Beanprofit
Hi all, I just got a 1985 escaper with 56K miles on it and a 5 lug death trap axle. I need some advice on a replacement. I have available a 1986 toyota one ton six lug dually flatbed as a possible parts rig. I have heard mention that 87-93 years are the ones you want. Will a 86 work? Can anyone point me to notes on this conversion? What sort of modification/ fabrication am I looking at? What axle code am i looking for on the VIN plate? Thanks for your help
linda s
If it's got 6 lugs and a hub that stcks out in the middle your good to go. Mine's an 86 and there is no problem using that axle. As far as installation someone else will have to answer. I have only heard about maybe needing to alter the brake lines some. Don't know of anything else Linda S

WME
The only things you need to know is that the 6 hole rims need a flanged lug nut, and the 86 axle will have left hand threads on the drivers side
