wonderabout
Came across some pictures of a dam nice Chinook I took awhile back, was in great shape, got to wondering if it belonged to anyone on here, had Vermont plates. What year would this have been?
linda s
There are a couple of red white and blue chinooks on the Toyota chinook yahoo group. Like this. I believe the owner sold it and has a Sunrader now and I think he's a member here too. It is pretty. He restored it himself. It's a 77 Linda S

hunkaman
thanks derek, ok just trying to educate myself here. why no dually ? because it is a "chinook" ?, i was under the impression all toya's had 4 wheels in rear. either a dually set up, or a tandem configuration. thanks for your knowledge in advance. joe from dover
Derek up North
In the early days ('70s) single rear wheels were used, either standard pickup width or wider with a tire like an L60-14 before the MH started getting bloated and 'foolies' (and tag axles) were introduced. Even the size of Dolphins.
hunkaman
thanks derek --- another question ? (forgive my ignorance) what exactly is a "foolie" and when you say "tag" axel is that the same as a tandem set up ?? joe from dover
Derek up North
'Foolies' are dual wheels welded or bolted together to look of real 'dualies' and are what lead to overloaded axles/bearings on a 5-lug axle. They're what lead to rear axle failures and the axle recall. See below for a snapped axle on an 18' Sunrader with foolies. A 'tag' axle is an extra axle added behind the standard rear axle. That I've seen, an experiment tried by a few manufacturers from '79-'81 and then dropped. See the '79 Dolphin 300 version of the tag axle (attached below). 1979 Dolphin 300 Micro Mini.pdf
