  1. Pull the spark plugs out and see if it will spin huge clouds of white smoke sounds like a blown head gasket. I would pull the head if it spins with the plugs out it's worth having a look not a real big job would be a whole lot easier then an engine and cheaper too.
  2. The dual wheels have an amazing amount of traction but there is a lot of over hang behind the rear wheels so any dip or ditch puts all the stuff underneath dangerously close to the ground they are also quite heavy so soft ground is a good thing to avoid. Hard packed dirt roads are no problem just go slow.
  3. It's left hand drive so it may have come from north America are the rear wheels bolted on with 6 lugs with a protruding hub in the middle? If not you have the "bad" rear diff. If it's the 6 bolt it maybe nothing more then a seal they come apart just like any lorry.
  4. Any good spring shop should be able to help you out there are shops that just do springs from Yugo's to big trucks. They maybe able to rebuild them for you cheaper then a replacement.
  5. Where are you in Maine I live near Fryeburg. I also have a New Horizon Nova Star. Last year our coldest morning was -32 glad I was not in my camper.
  6. Smelling propane in a camper is not a good thing. The fan runs after the heater shuts the propane down to blow any left over propane out of the fire box you should smell no propane at all. I would not run it until you have a qualified tech check it out.
  7. That's still a good price for a 92. You might ask if the head gaskets have been done and if the belts included a timing belt kit. If the timing belt was not done it is past due and needs to be done like soon not a deal breaker but some thing you'll need to do.
  8. See if you can find out the module is that might help. All of them pretty much work the same when you turn on the thermostat the fan runs actually fairly long before the heater lights so you will not get instant heat. If it just sits there and blows cold air after a couple of minutes then you have a problem, the first thing I would do is plug the camper into the house and retry it they need a good hot battery to work properly. Another thing to try is light your stove for a bit before you try the heat to make sure you have a good supply of gas to the heater
  9. Rear bathroom? Check the hot water heater too it's old enough to be leaking.
  10. Shoprat's right should be a plate riveted to the fire wall. Lots of numbers I believe it starts with JT. If you find it rub a pencil over a piece of paper on top of the numbers. I don't think they will just take a copy of the numbers.
  11. Those 1156 LED’s are some of the brightest I have seen yet but some thoughts; they are 120 lumens and a 1156 is some where between 300 to 400 lumens (good deal brighter) the LED’s are around 7,000 degrees K and the 1156 is some thing around 2,400. What all this means is the LED’s are not as bright (but not bad) and the LED’s are much whiter some thing closer to a compact florescent. Whiter light takes a bit of getting used to, most of the every day lighting we use falls between 2,200 and 4,000 (more yellow looking) 7,000 is close to bright sun light. Sorry for the dissertation but I deal with lighting on a regular basis and over the years we have been trying to replace small wattage lights (we use hundreds 24/7) with LED’s in an industrial application and the powers that be have a problem with the whiter light so if you don’t mind less light output and a whiter light the LED’s do use considerably less power and last 10,000 hours or more and that is definitely a plus. Another thing you can't judge LED's by wattage you need to look at lumens and cheap LED's give cheap results.
  12. Man I'll bet a used V8 Toyota engine would cost more then I payed for my entire motor home!
  13. Is it air conditioned? If so there is a drain tube in the box by the passengers feet a rubber tube about 1/2" a round, still rain water should not get in there. If you were using the a/c to clear the windshield it may have been condensate dripping out from a plugged drain hose. The fresh air box would have to be pretty full of water to get inside.
  14. We are not ignoring you, water leaks can be one of the most exasperating things to try and fix the only thing I can suggest you try is to get a friend to squirt water on it while you have a look under the dash with a strong flash light. It's not rusty around the glass is it?
  15. The Feds make them post the pressures so I would say it keeps them from being hung out to dry what ever works best for you is what they should be just as long as it's enough for the weight I don't think there is a magic number. The Brazillian tire would scare me less then one from China!
  16. Wow. OK I'll try a home made transmission cooler? Have a look underneath and see if there is some thing that looks like a little radiator. Or maybe a engine heater for the coach? Guess just turn it on and go looking. Toyota did not use any toggle switches so it's some thing that was added.
  17. See if you can find the coach builders tag it should be some where near the drivers door it will give you an ideal of what they think the tire pressure should be. The Toyota sticker pressures will not be high enough for a motor home.
  18. http://www.maxxair.com Maybe this will help too lets you keep the vents open even if it's raining. They make all kinds of vent covers.
  19. I think others that say they tow a lot of weight are very lucky or maybe they don't mind transmission overhauls brake jobs etc. I know I would never buy a used one with a hitch on it. Got to remember these things are right on the edge and you have to be able to stop that extra 1500#
  20. It is true that there are only a few manufactures of starting batteries the reason I like the Trojan batteries is because they only make deep cycle batteries they do not make starting batteries to sell under some one elses name. It is a very old American company (85 years) and I have had excellent service from Trojan batteries in many industrial applications pallet jacks etc. They are not for every one they are not cheap. You are right about a 27 verses a 29 (I think the new number is 30h) I think the biggest 27 is about 90 AH and the 29 120 Ah my suggestion is to pick them up a deep cycle 30h should weigh close to 70# and a 27 around 60#. Most of the stuff I have seen listed as deep cycle tend to use fuzzy math so if you find a deep cycle and its only 45# some thing is wrong with the equation pick them up and buy the heaviest one no matter where you buy it.
  21. Treat it like you would you family sedan check the fluids, tires and tire pressure maybe change the oil and filter, lights regular stuff. I would look the tires over pretty good check for cracks and ware make sure they are "D" rated not passenger car tires your new little motor home is pretty heavy despite it's small size. There should be a metal plate some where near the drivers door with recomended tire pressure it will be from the coach manufacture not Toyota my guess would be around 50 psi. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal they are great fun you'll find all kinds of excuses to go camping.
  22. There are a bizzion variables weight, fuel (here in Maine all gas is 10% alcohol) driving habits, temp, wind, hills but if you are doing 14-15 you are doing fine. Sure beats 6-10 in most motor homes.
  23. You have got nothing to lose go for it! They are not a hard rebuild the key word is "CLEAN" every thing spotless or the yuck inside will come back to haunt you. Unless you should be working instead of working on your transmission your labor bill will be $00. The pinned trans rebuild is a pretty good read it should help you through the rebuild.
  24. Wow that's going to be a hard one, seems like every one has their own ideal on what color to use I'll go out on a limb and guess the red ones are probably what powers your 12 volt stuff. The orange and yellow are some thing you are going to try and track down they could be grounds either one. Hook a meter to them and a good ground and see if you have continuity.
