gr8white
I checked mine and its been recalled. The nearest location to resolve this issue is an hour away. This is BS that I buy a brand new machine and they wont even reimburse me for the 3 hours this is gonna take me. I just got off the phone with them. Im pissed! Derek up North
I don't know if a recall on anything will reimburse you for your time taking it in. It sounds as though the 'fix' is pretty easy. Too bad they don't publish DIY instructions so that an owner could chose to at least inspect to see if it's a problem. Sounds as though it could be as simple as: "Remove cover. If clamp is rubbing, loosen, turn 45 degrees and re-tighten." A question of liability, I suppose! Riverman77
Thanks Derek for the heads up about the Honda recall! I'll take my EU2000 back to my local dealer and have them move some tubes around - no matter if mine is affected in the recall or not. Maineah
Where I live all most every thing is an hour away!
zero
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generator and contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer to have it inspected/repaired free of charge." http://powerequipmen...call-poster.pdf Seems it would make more sense for an owner to take 10 minutes and put a new hose-clamp on the fuel line. Heck even if I owned a Honda generator and the dealer was only 50 miles away - the gas and time I'd use to go there once and maybe twice would buy an awful lot of 1/4" hose clamps. Been through this with three recalls on my Ford diesel truck and my newest Subaru recall. Subaru wants me to drive 50 miles and leave my car there for a "free" recall. Then make a 2nd trip to get it. Note this requires two people and a 2nd car each time.
Derek up North
My guess is that it all boils down to liability and litigation! Too many lawyers, not enough mechanics. If you chose to not take it in and handle it yourself, they can wash their hands of any problem that comes up.

With my 1994 Ford diesel truck, Ford sent me recall notices for every year for many years about a fire hazard from the brake-switch on the master cylinder. But when I called several dealers - none would do the 5 minute fix while I waited so I put if off for years. I just left the switch unhooked since it was redundant anyway. Last summer while in Michigan I stopped at a Ford dealer and mentioned it - and a salesman (not even a mechanic) came outside and did the update with two minutes work. With my Subaru - they want me to drive 50 miles twice - leave the car- so they can inspect my control arms for rust. I already "inspected" them myself. Vanman
Ah subaru. Dealers are terrible around here, took mine in still under warrentry told him the battery was bad. I even explained what was wrong; charged battery, let sit under no load 4 hours, check specific gravity levels: cells 1-4 ok, 5 low, 6 even lower. SOB said when I went to pick up car " There's nothing wrong with the battery, but wel'l replace it if you want for 350 $" ??!! The stock battery is a small capacity group 24 45 $ tops. I guess that's 300 $ for the work? Replaced it myself, will never buy another subaru, shuda got that Toyota I was looking at. Lesson learned. vanman
Totem
Nice to see they are taking care of their customers, not so nice to see a generator that's THAT expensive have a QC issue like that.
zero
Nice to see they are taking care of their customers, not so nice to see a generator that's THAT expensive have a QC issue like that. I'll assume Honda is forced to do it, just as many other companies are when it comes to safety issues. When I worked as a John Deere mechanic, Deere Company was forced to make an effort to find every 2010 and 450 crawler they'd ever made dating back to 1960, and the recall came out in 1985. What a mess. I suspect Deere is still searching for some of those dozers in order to avoid liability. Unlike cars -or Honda generators with filled out warranty cards -there is no sure way to track ownership of a bulldozer.
