Hi guys !

Looking for some advice about winter tires ... I'm in Canada (QC) and for those who don't know winter tires are mandatory from the decembre 15 to march 15.. So I'm looking to get real winter tires ( not just 4 seasons ) to go for extended ski trip in the provinces ... So far I'm out of luck to find an the exact 195/75r14 winter tire ... closest to what I've found is this : https://pmctire.com/en/sailun-ice-blazer-wst1-185r14c-102-100q-c-6.tire

Can someone tell me if I'm going straight to my death with these or if any of my fellow Canadian's have found tires to run there toy during winter ...

Thanks a lot

N.D.

They also appear on the Sailun USA page. Waaaaay down at the bottom of the list.

I just sent an email to Sailun USA to ask how to find a dealer in the US. The Canadian website has a Dealer Locator, the US site doesn't.

https://simpletire.com lists Sailun tires but no results after a search for 185R14 and no sign of the WST1. :(

With exceptions, including MOTORHOMES. :)

Winter tires requirement: a few exceptions

The winter tires requirement does not apply:

for the first 7 days following the purchase of a passenger vehicle from a dealer

for the last 7 days before the end of a lease of 12 months or more

to passenger vehicles with dealer plates (X plates)

to passenger vehicles with a temporary registration certificate (transit), for a period of up to 7 days after the certificate was issued

to MOTORHOMES

to the spare tire of a passenger vehicle or taxi

to motorcycles used as emergency vehicles

to vehicles for which a winter tire exemption certificate has been issued

Source:- https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-safety/behaviours/adapting-your-driving/winter-driving/

EDIT. BTW, before you ask, I have NO idea what "motorcycles used as emergency vehicles" could possibly mean! :)

Hey ! Thanks for the reply !

PMCtires seem to have them in inventory since they allow me to add them to the shopping cart... Usually if they don't have them it's just written ''out of stock'' ... Well I guess...

As for the SAAQ I was about to call them to clarify that for me ... it is written ''a motor vehicle permanently converted into living quarter'' which is ambiguous a bit ... what do they intent by saying PERMANENTLY ... I'll post their answer when i'll have it.

Et Derek ! Je suis dans les laurentides tout près de Saint-Jérôme.. Je suis en train de retaper un keystone de 21' avec un 22r qui a manqué d'amour pendant plusieurs années

I feel safe to assume that ours are 'permanent'. We've got fixed beds, plumbing and cooking equipment installed. To me, non-permanent would be a slide-in camper or a minivan with a mattress and sleeping bag in the back. But the way our Government works, best to check.

I've been emailing this morning with Sailun and they say they have the WLT1 in stock in Toronto (Vaughan) so you should be able to buy them locally. You might (or not) find it difficult finding someone with the right equipment to mount and balance our unusual rims.

An aside, do you have a true Full Floating rear axle? I've noticed that quite a few in Canada don't. What year Keystone? A 22R suggests early '80s.

I went this afternoon to my local Sailun Dealer and got a price of $103/tire, installed and balanced. Next I went to my little garage/mechanic who also sell quite a few Sailun. He gave me a price of $318 for 4, installed and balanced.

Hard to beat that, especially at Canadian prices!!

Let me know if you want more details. :)

Caution: Rant to follow.

I emailed PMC Tire where we first heard about the Sailuns. Here's their reply:-

Bonjour Derek,

Il manquerait un chiffre entre le 185 et le R14... 185-65-14 peut-être?

Translated, basically, it's saying I'm missing the 'middle' number and proposes that I perhaps mean 185/65R14. WTF is the matter with these people?? From an acne spotted, minimum wage, shelf stocking tire monkey at Pep Boy, I can understand, but from someone answering customer inquiries at a supposed tire 'specialist' I'd expect them to have more of a clue!!!! I refrained from any sarcastic reply, instead simply said, no, I want 185R14 tires and included a link to their own web page!! We'll see if he can figure it out from that!!

Rant finished. Thanks for listening. :)

Ya know I recommended the Sailun tire to a member a couple of years ago but it wasn't a winter tire. He bought them in Nova Scotia and said they were great. I will try to find the thread

Linda S

These tires. Apparently I didn't recommend them I found a shop that had supposedly Nexen's but this is what they could come up with. Don't know if they are still made

seven185R14C 102/100Q 8P TL SL-12 SAILUN's

No hits on this tire online that were legitimate

Sooooooo... Little follow up on this topic !

Haven't bought the tires yet but I called regarding the mandatory winter tires ! To be part of the MOTORHOME exception you need to register your rig as a motorhome when you register it at SAAQ ... There is something to do with the weight of the toy and the fact that there is a fixed bed that makes it automatically considered like a "motorhome" for them.
