AKHiker
It has 103k miles 22re engine. They haven't used the plumbing and don't recommend it unless it's overhauled as they've never used it and bought it used. One small slow leak over the shower. Started and run regularly, even in freezing weather. They're asking $2k. I really appreciate any of your thoughts and suggestions. we're looking to travel some with our 3 big dogs. Thanks for the expert help!
Bob C
Has that particular unit had the rear axle replaced? It came from the factory with a five bolt 1/2 ton axle that is notorious for failure. You have to remember that if the motorhome is an '86, the truck is probably an '85. You know about the leak, how much damage was done to the skeleton of the motorhome. Most of these units have a wooden frame and they do not survive long term moisture. Search through the forum and there is a guide that tells you what to look for when buying a used toyhouse or other motorhome.
sdboltdude
2K IS A GOOD $ be ready to do a lot of work sounds like last owners did not do any up keep.. these rv are 20+ years old.. I would try every thing out including plumbing..(if water pump keeps running after it has water in lines then yes you have a leak somewhere if it shuts off after it's pressurized you should be ok..... have him turn on fridge hours before you look at rv to make sure its works.. also have him turn on a/c heater & water heater.... If more then one does not work you might want to look for another rv ..so your not throwing to much money at rv.. look under cab-over mattress for any leaks or water damage on bed frame... look for peeling wall paper.. knock on walls and celling to make sure solid (no rot)and bring a friend to help
linda s
If it's really an 86 and not an 86 coach on an 85 chassis the axle will be the right one. Easy to check just count the lug nuts on the rear tire. If there are 6 you are fine. Also should have a center hub that sticks out.
