You most likely will have to add a resister to the led circuit.

I thought that ^ was needed just to get older-style flashers to work (i.e. turn signals) - ?

Vicki, do you have any actual voltage at any of the wiring or contacts for the rear running lights? That's where I'd probably start, with a meter—any cheapo unit will work.

i think you are getting good info. no resistor needed tho. believe power for the front marker lights comes from the rear, so its likely at the rear lights (the prob)

a test light is all you need, pay attention to grounds

Flashers etc need resistance to work, the LED's provide little or nothing this is why you have to provide resistance. The bulbs in the original set up have enough resistance. The marker tail/ lamps are not part of the scenario so the problem is not related.

Most likely you have a problem in the wiring underneath or a bad ground.

Crawl underneath and look at the wiring harness.

Bring a test light and figure out which wire is which.

Pretty common situation and the wiring needs maintenance on these rigs.
