Considering replacing

looking for recommendations 

for local purchase and install

NOTE 1984 22R and 1985 22R are different. May interchange when using a Carb

Just did compression test

149/150 in all for cylinders 

started engine after short time

no white smoke some moisture 

from tailpipe third and fourth 

cylinder plugs not as clean as one and two?

Sounds like you’re ok on the head gasket. You could have had a heater core fail.

loop the two heater hoses together, bleed any air out of the block and see how she runs.  Good luck.

You don't say why you are replacing this engine, is there a failure in the engine?  If so, there is a hidden warranty on Toyota engines, and this is usually associated with a gasket failure.  There are some conditions, which can be determined by contacting an authourized dealer and see if you engine qualifies.  I have had two engines rebuilt because of this warranty and there was never an issue about the repair.

I know of no such 'hidden warranty'. Please provide any details you might have.

If you're referring to the Special Service Campaign for the 3.0 3VZE, it's not 'hidden'.
