  1. When you choose a belt there are a lot of factors to consider. Such as the top width of the pulley groove, the root size of the groove & the angle included & the depth of the groove.. These measurement's are seldom discussed, but should be considered when choosing a replacement belt... There are a lot of "fitzall" belts being sold that do not fit the application as intended, but will work (for awhile)....also, belts are made in metric as well as SAE sizes.....If you are fortunate to have your original belt...(most of us with 20 year old vehicles are not) try to get the #'s from it....other wise MEASURE............... donnie there are other manufactures besides Gates & Dayco........try Continental for metric sizes HTH
  2. It would if you have 2 batteries...Do you? if you do which one is discharging?...If you only have one battery, just disconnect it for a week or 2 when you are not using it.. What kind of battery is it & how did they check it to qualify that it is good...??......... donnie
  3. I'm with Maris on this one.. Any decent mechanic can replace the defective parts in these rear ends.. Even a shade tree can replace the center section if he is not able to set it up to specs... but to install a rusted housing & putty it up with JB Weld, then zip tie the brake line & THEN CHARGE YOU FOR THIS REPAIR, is beyond my ability to comprehend this type of "repair".... & I'm going to assume that you paid him well to do this? I would NOT try to go back to recoup any $$ from this shop.. Take your losses & move onward.. There are good mechanics & good parts all over the place.... Ask for advice on this forum before jumping in... There are a lot of good people on here & we are all willing to help... I hate to see someone get hammered like this... good luck, donnie
  4. Myself, I would go with a fiberglass body for all the reasons stated prior. I am not fond of aluminum sticks & staples motorhomes. I do not know where you are expecting to travel so I can't offer any advise on your engine choice..Although the 4 cyl in either version. carbed or EFI is easier & less costly to maintain...this is only my opinion......there are MANY others on here with a lot more knowledge of Toyota coaches than me. So take my advice lightly & good luck.....I think the Sunraders are worth more in general... I also think that someone on this forum has a real nice one for sale...................donnie
  5. Thank you Linda & JD for your effort in fulfilling my request pertaining to the old Basler converter..... Donnie
  6. "Regenerative motion capture" has been attempted before, the one that I recall was a gent in Texas in the '70's tried it in a Ford Fairlane using 2 large under the car HYDRAULIC TANKS to build pressure on the coast instead of braking...It was accel & decel...using small hydraulic motors on the rear wheels..to drive the vehicle . There was a pretty conclusive story on this man & his car in a very early edition of John Shuttleworths .. MOTHER EARTH NEWS I would have to try to find the article to get the detail up on here...Being involved in Fluid Dynamics...that article captured my attention....Donnie
  7. Hello all, probably a long shot, but I'm goin' for it. . My '78 Chinook has a Basler PCM15CK power converter that is original to the truck.... I probably will never use it but I would like to keep the original one in it. I am searching for an original manual or a COPY of the original manual just to try to complete the literature on the truck & the appliances.... Operators book, schematic on the internals.......... anything at all... relating to this converter...... thanks, Donnie
  8. Only time I've had an ignitor go out it just went out, dead, no start, so I don't have experience with it just starting to get weak. I hope it's not that. $400 on Rock Auto right now... Weber does not have a sight glass, unfortunately. I think my truck only has one fuel filter, and I replaced it. It does miss at idle, also. Zach, didn't mean to cause alarm (ignitor).. I see now a MISS at IDLE...check for vacuum leak first, easily overlooked If you can get hold of a vacuum gauge, connect it to a manifold port...a LOT can be interpreted from your vacuum gauge report..reading low, unsteady needle, etc......donnie
  9. Has anyone tried any of the Stop Leak additives for transmissions? My transmission pan has a very minor gasket leak which my mechanic has been unable to stop. He's replaced the gasket twice and done some other things, but it still seeps just a tiny bit on one side. NO, do not use any "trans medic in a can" seals are now made of a material that will not react with "sealer" could be a selector shaft seal weeping...Find another mechanic...stopping leaks on any transmission is not difficult. Make sure that the pan holes are flattened as they tend to get tightened too much by an over zealous mechanic. Two gaskets & you still have a leak? It is probably not the pan...If it is the pan....ask your man to source "Duraprene" when choosing a gasket.. Do not use the cork/rubber or you will have to re-tighten it more often than you will want to..........donnie
  10. Yes, a cap--wires- cracked spark plug, sure A spritz of water will flush out the problem . I'm not sure you can locate a faulty Ign module or related component with a bottle of water....I was under the impression that he already checked the cap & wires..Excuse me if I am looking too deep, but I do recall some igniter problems in the era of his engine.......donnie
  11. Zach, a while back I posted a way to find out if the problem is Ign. or fuel.....It may be on another forum, not sure..If you can't find it in my past posts, let me know & I'll find out where I put it...& get it up on this forum...If I am thinking correctly, your fuel pump is in your tank, NO???... If it is just an occasional stumble this method may be useless....Your fuel pump can drop out for a couple of seconds & there is enough fuel in the carb to keep you moving...I'm going to lean toward Ign., or water...........although alcohol in your fuel should absorb the water.......donnie
  12. That is kinda weird, but cool ! So is the spelling...I before E --xcept after C....only in Budweiser, I thought....wrong ! The spill chicker caught me on the word.....anyway...... I mean the Toyota / Art Nouveau common denominator is not really weird but for sure, cool ....I think that there are a lot of "commons" that we all share, but mostly they are kept within, sort of a shield to self preserve. Your bronze is cool, I'm glad that you like it & that you are going to designate a special place for it in your Toyota....This whole thread was fun & enlightening for me,,,Probably boring to most of the members, if anyone followed us??? thanks to both of you..it was fun............donnie
  13. Yep, ole Donnie has rocked the wild side, a couple of times.. and it has been a great ride.. & I'd do most of it over again if I could. thanks Linda for reading the thread & for your comment.........donnie ......
  14. Thank you all for your help...you have all been great in allowing me the opportunity to practice in the thread.. Many of my posts were Travco & not Toyota, but you all got to see into a small piece of my cluttered mind. I will end this with a post of my Chinook..............onward..............donnie
  15. Here is a view looking forward showing the original shag carpet, some art & a front section of Davids body..
  16. Here is a bit of my art showing the cabinet doors above the sink & stove..........wanna guess what the brown pouch is hanging on the kitchen wall? hint: we live on a mountain in the woods but are surrounded by farms........donnie
  17. Hello Karin....very keen observation...the old Airstream & now Zappa from just his head....how do you like the lamp on the rear night stand? wired for 12 volts.....I am going to try a couple more photo sends to see if I really have it down.....Yes the interior is original, from the curtains down to the green shag carpet......The cabinet doors are my art work ....made from trash...junk jewelry, car parts & misc found objects...much fun,.........donnie
  18. Hi Zach, thanks for the nice words..........the engineering side of my brain takes a break ever now & then & the other artsy side overwhelms me and I drift into another mode....I'm working now on my Chinook, just starting with the interior..outside is pretty complete.....donnie
  19. Hi, yes that deck has come in very handy, as we can never pass a second hand shop or a junk store....mostly junk stores because once things hit the antique malls..they are too costly for us...We both love roadside Americana , farm auctions, estate sales & flea markets..There is VERY little new decor in our cabin.......thanks for the compliment......donnie
  20. Zach, your help with "the full editor" was great.........I was not aware of it...editor, full editor, Quote, Multiquote the above language is foreign to me, well it was....I am slowly getting there...donnie
  21. Refresh his memory,.......... what memory?.............. Who is this? ....Oh, Karin, is that you....big laugh. Thanks for your re-sizing help....that was EZ, and your help was a lesson well learned............donnie
  22. It's in the bag....... Thanks to all of you for allow me to practice on this forum....Your help & kindness is appreciated .....................................Donnie........................
