. Like a 100w panel should have at least a 100AH battery, more battery is good.
  22. Get a v meter and check to see if your alternator is working. A house battery is around 80AH and a running Toyota MH uses about 20 amps in the day time. So a house battery will run a MH for 2-3 hours including a couple of starts. If the charging system is good then the original truck battery is toast and was only taking a surface charge.
