  1. Does anyone have an guesstimate about the size of the LP tanks on the Toy MH's? I looked and could not see any information on the tank itself.
  2. I was coming home on my Goldwing today and a jerk ran a stop sign and almost picked me off. The dude was in a hurry and had to run the stop sign, but then, he drove 45 mph down the road. I keep asking my friends that are law enforcement to find a way for me to mount a rocket launcher on the bike, they tell me that people even cut them off while they are driving marked police vehicles.
  3. I hope that you get your problems straightne out and can start enjoying your Toy soon. You will love it when you do.
  4. I can agree taht with a chip you can get more horsepower OR better mileage. I can't see how they are going to get both. My problems would be that if they gave me another 25 hoursepower, I would use every one of those ponies. My mielage would SUCK because I would be hammering that poor little 4 banger.
  5. I am reaching mandatory retirement age this summer (57 yrs old) and am planning on 1 trip this fall and being gone for a couple of months next summer. We have always traveled cheap so that will not be new. With all four daughters gone, cheap doesn't have to be poverty anymore. We have always cooked most of our own meals, we like them better and are able to control our calorie intake better. I have only stayed in a parking lot a couple of time, but, I love BLM land. I always use the computer to find BLM before leaving home. With an extended trip, I am rethinking urban boondocking though. Let us know specifics on your trip. It sounds great.
  6. I have a really nice free standing screen house. If I plan on staying anywhere for more than a couple of days, I will probably take it along. You can buy them really cheap.
  7. One very important thing about the 4 cylinders is to not lug the engines. When the rpm's start to drop, downshift and let that Toyota engine wind up. They love rpm's. I installed a tach because I know that it is hard to judge how fast the engine is turning over. With our short steep hills in my part of the country I end up downshifting often.
  8. I have a stock cruise control on mine and I don't bother using it. We have a lot of short steep hills around here and I usually end up doing about 30 mph at the top in second gear. I have an auto trans and wish I had a 4 speed stick.
  9. Those must be California gas cans. We can still buy the old plastic gas containers with a removable spout that fits into the gas filler. The problem is that they do build up a lot of pressure on a hot day.
  10. I replaced the stock converter and put in a Progressive Dynamics unit. It is one of the three stage units that is suppose to be safe to leave on. It charges and then goes into standby and periodically checks the condition of the batteries. I have checked the voltage with a power draw and eveything off, the voltage stays very constant.
  11. Waiter, I recently installed a new converter (& isolator) and was wondering about charging the starter battery when plugged into shore power. I am not an electrical engineer and don't know how to do it correctly. A friend suggested using a temporary jumper wire between the output posts on the isolator, this would work but it would not be "the proper way to do it."
  12. 3M makes the 5200 sealant. Only use the stuff if you want something to be permenant. It does not come off. I used some on my fiberglass camper and it STICKS.
  13. I have an '88 Escaper and will take a look at my MH to see if I can think of anything. I ckecked my MH last night and on my model, there is no place for anything to slide out of the way. Everything is either open to the area under the bed (with easy access) or sealed up. Sorry, i can't help you.
  14. I would lean toward a bad battery. I had my Ford Ranger refuse to do anything with a bad battery. I would click but nothing else. I tried jump starting and it wouldn't do anything. My neighbor came over and suggested switching out the truck battery with a spare that I had sitting in the garage. The truck fired right up and ran great. I never heard of a vehicle that would not turn over when jumped but then again, I am not a mechanic. I learned that you always try a different battery before spending big money on a mechanic.
  15. MaxxFab--I know that you were writing your list to be helpful. Don't get upset when some of us write our thoughts on things. Like I said, I carry tools, belts, hoses, and some basics. I am not going to pull a trailer full of parts. Unless I tow a complete motorhome, i can't have everything anyway. I am not a mechanic, I can fix basic stuff. Why would I carry everything that you listed if I don't know how to install it anyway. I buy good stuff and expect it to do its job. I drive a 27 yr old Goldwing because they don't break down very often. I don't carry spare tires, stators, starters, oil pumps. I would need to have a chase vehicle to carry all of that stuff. If I was doing that, I would ride a Harley. Ever notice that every group of harley riders has a chase truck. Ever see a chase truck behind a group of Goldwings? (That comment will start a fight.) I enjoy driving my old Toyota MH because it is reliable and well made. I don't beat it, I take very good care of it. and expect it to get me home. If I happen to break down, I guess I will enjoy my time wherever I am and get back ont eh road when I can.
  16. I agree with everything that the others told you. I will add that exit ramps and sharp corners can be a problem for new drivers. DO NOT expect to corner like a sports car, I have seen more than one RV laying on its side. they are always totaled and people get hurt. Like Waiter said, lane changes are not a problem, the only thing that you will be passing is the Amish in their buggies (unless it is a young guy with a hopped up horse, he may pass you.) I have quickly learned to get off the super slab and enjoy the scenery. My wife has adapted to this really well. She can find some great roads. Get a good trucker's atlas and enjoy the slow lane.
  17. I carry a good set of tools, hoses, fuses, some wire and connectors, and belts. That is about it. I get things in good running order before leaving and hope for the best. If we here doing off road travel it may be different but I rely on a good product doing what it was made for.
  18. I agree that the brake fluid level is probably your problem. It took me a while to figure that out with my 83 Toyota pickup.
  19. I have also been looking for a new set of 4 mirrors. I was thinking that maybe I would go with 2 slightly larger mirrors and get a little better visibility.
  20. I was lucky in replacing the converter/charger. My Damon Escaper with rear bath/kitchen had the converter under the sink. All of the wires are right there. All i had to do was cut the feed line from the converter to the power panel and attach the wires to my new Progressive Dynamic 9200. It was just a cut and tighten affair. The converter gets its power from an outlet right under the cabinet. It took a whopping 5 minutes to complete the change. The Progressive Dynamics puts out 45 watts and has three stage charging. Like most modern systems, it goes to sleep when not needed and cycles on and off as power consumption requires. Before installing it in the MH, I had it wired up in my basement to a couple of 12 volt wheel chair batteries running lights, 12 v fans, and a 12 v cooler. I had it running for about 2 weeks and I checked the voltage a couple of times a day (just for giggles) whenever I walked by. The batteries all stayed fully charges and the cooling fan rarely came on. I even hooked up my inverter to try it out, and ran several 120 volt items off of the juryrigged system. The batteries remained charged and happy. My wife thought that I was nuts but i wanted to check everything out before putting it in the MH.
  21. If you don't have a good multimeter, now is the time to buy one. They can be purchased for $20 and up.
  22. I know someone that has some led rope lights in his camper, they put out a glow but do not really light the camper up enough to read or do anything.

    Parts

I picked mine up at O'Reily's Auto Parts for about $20. Solid State version.
  24. I don't have the greatest internet connection at home and can't get any video at work. I will send you my mailing address by PM. the highest resolution possible for sure. I tried sending a PM but was blocked.
  25. I have a 60/40 bench in my Ford Ranger which is wider than the cab of my Toyota. It is not comfortable to sit three people in the Ranger, but most of my friends are the same size as I am at 6' & 200 pounds. Even with my 120 pound wife in the middle it is crowded. With me in the Ranger and my 6 & 7 yr old grandkids if works ok for a short time.
