  1. The higher the outside temp the more current the AC draws on a restart. Classic sign of a weak starter cap is one good start then it won't restart when the AC cycles.
  2. Did you have a front end alignment done? Factory rear sway bar ?? Front suspension bushings good? Rear suspension bushings good? Front / rear shocks new? Bad bushings let the axles move without the suspension working to control things
  3. I agree, the Stock Toyota system is very good. Some of the after market stuff is of questionable quality. The under hood temps are almost as important as any power increase.
  4. 95 degrees, AC on, 2nd gear, 35-45 mph, 5x8 enclosed trailer. Climbing over Powder River Pass from Buffalo WY. The road goes from 4500ft to 10,000ft in about 17 miles. The trannie temps run around 210 degrees. Two things 1 I'm going faster than you and have better airflow, 2. The cooler is a 5x14 flat plate cooler and not a tube cooler

    Food Storage

A long time ago I went to a high end rv show, I'm always looking for ideas. In one of the $500,000 diesel pusher the brochure mentioned custom fitted storage bins in the cabinets. So took a look and they were Sterlight plastic bins. Went to Wal-Mart and found them. I'm still using them. Put like stuff in one and stick a label on it. Depending on the size of the bin 2 or 3 will behind each overhead door. You know what's where and you don't have to pull stuff out to see if what you want is behind something else. AND things don't fall out when you open a door after a bit of bumpy road
  6. 5 hub front https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/toyota-campers/photos/albums/319879374/lightbox/314130224?orderBy=ordinal&sortOrder=asc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/314130224 6 bolt front https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/toyota-campers/photos/albums/1432594855/lightbox/30090555?orderBy=ordinal&sortOrder=asc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/30090555 Look at the fender clearance at the top, not much change if any.
  7. Maybe so, the thought was don't eliminate any idea when you have to fab something from scratch. On my Chevelle the sway bar bolts to the lower control arms only and is not bolted to the axle
  8. I had a 2.8 Onan and a 13.5 AC. The only way to make the AC run was with one of the Hard Start caps.
  9. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say. There are 2 ways to mount a sway bar the traditional way like you are doing, OR you can mount the body of the sway bar to the chassis and the arms to the shock mounts. Think front sway bar. Don't know which would work better in a total new fab mount.
  10. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/toyota-campers/photos/albums/1432594855 I bought one checked it out and was satisfied with the alignment, I will admit that I carried it for 2 years with out using it. The photo album deals the full conversion after I bought a 2nd adaptor by its self. Fwiw I had one flat in the rear with a 5 lug front. Limping almost 100 mi on 3 rear tires in 90 deg heat is a lot more nerve wracking than driving the same distance with the "possiblity" of having a slightly off centered rim. A second flat later in the rear was a non event with a proper 6 lug spare. An odd point in 15 years of rving I have had 4 flats ALL ON INSIDE REARS. Don't know if I'm just lucky or what. I do check my tire pressure before each trip. Even then 2 of the failed tires still had proper air pressure after tread seperation.
  11. For info. I currently have a 26ft class A, it has 235/85/16 tire. I have to take care on washboarded roads. I have driven a Blue Bird MH with 11R22.5 tires, washboards will eat it up. You can't find a rim big enough to smooth out most washboard roads. You just need to find the magic speed, it will vary by road.
  12. Given that any design must fit in the toy during the driving. The simple answer is some sort of folding bunk that would go over over dinette for the night stop.
  13. Mine are out side and the piping is all black iron pipe. The actual T has a fitting to reduce the line to copper tubing to the appliance.
  14. How far have you driven this trip and how much oil have you used??? "Normally" oil smoke on start up is bad valve seals, smoke under acceleration is bad rings. Nasty question are you sure its oil smoke?
  15. Well good deal. If it's going to the shop anyway have the "hidden hose" changed. There is a long series of post in the other toy group about a ruined engine after this hose broke while out for a drive.
  16. Bubble check everything around the fill valve and see what is actually leaking.
  17. Check the suspension bushings too. If they are bad the rear springs can jump around without doing any springing.
  18. Clever dem Aussies, Watch you might find an interesting idea or two. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOCzT7AG1r8
  19. does the cheap Charlie charger have a 12v out hookup?
  20. A lot of hand ringing over not much at all. If you can't deal with a broken fan belt, you should stay close to home. If long distance travel is in your plans then you need to develope some basic skills. There several lists on this site with recommended spares to carry. A basic set of metric tools from Wal-Mart will give you the right stuff. The Idiot Book will tell you how to do it http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Your-Toyota-Pickup-Alive/dp/0912528893
  21. More random thoughts Make sure that you have a good 15lbs radiator cap, and use a proper anti freeze mix. 230 deg won't hurt anything if everything is up to suff. So we're back to slow a bit and let the engine rev is a lower gear. What kills an engine is when the coolant boils and forms steam pockets inside the engine. Steam conducts far less heat than liquid. A higher pressure radiator cap and a proper anti freeze mix won't boil until 267 deg My Escaper has a 3 row brass radiator. Go to Ebay and search for Bag Awning in the RV parts. A pop up works OK but you have to store ti somewhere.
  22. The offset in the rims was designed so that the center of the duals is the center between the rear axle bearings. With the offset known the front adapters were made so that again the center of the tire is centered between the front bearings. Design what a concept.
