  1. the "not too many options" experience unfortunately begins with learning you will not be finding said shock mount plate brackets and Ubolts. most shops cut those off and sell them to forges to make things out of (leaf springs) and also you will want new leafs anyway, because OEMs were not designed for the camper weight and will be old and flat also. Shy of finding a rig or truck that has everything already and scavenging it; you will be needing to have the plates and Ubolts fabricated. Get luck and find some, they will usually get destroyed if removed from years of rust. if you found an axle off of 89-92 thats perfect IMHO. your mech should be able to make it work.
  2. be prepared to get proper leaf springs, you will need new ubolts, custom made shock mount plate brackets also to fit larger axle tube.
  3. great find Derek. Almost identical to my experience swapping in a 1 ton axle on 1985/6 Sunrader the only difference was that driveshaft mounting was fine no needed mods. I had to have new bracket plates with shock mounts custom fabbed, custom Ubolts made etc to accommodate larger axle tube.
  4. Update on this as I just completed the repair this weekend... I ended up buying a sheet of that gasket from auto parts store thats DIY with metal on one side cardboard on other. Next I got the 3 bolts free and separated the downpipe or whatever its called from the Y pipe. inside it only had one doughnut gasket the other the mechanic must have lost when reinstalling and judging from the one still there he cut a corner. The result was superheated exhaust gas dumping at leak point on one of the Y's and super heating there which helped spin off the nuts (if they were even installed) rather than try to wait for the doughnuts to be found or shipped. side benefit of custom gasket it was one piece instead of two and perfectly fit to it. I made template by pushing cardboard over the pipe and stenciling then cut gasket with snips. torqued down brass nuts then another set with permetex high heat thread lock instead of exlax. feeling it now there is almost no leaking at all. a slight whisper i feel may just be the air from the fan hard to say. Quietness of motor was the biggest improvement that and motor runs better.
  5. being the original post was March 15 I would say the browser/app of choice most definitely could use some ex-lax on searching efficiency for this site. (da-da-da-ching!)
  6. my old AC could make it snow in the toy. It was rediculous and we called it the "meat locker".
  7. Rather than BTUS it would moreso help to know the make and model of your AC unit. BTUs can be misleading especially if you have the ultra high efficiency models that use very little electricity. Most however will have the soul sucking 13,000 BTU standard full size overkill units and those units do not like honda or most other <=2k generators much. The secret to getting AC is not in the generator; it lies in the AC unit.
  8. Hmm, they sell battery cables at wallmart and meijers stores also in midwest. I just had to change my ground battery cable this past weekend as it had cracked on the lead part that squeezed against the terminal post causing much undesirable behavior during run and starting... glad I found it. cheap fix too.
  9. I just saw a guy buy a warrior on ebay for $25,000 yesterday... why stop there?
  10. https://www.ebay.com/i/253477441919?ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-241888-51242-37%2F4%3Fmpt%3D%5BCACHEBUSTER%5D%26ff9%3DGDN%26ff18%3DmWeb%26ff4%3D%7Bdevice_id%7D%26siteid%3D0%26ipn%3Dadmain2%26placement%3D482938%26mpre%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fi%2F253477441919%26srcrot%3D711-241888-51242-37%26rvr_id%3D1478278296610 frame mounted, could conceivably tow a nice small pig
  11. that frame is so clean i can eat off it. A+ excellent work.
  12. ... if it was made on the west side (disclaimer) - there were some differences in the Monterey Leisure version's construction. Still a great blog even if they did get rid of their toilet. If you have kids you will want to keep that toilet fo sho.
  13. i just bought a new to me polaris sportsman 500. I have a micro mini utility trailer that weighs in at 300 lbs, the 500 weighs 700 lbs. That would be 1000 lbs for towing. As I re-tooled my motor for speed and not torque this has me wondering if i could pull off towing the sportsman or not. My old motor I often towed 1000 lbs of gear on small trailer. Thinking of taking the quad with me up north to ride some trails in the UP. I have a smaller quad that weighs less, a yamaha 250 bear tracker that might make more sense, but the polaris is an absolute beast and worth the extra weight.
  14. i plan on picking out the old one then, painting some milk of magnesia on and then ratcheting down.
  15. ok, so thanks to WME I have the correct nuts to reclamp down the exhaust manifold to the downpipe (not the block) So again block, manifold, then this 3 bolt flange thing that goes to down. pipe and then exhaust... I picked up a spare gasket, its like a coiled light blue crushable circle gasket common for these. here is my question... I am assuming there was a gasket pressed in before; do I need to dig that one out and use new one or can i just tighten it down and save this new one as a spare?
  16. GM wasn't the only ones that had the cable rot into 70 MPH rear anti personnel weapon; My 3/4 ton 1998 diesel Dodge ram lost a VERY large "spare" (full sized) at speed while I was happily cruising away. somehow it fell and started rolling and went and bounced off a guys camry on its roof and dented it. he was ok though.
  17. I paid $7500 for mine in spring then dumped another $7500 into it over the last few years. Its not about the money, its about the memories. that being said on saving from hotels on vacations its paid itself off.
  18. Wow, put your bird to work on this site... rentals making decent night-lies https://www.outdoorsy.com/rv-rental/lakewood_co/1986_sunrader_classic_11833-listing?from=2017-08-19&to=2017-08-22.
  19. perfect timing on me lunch break grabbed 6 of them, a doughnut flange and some milk of magnesia. Plan on doubling them up instead of lock washer
  20. In my case its just the down pipe where it meets the exhaust. So far the header on the motor and all is ok. when I crawled under i was missing a stud on down pipe and the other two studs had no nuts pardon the expression...so its basically hanging there leaking. Anyone know off hand what the thread size is on those studs? I want to get the same and same nuts.
