  1. while doing some research for a planned trip to view the solar eclipse, i found an interesting internet site. to set the table, going from dover, ohio to southern Illinois and NOT wanting to travel on interstates. began to wonder about bridge clearance along the way. traveling on the older U.S.routes,state routes, this could be an issue. so i found a site by "coach-net" low clearance bridge info.pdf. it lists by state, the hwy number, location and clearance in feet and inches. a quick check and i found that along my proposed, route there were no bridges under 10 feet clearance height. thought this could be useful. joe from dover
  2. my 92 winnie warrior has a 2 inch receiver hitch. not sure if this was original or a po added. i am guessing if it was original, it would be the "towing package" as the previous posts mentioned? any thoughts or comments ? i did purchase an aluminum "cargo carrier" from harbour frieght to haul a 1978 honda "hobbit" moped. the moped weighs 109 pounds wet. with the added weight of both carrier and moped, i am guessing only 150 lbs. should not be an issue. joe from dover
  3. congratz. from your pics, the exterior looks great. the price you paid seems very, very reasonable, even if it has some issues. good luck with your "project". joe from dover
  4. CONGRATZ AND GOOD LUCK. so you are a newbie to RV ownership. compared to some of the fine folks here, i still consider myself a newbie, even after two years in. this board is priceless for us newbies. the wealth of knowledge of the people here is astounding ! as is their eagerness to offer help, advice, experiences, and suggestions. so welcome aboard ! joe from dover
  5. kg4toi, did a one day round trip from ohio to n. carolia to look at one, did not buy. two days later bought mine 25 minutes from my home. weird world ! joe from dover.
  6. TO MY KNOWLEDGE (NOT AN EXPERT) ENGINE OIL DOES NOT BREAK DOWN, BUT THE ADDITIVES DO. THE IMPORTANT THING IS THE OIL AND FILTER BEING CHANGED ROUTINELY. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH USING NON SYNTHETIC IN A 25 TO THIRTY YEAR OLD ENGINE, NOR DO I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH USING SYNTHETIC OR SEMI SYNTHETIC EXCEPT FOR THE COST FACTOR. THERE MAY BE SOME PERFORMANCE OR PROTECTION FACTORS INVOLVED WITH THE SYNTHETIC OILS, BUT I HAVE HAD VEHICLES GO 200 K PLUS MILES WITH NON SYNTHETIC OILS. JOE FROM DOVER.
  7. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE PIC , THAT WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT, THAT THE WAY IS WAS CONSTRUCTED IT COULD BE PROBLEMATIC WITH SEPARATION/LEAK ISSUES. THANKS FOR THE INPUT. JOE FROM DOVER.
  8. looks extremely nice. am not familiar with the "new Horizon" model. from pic looks as though the cab over is molded fiberglas wedded to the remainder of coach, which is gel coat sides, like my 92 winnie warrior. wondering if my observation is correct? joe from dover.
  9. an update , secured a "camping" spot at a moose lodge near where i wanted to be in southern illinois for the eclipse. the person i spoke with at the lodge had no problem with staying one night or two in their parking lot. no hookups, but the fellow offered an extension cord ! told him thank you but i will be self contained. did find out this is common practice with the moose for their members, and some lodges actually do have hookups. good to know. this courtesy is extended to members free of charge. of course i feel a donation to the host lodge would be appropriate. joe from dover.
  10. not sure if we are talking about the same situation? when i replaced all the clearance lights, on my 92 warrior, i had to snip some strands of the copper wire to fit into the new lights where it makes contact. joe from dover.
  11. i drove 8 hours one way, to look at a craigs list prospect, only to find the photos with the ad were from the "good side" needless to say the conversation (before driving to north carolina) i had with the owner were less than honest on his part. drove back home the same day. two days after that disaster, found my winnie 25 minutes from my home ! go figure ! i only had to kiss one toad. joe from dover.
  12. a concern for the v-6 equipped models (there are many) is the head gasket. toyota offered to replace them at no cost but there seems to be a difference of opinions as to the current status of the program. i found that my 92 warrior had the head gasket replacement by calling toyota USA, and providing my VIN. the person i talked with confirmed the work was done and at what location. in my case it was a dealership in New York state. good luck with your search. joe from dover.
  13. welcome, from another koolaid consumer. i share your enthusiasm. i am still fairly new, had my warrior about two years. it is a plus that your boyfriend has mechanical skill sets. from what i have learned, these are all going to require some level of repair, maintenance or updates. so the purchase price is just the beginning. having that said: you will find help with any issues here, and the more seasoned owners have many suggestions to help you save some $$. good luck. joe from dover.
  14. i have used a product made by dupont chemical called "prep sol" to remove dried silicone. try to scrape off as much as possible then use the prep sol. to remove the remaining silicone. joe from dover.
  15. not an expert here, but a close visual inspection of all the usual suspect areas would be a logical start. i would pay particular attention to the wall/roof juncture, any vents, and any other areas where some thing is fastened to the roof. also, check for damaged or weather worn window rubber seals, loose caulking, etc. good luck. joe from dover
  16. i have the coleman pictured. wondering if anyone knows of an adapter that would allow hook up to a 20lb propane tank ? those little canisters (1 lb ? ) are a pain. thanks. joe from dover
  17. linda s. and others, you may try this company. STEELE RUBBER PRODUCTS. they are a specialty company that makes window and door weatherstripping for antique, classic, and collectable auto restoration. their web site does list RV products as well. they have been the "go to" place for finding oem weather seals, etc. for street rod builders and restorers. you can find them @ steelerubber.com hope this helps. joe from dover
  18. from looking at the photos and the owners description, i would not let the salvage title deter from a closer look. the price seems reasonable as well. joe from dover.
  19. that IS an absolute work of functional art . hats off and a vigorous "WELL DONE" !! it is stunning. as a retired cabinet maker, the one slide (photo) that showed the cabinetry being assembled with all the clamps, justifies my response to many that had occasion to view my clamp rack (over two hundred clamps of various sizes, shapes and functions), and ask, "ya think ya got enough clamps?" my reply was always, "CLAMPS ARE YOUR FRIEND !" JOE FROM DOVER.
  20. hey there, i know replacement panels can be ordered from some rv dealerships via their parts department. a local dealer ordered mine. you could probably find them online as well, shipping my be a concern?. good luck joe from dover.
  21. after the video, i'm sold. no dry ice in my fridge. thanks linda s joe from dover
  22. hey there. do you have any more info ? or pics of the damage? if you noticed water damage at roof and sidewall, inspect the trim strip . hard to say what and how until you totally inspect all suspect areas. if any area feels "mushy" to the touch, i would assume you have a severe problem with rot. joe from dover.
  23. fantastic rig. looks pristine! and a 4x4 as well. not sure you could do better!!! awning is a great addition. thanks for sharing. joe from dover.
  24. hey there, if you really want a close match, the auto body supply stores around here offer "custom mixed" spray paint cans. i have not priced this option. i am sure you could locate a similar store in houston and check it out. BTW. i lived in houston in the mid to late seventies. did a lot of camping in the hill country near austin. good luck. joe from dover.
  25. hey there derek, i am sure you make your ancestors proud ! i try to make a dollar stretch enough that i can read the newspaper through it. being frugal seems to be a lost art on many i know. joe from dover.
