paulnptld
Just learned a hard lesson. The 20 year old Dometic AC unit on my RV almost works with my new generator. So close! But no dice. So...can someone recommend the latest and greatest in AC tech out there to cool my Toyhome? The specs on my generator are attached. Thanks for the help! linda s
The only AC that I know will work with a gen set that size is the Coleman Polar Cub 9200btu. There is a thing called a hard start capacitator that you can add to your AC but don't know if it will work with a 20 year old one. Tom W
Even the latest and greatest, needs a little more info on the AC
WME
My Onan 2800 is derated to 2300w due to altitude. I need a hard start cap to run my 13K BTU A?C on hot days with 2300w. I don't know if 2100w and a start cap would do it. $20 is a cheap way to find out.
paulnptld
Great advice. I've heard of people using their Honda 2000i generators with the AC unit, so they must have had a trick up their sleeves. Guessing it's the hard start capacitor. Thanks for sharing. grandview bill
I wont size a generator here or for my neighbors...Ive had to do it on the job ocassionally...the problem is that most people want to save money...so they get the size thats marginal, and it wont start motor loads.....or some salesman scares them and they buy way over size....right now (as I write this and the power is not restored across the lake ,there an empty cabin with a large 20kw (very large) running.....with a load probably the same as a 100 watt bulb....my friend told me how pissed everyone is having to listen to it all night...really wasteful
paulnptld
Brilliant. http://www.modmyrv.com/2009/05/27/rv-air-conditioner-hard-start-capacitor I ordered a hard start capacitor and will let everyone know whether or not my inverter generator will now gain magical powers over my air conditioner. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JP3MEK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=
