  1. Yup I just found that out. My cap for the fill valve was missing so I went to Suburban to get one. Super nice guy gave me a used one but I asked about what to do if I need new valves and he said only RV places do them. The one he recommended already told me they don't do them. They charge you hundreds of dollars to remove the tank and then they send it out. Of course they don't tell you where they send it. So I asked him if I could do it myself and he said no it's not safe. Then I told him my son was a diesel mechanic and was really good at this stuff and he said he wasn't supposed to tell people this but he gave me detailed instructions on how to do it. Then just bring it back to him for the purge. I definitely got the impression that he was pissed that the company doesn't allow him to do his job that he is vey good at. Cool guy He did say he could put one gallon of propane in and test all the valves and see where the problem was. Might be enough for Homer to know where he stands and go from there. If they do it at one Suburban propane they will probably do that procedure at all of them
  2. Funny. I have already relocated from San Jose to Eureka Ca. I love my sons F250 diesel. Ya know a Sunrader shorty coach will fit perfect on the bed of an F350 short bed. One of my dream projects. 10mpg sounds low. I will ask him tomorrow if he thinks you can do better. His is a double cab long bed 4x4 so as heavy as they get. Linda S
  3. Forgive me for being more upset about the horse than your Toyota. How horrible. Yes new grills are available lots of places. I usually do ebay for that kind of thing. Linda S
  4. Yes when I let mine get totally empty it smelled like I had a leak. The guy at the propane place told me the same thing. The oil they use to make the gas smell gets very concentrated and even the faintest trace smells like lots of gas but it's just the oil. Filled my tank and it went away. You did see some bubbles though. Why don't you just put in in the hands of the propane guys. Have them redo the connectors and fill the tank and test it. That is what they are there for. Worth some money to be safe. Linda S
  5. But apparently none of these fridges have that part you needed but Dometic couldn't supply. Strange Linda S
  6. Jack got his window today. I wished I had really looked at it when I first got it. I only needed the passenger side so I had this one left over. Darn it was super clean for an original window. He's going to have a boat window maker look at it and see if he can make them. If it works out we all might have a better source for new plexiglass windows. I'd replace all of mine if I can do it for a reasonable price. I know lots of people just think they are a pain but I love the look. My Toyota Sunrader still has the original windows, never removed and they don't leak one bit. They are pretty hazy though. The other window I used for my Nissan Linda S
  7. You guys waste too much time fixing stuff. If it starts and drives go camping. That crap will still be there when you get around to it. Lots of things in mine could use work. I've been putting it off for over 12 years now. Don't ya just love a Toyota. Linda S
  8. I was pretty sure Totem was talking about the all fiberglass later Mirages so I didn't include the older ones in my discussion. Interesting brochure info though. Looks like the older Mini Mirages were a completely different company. They were located in Costa Mesa Ca and I know that the neat fiberglass ones were all made by Mirage of Elkhart in Indiana of course. Certainly explains the vast differences in construction. Linda S
  9. You mean the whole camper? There were only 2 models. The one where the back opens, about 17 feet and they made a few with a side door and a rear full bathroom. I've only seen about 5 or 6 of this model. Maybe 3 feet longer? I don't know for sure. Just looked it up on Nada. Apparently there were 3 models. 17' 6" the little one we see the most. 21' that is self contained so the rear bath and 18' 6" and that one is supposed to also be self contained. I have no idea what it looks like. Don't believe I've ever seen one for sale ever Linda S
  10. Nope but then the Sunrader itself doesn't look quite as futuristic as the unique Mirage. Just nice clean looking cabinets. Linda
  11. Lots of west coast Sunraders have all fiberglass upper cabinets. Usually 87 and newer and for some reason not on the rear dinette model. Linda S
  12. Yes much easier to stay below max weight with the smaller rigs. My Sunrader only weighed 5260 and that was pretty loaded up. Parked next to an Odyssey or an Easy Ryder it looks tiny. I don't know how much the Easy Ryder weighs but it's the only true 24ft Toyota motorhome that I know of. Little is better Linda S
  13. Yup. Were pretty much all overweight. Greg's king cab Sunrader 4x4 weighed in at 7600 lbs and that the earlier chassis with less weight rating. If it was a serious issue we wouldn't be here. They would have all fallen apart years ago Linda S
  14. I know someone who has been planning to put one in his Sunrader 4x4. He just keeps putting it off. We also have a member here who might be picking up a Sunrader 4x4 soon and I think he's planning on that upgrade too. We'll see. Linda S
  15. Advantage is the only place I know of to get exact replacements. Maxx fab never made one for anyone that I know of, just talked about it. Tap plastics won't even attempt it, I've asked. Linda S
  16. It's been listed on eBay 3 times so far. Used to be 6500 buy it now but someone on the Yahoo Toyota group noticed the engine and after some talk about it the price went up. I think he is at least watching that group. Might be here too. I does have some water damage in the overhead. See the droop in the middle Linda S
  17. Yes viewbots are always watching. Sampling from all major search engines and some other more unsavory places plus a ton of interested parties who just haven't joined yet. I try to keep an eye on whose viewing. When Google answers every question in the universe they have to know where to find that answer. Some of them they get right here Sorry your project isn't going more smoothly. Linda S
  18. Karen was the wiz as far as getting the new layer to come up as solidly as possible to the old. I've tried it and it works much better than just screwing it in. You drill holes just the tiniest bigger than the base of the screw all over your new piece before you install it. That way when you put the screws in it draws the bottom layer up to the top one instead of drawing the top down and makes a more solid attachment. I would put some construction glue in there too to help reinforce the old weakened part. Screws should be evenly spaced and around every 6 inches or so. Seal after with something good, 2 part epoxy or something as strong. Water heater and fresh tank are going back in and sooner or later something always leaks. Linda S Don't overtighten the screws. Old stuff could just rip apart. I do the last few turns by hand so I can feel where it is.
  19. I would definitely add some wood there. Don't cut out the old. It's going to add support even though it looks shot. The entire floor is just fiberglassed to the shell and cutting anything out can weaken the structure. 1/2 inch marine plywood should do the trick then seal that after you get it in place. . You will still have enough clearance for the tanks to fit under the seat. Ceiling fan works on 12 volt but if it's old maybe it just doesn't work. Multimeter will tell if it's getting juice Linda S
  20. Crazy meticulous work. That thing looks brand new. Were going to love watching this project. Linda S
  21. here ya go. Just need to join. It's a pretty active group. Lots of really good info https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/toyotachinook/info
  22. What amber one. I don't know about that. Link? Look at the tabs. Not the same. Just checked different measurements Linda
  23. I had to rebuild the step area in my Nissan and I think I added wood to the inside to reinforce it. Was a long time ago but more is better there. Wood top and bottom then blocks and another layer of wood for the inside step before I covered it with the flooring material. It's quite a drop and you want the step level with the bottom of the door. Linda S
  24. Don't think your going to find one without a wet bath. I think all the 21 footers had full bathrooms. The shower shouldn't have drained onto the ground. There was supposed to be a holding tank there. Just cause it's got a wet bath doesn't mean you have to use it but trust me you have girls. It's going to get used no matter what they say now. Hope you have better luck next time. Yeah there are some pretty nasty ones out there that people think are gold. Linda S
