Hi folks, proud new owner of an '85 Huntsman here. While interior renovations are already underway and a FF/4x4 swap is on the horizon, my baby is only rolling on three (I know) tires at the moment. This unfortunate situation is due to a ravaged inner wheel and needs replacement in the interim. I have searched high and low for a used replacement to no avail. Does anyone have a foolie lying around that I can take off their hands or do I need to have one made? I'm willing to pay cost and shipping if necessary to get it ASAP. Though, if anyone has one semi-local to northern California, it would be great to meet you.

Cheers and thank you for having me. Please brace for many other newbie questions in the future.

-Tom Conte

PS: I think this is the right forum for such a question. Excuse me if it is not.

Hi Tom,

I just did a full axle swap to a gm 1 ton.

My foolie wheels are probably still at the garage in Hampton NH. I would get all four wheels if he still has them. That way they're sure to match.

Franks Garage. (603) 926-4900. Ask for Frank

Fred, I was cruising through your thread and thought I might reach out. Thanks for the lead! I talked with Frank and he's going to get back to me about shipping cost on Monday.

PapaFred, I'm in area code 96145 but if you have a UPS freight depot nearby, I can pick up in Reno, NV. Let me know if you don't mind going out of your way.

Linda, I don't know how you found that in their inventory without an applicable make/model but thank you. I'll give them a call in the morning.

Time is a bit of a concern at this point so that will probably narrow all these options y'all have come up with. Thanks for the effort, everyone.

I've been searching for Toyota motorhome stuff for a very long time. It's a little quirk I found on car-part that if you search for a 1986 dual wheel axle sometimes 5 lug axles come up. Doesn't work for any other year. Listing looks like this

1984
Wheel
Toyota Truck 14X6 5 LUG DUALLY 000 A
0 10237 $Call 97 Auto Wrecking Shull's Towing USA-WA(Brewster) E-mail 1-800-822-5761

yes I know it says 1984 but if you search for 1984 no wheels come up as duallies. Like I said, quirk

Linda, I still can't reproduce that search. Maybe in time I'll learn your ways. Anyway, I called Shull's and they aren't sure it's the foolie I'm looking for. I sent them a photo to compare, but a wildfire is threatening their area and, understandably, might be headed home early.

Your near me. I'm in San Jose. You could try calling the Toyota salvage yards near Rancho Cordova, Sacramento area. There are a couple. You could also try Dr George in Sac. They might have a clue where you could try looking. Dr George died but his kids are still running the business. I know there was an old Toyota motorhome in Madera at a you pull it lot yard but that was at least a year ago. Another option is wider wheels and tires and run only singles in the back.

Of course there are full floaters and wheels to match near here. Might just as well do the job right.

It's just your inner wheel? The outside deep dish is good? You can make one. They used Ford Ranger wheels and drilled bolt holes in them. Lots of ranger wheels everywhere and lots of shops with a drill press. It's the deep dish side that can't be easily dulicate

Linda, I did cover the salvage yards in n. CA. Which wide wheels/tires are recommended? Yes, the super offset outer is okay.

Both, so modifying a Ranger wheel with super long bolts is "safe?"

Again, I know the real answer is to swap the FF but I need something in the interim.

I've got to wonder if trying to replicate what Huntsman (only?) did to make foolies is really the best idea for all but the shortest term 'solution'.

"INCORRECT REAR DUAL WHEELS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED MAKING THE WHEELS SUBJECT TO CRACK. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: CONTINUED USE OF THESE WHEELS COULD CAUSE THE WHEEL TO CRACK WHICH MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND POSSIBLY AN ACCIDENT."

Well what do the bolts on it look like. I have never taken one of these apart so I don't know exactly how they are put together. I don't have one. Take a pic. If you think about it all our wheels on every vehicle are just attached with bolts. match what's there in size and strength.

Yes we all know a 5 lug dually is not the best answer but short term just while he's fixing it up to move it around is better than nothing. The 5 lug duallies do not work as wheels without the inner wheel. That is the only one that attaches to the hub

I just talked with my local used "wheel guy." While he certainly has Ranger wheels, he is not enthused by the idea of modifying it.

Attached is what we're trying to replicate, if need be.

Nope, seems it wasn't only Huntsman that made the mistake of using Ford rims on a Toyota axle. :)

"SOME OF THE DUAL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES WERE PROVIDED WITH FORD WHEEL CENTERS WHICH DO NOT SEAT PROPERLY ON TOYOTA BRAKE DRUMS. THIS IS DUE TO A MACHINE SCREW WHICH PROTRUDES FROM THE DRUM. THE MISMATING OF WHEELS WITH BRAKE DRUMS CAN CAUSE STRESS CRACKING AROUND THE MOUNTING LUGS."

Derek, definitely.

Linda, that posting has since been deleted but I was ready to drive out there. Those in so. Cal are not foolies apparently. I called and he said they are six-lug. Also, the guy in Sonoma is unresponsive.

Frank that did Fred's swap says he'll get back to me by the end of the day.
