  1. I just got screwed by town fair tire. Asked for 8ply truck tires and told them dont break the lugs. They ended up breaking them, then called me and said i have to take it home {drive or tow} and get tire removed new lugs installed and then bring it back for that tire. Got Mastercraft 6ply tires and i complained and they said tires can hold that weight. 1000lbs each. Im pissed
  2. Nice job using home furniture that fits. Only one bed now. I guess you dont need two beds though. Cant have sleepovers!
  3. Most adhesives will burn/eat foam. Get one that says for foam board available in caulking tube. But dont use it on anything else as it doesn't hold as well as standard polyurethane adhesive such as pl-400. Good luck on rebuild I did the same on my Shasta. Heres a link to my rebuild. http://toyotamotorhome.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1928&st=0&p=8761&hl=+burnt%20+shasta&fromsearch=1entry8761
  4. Standard 14x14 vent from rv place will fill hole. I recommend putting a vent in, cant have enough ventilation. I took out my genny, ac, heater and hot water heater. At home i dont have microwave or coffee maker so this justified it. Your lifestyle will dictate weather you need it. Hey maybe if you sold ac and genny you could use $ for springs!
  5. Ditto what derek said. Go to a specialty big truck leaf spring place. They should only install springs and nothing else. Searching on the net for springs is a waste of time. Anything you find will be ineffective for our heavy homes. And shipping would be expensive. A new set of leaf springs will be more durable than air bags and will last another 30 years.. Expect to pay $400-600 for new leaf springs. I think i paid $500 and not only are they new but they added a few which is what you need. I would then recommend getting new rear shocks. If distance is a problem just wait till you hit the road it will be well worth it.
  6. Ive been looking for a bubble window for a long time. Guess you have to make one or remove and patch with fiberglass as others have done . But you lose the cool look. Curious how much are they asking for it and how many miles?
  7. I too had similar problem. The Shasta would not start some times just a click which i found came from box above passenger speaker. I thought it might be a relay but put a new Auto Zone starter anyway. Well same old click. Had my auto electrical guy look at it and it was a bad connection under the main fuse box in engine compartment. He bypassed fuse and told me to hurry and drive to his shop where he fixed problem and installed new +,- battery cables and terminals. Problem solved. Until last night after driving home after getting new tires. I parked in front of home and went to move it later and again clicking coming from above pass speaker but also slight hissing from starter. Tried 40 times and nothing but hiss and click. Waited a couple hours and it started up but after an unusual long turning over of starter. It usually starts really quickly. ???? Happy 4th of July
  8. Just getting to hooking up drain pieces to tanks in Shasta which both have 3 inch male openings. Originally PO had it so you could not open black drain valve, the release handle was against tank. Currently there are 90 degree pvc elbows inserted in both tanks and then each has its own release valve. Both drains are about a foot directly across from each other. I would like to connect both grey and black drains After the valve releases so i dont have to move slinky from one port to the other. Does this make sense? There isnt much room for connections. . I unbolted the release valve from elbow and turned and reattached but now it sits low. Not much clearance but now i can open it. How is yours hooked up?
  9. After breaking old closet flange off years ago to remove and replace floor i am just now getting to replacing flange. I had to remove black water tank and loosen grey tank as they are mated together. With tank removed I needed to use a strap wrench and with great force the rest of the flange came out. Went and bought new male threaded closet flange at rv store and screwed into removed tank to make sure it fit. It did fit. Installed black tank and tightened grey tank. But now my new flange wont reach tank i need another 1 1/2 ". Any ideas anyone??? I didnt look to see if there was another one a little longer. Opps.
  10. i too couldnt believe how thin the roof is. my shasta didnt even have metal for the ac and not nearly as many "sticks" in the rest. I had a couple 1x2 and 1x3 around ac and all were layed down not on edge thereby making them very easy to sag quite a shame! I would reccomend installing a rubber roof over your tin and bring it over the sides and screw in aluminum termination bar around perimeter. Alot easier install if you dont have any protrusions through the roof. Or remove most and the reinstall over new rubber. Fairly easy install. I install them on homes, good luck
  11. Wish i had a hitch. Anyone replace their rear 4" bumper? Heres an option http://www.ebay.com/...d#ht_2378wt_776
  12. I say go for it and forget all the talk of other vehicles go with a Toyota. It is hard to chose from pictures but i sure like the cover on the first one. I spent 3-4 months years back traveling around 10k the country in my Mirage. It was one of the best experiences. I was approached by lots of retired folks in National Parks who admired my youth and told me they wished they had done so earlier in life. So go for it and trust the ever reliable 22re even if it is matched up to a weak auto transmission. Your in no hurry! A 4x4 sunrader would be my ultimate but those are rare and expensive. 2cd, go for a 2wd fiberglass yoda ,3rd aluminum framed smooth sided filon, 4th wood frame smooth filon, 5th wood frame currogated filon like my Shasta. I like 5 speed better than auto. Another major thing to think about is layout which there are many. Good Luck on your hunt! Ive got post on here about completely rebuilding my Shasta something i would steer away from if i were you.
  13. Thanks Mainea for info wasn't quite sure seems only diff in wf 8700 Vs 8900 series is amount of dc and ac circuits. Is there advantage to fan in the front? http://www.ebay.com/itm/WFCO-WF-8735P-BLACK-35-Amp-RV-Trailer-Power-Converter-Charger-Camper-Trailer-RV-/370607039976?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5649e6a5e8&vxp=mtr#ht_861wt_1147
  14. sounds like very good deal.Does that have a v-6? this forum is priceless!
  15. Thanks guys. Derek does the 45amp one charge the house battery quicker.
  16. Did you upgrade yet? If so what converter did you use. I am replacing my entire old 25amp unit and was thinking of this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WFCO-WF-8935-RV-POWER-CENTER-CONVERTER-35-amp-W-PANEL-/290693488706?_trksid=m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8072284130250752477#ht_1226wt_1147 Do you know if i need bigger wire as some suggest? Does difference in amps mean diff in charging battery?
  17. I replaced my rusty tank years ago with a new one and dont know what size i replaced it with? I think a 14g. Ive run out more times than i can remember and never have any spare gas. Seems i run out more in my own state than when traveling. My gauge reads a little under 1/4 when its empty and i run out. 1/4 over full line when full. Dont know how to recalibrate. So i try to keep gas in it. But when filling, gas will run on cement if i overfill tank. I cant seem to stop leak from happening even after changing fuel filler hose.
  18. Cool idea! I need to install radio/cd/?. So should i look for only double din as its an easier install. Thanks
  19. Welcome! You sound mechanically inclined which i am not. But i had clicking sound and changed starter and same thing click. It ended up being a bad connection from battery to the main engine fuse box in engine compartment. Just thought i'd throw that out there. Now i have an extra starter!
  20. Nice Mirage i like the ground effects. Do u have a bathroom model? I have been looking for window for 10years with no luck. I need all three! I was thinking the same thing which is we would have to get one made. There's a boat fabrication biz nearby that advertises "we make custom boat acylic & lexan windows". And was thinking of stopping by one day. You could always have em make a bunch and sell em on ebay! Once they perfect the mold it wouldnt be much to make more.
  21. [Have you guys replaced the black rubber keeper? Where can I get this? hey greg i did replace my keeper and purchased it from my local rv shop. i brought in a piece of the old and matched it up. Although linda told me after to look at window glass itself and sure enough on the glass it faintly says Herhr {i mispelled} and some numbers. so u could order it online as well. Umm damn forgot the name of the site but u could try google rv window gasket. My windows still leak. i need to remove glass and reglaze. and then reputty an rekeeper them for a second time! Did u do that? how did it go? good luck
  22. $12,000.00 rebuild Wow! Does that include new fridge, stove, heater and hot water heater? Take picts I'd like to see.
  23. thanks for great report! I liked siler strand as well, but $50 now ouch. I was thinking about putting a dc heating pad under fresh water tank to keep water from freezing in winter and warm up in spring. Since ive eliminated hot water tank. You think it would work? happy travels
  24. Thanks for the detailed how to because this is just what i need to do. I replaced some rubber keepers to stop water coming in. And now need to reglaze them as you described. Is it the same for glass paned windows? I shot compressed air into drains with no success from inside and out. Do the interior plastic window slides affect a windows waterproofness? Thanks!
