waiter
You mean like this? Window AC unit 1 Window AC unit 2 This unit works great, best test to date has been 95Deg with smoldering humidity. I made reflective window covers and the unit was able to keep it comfortable inside. I originally choose the smallest unit I could get. That way I could run it on a small generator and it fit perfectly in the cabinet. However, If I did it over again, I'd look around for a 7500 BTU. If you do this, you need to measure the inside of the cabinet (height, width, depth) and make sure it will fit this installation. Maineah
I think what you are talking about is a ductless A/C system. They are just starting to gain traction in the US. the compressor and condenser are remotely mounted and the evaporator is mounted inside as a small unit. Very compact units and yes they would work fine in a camper and are used in foreign MH's they make a lot of sense. We are starting to see them in houses in the US and some can accommodate up to 4 evaporator units.

90toydolphin
i used waiter's plans and did it too. i agree with 5000 btu not being quite enough. when mine dies, and it will, i'll get the biggest that will fit and my gen will run. i also posted pictures of the installation. BobBeery
On size--our rooftop A/C is a 7000BTU. We haven't really been tested by horrible weather yet. We get between a 15 and 20 degree lower temp inside compared to out depending on how much direct sun we are parked in and how often we go out and come in.
