SloJourner
87 Escaper. The previous owner (dont have contact info) installed a gas only manual light hot water heater. However there is a lighted switch (the light still comes on) near the rear exit just below the oven. What does or did this switch do? Is it still in play for something? Thanks. Derek up North
It would be pure guess-work. Who knows what a DPO might have added. Your best bet would be to try to trace the wires.
WME
Open the cabinets and follow the wires, keep track of wire colors. Could be, water heater DSI (disconnected), water pump, power transfer switch, nite light for steps. Endless possibilities.
Dolphinite no longer here
I think that's the switch that makes your left front tire go flat. I never could figure out why Escaper RV installed those ... John
Maineah
Is it like a normal house switch? If it is it maybe a electric 120 volt element for the water heater it was an option on some water heaters.
SloJourner
Its not a normal house switch. Black cover, red lit rocker. Im trying to figure out how to post a pic.
neubie
When typing your reply, look for choose files link above submit to add photos. And I strongly suspect it is this switch (this is your switch!) we are discussing. Please a. follow wires, b. add the model number of the heater. SloJourner
The witres are red, black, and white. They go into the floor. If you look closely, one spliced white wire is disconnected.

When wires go into the floor they either run under the carpet OR if you see a little plastic tube around the wires where they reach the floor then they run under the cabin and back in through another hole. You see a red/white pair. In your 12V fuse box or 120v circuit breakers can you recognize the same pair by color/gauge? Is the other end labeled? When you see the button lit, are you getting 120v from a shoreline? Or are you sure its a 12V circuit? Handy with a meter and willing to get your knees dirty? Your best bet is to tug at the wires just a little bit - not hard - just to locate the cables under/through spaces. If you end up at the fuse box with no other connections or relationships then its the hotwater switch and safe to repurpose. Or, if connected elsewhere then its use or purpose. SloJourner
Its the 12v circuit. Ill check those fuseboxes. I have no way of reducing pic size. Thx
Maineah
It's a 12 volt switch but that's not to say someone didn't use it as a 120 volt one. It looks like a standard camper porch light or pump switch.

SloJourner
Yup, seems that everyone but me can get pics to load. I keep getting error -200.
