  1. The windows are 1/8"at least the 4 that I have worked with all were
  2. Until last week had 3 sunraders in my yard now only 2
  3. Th old window was intact enough that I could us it for a pattern. The hardest part was to determine the length I made it about a 1/4" longer each way. I cut it down several times in stages to be sure it was not too small. I used WD40 to lube the old rubber. I did not use new gasket old seemed ok. I tried to put a picture on this site once some thing about "size" my computer "skills" very suspect.
  4. Well I finally got up the courage to try making a curved window for '82 sunrader. Attached a scrap of 3" ABS pipe to end of work bench got out heat gun & went to work. I cut it with a cutoff wheel on 4" angle grinder. Went better than I had expected. I got tinted plexiglass at local glass shop $140 for 4X8 sheet. I encourage you to try it.
  5. I just bought 2 of the newer ones at local R V dealer Bargman #74-32-001 w/switch I did not ask if they could still get them will next time I contact them
  6. Update:I contacted clark brothers they sent me to another company that said they did not do toyotas. contacted comercial speedometers (the one Linda suggested) they said they would make it & ship the same day $94 including shipping. Thanks for all the help what would we do without you guys & gals. Rich
  7. Thanks again the hole in the floor was moved back farther. Could this be a G40?
  8. You guys a so helpful. Thank you. The trans is not the L43 (I have a '77 with that trans) I have an '83 out in snow bank that has the 19 tooth one. Looking at the drawings in the haynes manual it looks like the one I am working on is maybe a W42,46,50 etc. The one with the 19 tooth looks like it maybe an L45,48. While at wrecking yard looking for something else I saw an '85 half ton with same trans & 28 tooth gear do not know what rear end it had. If it had 3.9 would there be that much difference (the one at wrecking yard)?
  9. Thanks for all the info. It is a toyota w/185R14 tires. The driven gear has 28 teeth I think it is 4.1 rear end.
  10. I bought '82 Sunrader 18' w/upgraded rear axle. The seller said had originally had 5 spd trans went bad was replaced by 4 spd. My issue: the speedometer said 75 plus when I was doing 55 plus. I am not sure how to find trans model #. I am not sure axle ratio. I am guessing speedo gear, dealer needs model# of trans. Has anyone run into this?
  11. The sunrader floor can feel spongie even when not rotted. a stiffener can often be added on the underside of the coach & laminate flooring on top can help. P.S. it doesn't get wetter in very many places than it does where karin lives.
  12. Hi Ted Keep me posted coming from E.Wa the "big" city of malott Rich
  13. Belated merry christmas to all. 16" snow on ground a nice day w/my wife of almost 47 years looking forward to spring & taking out the toy
  14. I have not seen a seam that leaks but I have seen pin holes. I do not understand why they happen I do not know if there is some kind of electrolasis but the rest of the roof was in great shape. I patched with small mound of polyurethane caulk then several coats of elastomeric over whole roof. A year later was still good. Suggested to owner to recoat with elastomeric each year.
  15. Ted would love to get together we were held at home this year with some family health issues but that has passed we are looking forward to do some traveling in 2013. Have not really met other toyhome owners wave when we pass on hiway but that is not enough we are in eastern wash spring time would be fun
  16. I,m 68 wife 65 4 kids all on there own had tent trailers when kids home tried 18'sunrader 4yrs ago 5,000 miles trip thought we wanted more room got dolphin 4 cyl. auto did not like auto got 6 cyl auto Itasca 4,000 miles liked 6 cyl. but couldn't shake the 18' sunrader we love the layout, can park anywhere do not need more room so we are back in 82' Lil Rader ready to do some more traveling
  17. I have seen the original plates used the U-bolts simply squeezed closer together under the axle & fed through the plates seemed to be working. would feel better with bigger plates though
  18. Many of the older sunraders just had 1/2 soft foam rubber glued to the walls & ceiling and upholstery fabric or vinyl glued to the foam. Seemed to work fine, could not attach misc things to the wall like you can with paneling but certainly easier in some ways. The carpet with 3/4" styrofoam behind it stronger than that, add 3/4" wood strips very strong. I did glue carpet around front windows w/o insulation.
  19. Amen gentlemen could not agree more
  20. You have a challenge in store if you have to take the black water holding tank out. I am not sure you can, the curve in the side of the outside fiberglass curves under the holding tank & very limited space between side & frame they are installed before the rv is put on the frame. The pipe from the shower has nut (ABS) connected to trap easy to get to WD40 might help get to turn. Take toilet out see if the toilet flange is glued to the 3" ABS pipe into tank. You may have to cut off flange. The 3" is probably glued into tank. The tank (ronco #59) was still available last summer. I took rv off '77 truck put on'86. Found out the newer truck frame was wider than older one. Had to take tank off to get it onto frame. After it was on frame could not get old tank on because of frame space. The newer tank at ronco is 2" narrower but I was not sure I could get it in so did not order. Used different style tank. Could you cut spring bolt off each end then put bolt in from outside, nut on from inside. Good luck
  21. If you decide to go with upgraded axle I found 3 on www.carpart.com. (I do'nt know how to put the direct listing on like you guys do)some times it is almost harder to find the 4 wheels also. The last one I paid $1200 for axle & 4 wheels the one before $500 for axle $300 for 4 wheels from different yards. Its kind of confusing to find on carpart but take time you can find it
  22. I tried something different than I had done before on the last sunrader. I glued 1X2s around windows & where cabinets etc. were to go then glued styrofoam the rest of the way. Instead of paneling I found some quality carpeting w/o backing glued the carpeting to the walls. Nice look I think. Just another idea. The guy that dropped the ball on the one I bought last summer said one reason he did not finish could not decide which way to go too many ideas. Good luck
  23. I've never seen particle board in the framing of dolphins. Finding the full floating axle might be fun but certainly doable. If you don't get the springs with it make sure e-brake lines are good, get U bolts & plates. It is a job but not difficult. Good luck.
  24. I wish you guys well. I bought a sunrader this summer that someone gutted then ran out of steam had plans but it became more work than they thought it would be. DO NOT let that happen to you.
  25. I saw a '85 18' Sunrader $6400 CL oregon coast 78,000 miles?
