Jayco Cabover

I picked this up the other day to tide me over until I get my 4x4 Sunrader on the road (hopefully this summer). I never really thought much of cabovers before but now that I have one I'm pretty excited about it. Especially for working out of in the woods. It weighs about a thousand pounds but it doesn't seem to bog my truck down too much. The interior is in great shape, too.

I think I have the exact same Jayco camper. Sportser 8' model. Did a lot of camping in it with three humans and a dog. In fact, we camped in it when we took a winter trip to Maine to get a Toyota Chinook camper. Weighs a bit more then 1000 lbs. though. 1150 lbs. as I recall when it's empty (which never happens with our's). Great camper and excellent crank-up mechanism. My only complaint is how ants love to hang out by the canvas when parked.

Almost the same, mine's the 7 foot version. Also no fridge and furnace, they were pulled to reduce weight.

Yes, mine has a pretty big Dometic 3-way refrigerator and a 16K BTU propane furnace. I also added a lot of stuff and also take a pair of "house" batteries when camping. The pop-up roof really helps with fuel mileage. I can drive all day long @ 75 MPH and get 17 MPG with my 1992 Dodge (5.9 Cummins intercoolded/turbo).

My diesel Ford F250 with a 10.5 foot high-roof camper gets 13.5-14 MPG doing the same.

I met a family with a brand new Toyota truck and new matching "ultra-light" camper. High-roof though. Toyota has a V6 and his fuel mileage was terrible (in my opinion). He was getting 13-14 MPG on the highway and worse if he pushed it. Not very impressive for all the money he had into it.
