85mirage
http://alfaparts.net/toyotapu84.htm In need of rocker panels for Mirage and only found this place which is in Canada. I'm in usa. It says usa may impose tax. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with importing new car parts into usa. Or any leads on new rocker panels in usa. Any other rusty ppl out there. Thanks and keep on Rockin!
linda s
Those look like very reasonable prices. I don't think the import tax would be that much. 10% at the most. Don't know how they collect it though. Maybe Derek knows. Linda S
Derek up North
Sorry, I've never imported parts from Canada to the US. Maybe an email to them might give you an idea of what their customers typically experience. Also ask where the parts are made. If made in Canada there should be no duty due to NAFTA. I see they ship with UPS. I also see in there shipping info "Using UPS will generate brokerage fees ...". The same might apply to your shipment to the US. I've heard horror stories of Canadians buying things cheap on EBay and then are shipped with UPS. BANG! $40 brokerage fee! Shipping with USPS (to Canada) bypasses the broker. As the seller has obviously found out.
Derek up North
Over coffee, I came across the following. Though it's about importing from the US to Canada, I think it's safe to assume that going the other way things will be similar (if not the same):- http://shiptotheborder.com/taxes-duty-and-brokerage-fees http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html I think I'd start with a call to UPS. EDIT: If/when these guys get serious about selling to the US, they'll set up a 'US Branch' with a P.O. Box in the US as an address and use one of the many shipping services located all along the border. They're only located 15 miles from a major border crossing. There are still a lot of Americans who hesitate before ordering from 'foreigners'. Here's a typical service:- https://www.kinek.com/kpointC/Landing.action?page=stp
linda s
Or just wait until spring and make it a road trip. Nice drive through beautiful country and 200 bucks worth of stuff is exempt Linda S
Derek up North
Stainless steel? Maybe for a Delorean!
linda s
I did some looking. The stainless steel ones are just trim that sticks onto the old rocker panels. Not going to work if the original ones are rusted out Linda S
Derek up North
That is what fiberglass is for. Stainless covers up the repair. Just like the Delorean!
