  1. If your rig requires a lot of almost full throttle in O/D, then going to a 4:56 or 4:88 would you to use less throttle to maintain the same speed because the engine is in its power band and operating more effecently. Most O/Ds are like 15-20% the Toyota O/D is 29% way to much for a MH. Its almost to much for an empty pickup on anything but flat ground, but it made for good EPA numbers If you turning 3700 in 3 with out O/D and thats how you normally drive it. Then going to a 4:88 would let you use O/D more often with out lugging the engine. A 4:88 would let you turn around 3400 in O/D making the engine run with a higher manifold vacuume, getting better gas milage and better acceleration. So you can have your cake and eat it too if you make some correct chioces. Big slow turning V-8's are a whole different animal. WME
  2. Any added spring will make it ride stiffer. Airbags give the most lift for the least increase in harshness, but even then it will be stiffer.. The only way to get lift and soft ride is with a spring that is longer and has more arch, but the same deflection rate.
  3. Forward of the springs on the frame is the only place to put them, the rear extensions wern't designed to hold 6000lb
  4. Jack up the Toy, put jack stands under the frame. Put a jack under the axle, remove the shackle bolts and lower the axle. Then look at your bushings, I'll bet you gave wallered out holes. If so you need to replace them. NAPA and Toyota have "stock" bushings and you can order HD poly one at most auto parts places. wmE
  5. I got a set for a 2wd pick from Rancho. Everything fit except the front bushings. I called them and they sent me the correct one for free. WME
  6. What normally would be a bad idea, works for the Toyota because you are also changing the rim. And all the offset in the adapter is offset by the offset in the rim. To many offsets in the last sentance but you get the idea I hope.
  7. You would be better off selling what you have and getting a Chinook or Sandtana rig Cutting yours would involve the windows and give you to many leak points.
  8. The Toyota Groups site has a photo album in the pictures. The Toy owner rebuild the rear bath and front overhead . Title is 1990 Dolphin by dbabsjr. Good luck
  9. Try draining the waterheater several times and fluch the line by running the water for a while after you drain the tank. You will need a small generator or solar panels to keep the house battery charged if your are parked for long periods. If you drive the RV a couple hr a day the truck should charge the house battery OK My Toy has a little button to press from the inside next to the door handle. Also most of the Toys have a place for a dead bolt to be installed. You could get one form a home supply store or go to a locksmith and have them install one. Most of the stoves do not have pilot lights you just use a match each time, if I'm traveling or camping I leave the propane on all the time. That way the heater and water heater will work as needed. Good luck WME
  10. Well I drive in the Rockies in the winter, general main rules are 1 drive the bad places in the day time so you can see trouble spots 2. SLOW is good 3. If you need chains to proced, wait until you don't.
  11. To much tire pressure and airbag pressure can cause rough riding. Also worn spring bushings will let the springs slam back and forth instead of flexing like they are supposed to.
  12. On the Yahoo Toyots MH site there is somebody who owns one
  13. Normally the converter/battery switch controls which one powers the 12v lights and stuff in the RV. It does not controll the charging of the battery. If you pluged into shore power the converter is charging the battery.
  14. Look around here for a post "Put the Sawzall down" He did just what you want.
  15. At 50/55 MPH lock out the O/D. The V-6 has full EFI not TBI
  16. Towing is NOT recomended... But with frame reinforcing and such like you could propably pull a 1000lb trailer including motorcycle with trailer brakes. Just a pull along and about 400lb total is it. A Car NOT, not even a little one, unless you could find an Isetta
  17. Can you find an Toyota SR-5 dash panel? It will have more gauges and a tach.
  18. How many tires on the back axle 2 or 4???
  19. Thats awful low for a tach. Look into mounting it in one of the pods that go on the windshield pillar.
  20. Its a helper spring. The double nut is the preload adjustment. JC whitneys has lots, so does PEP Boys. Most off roading 4x4 places too. WME
  21. The Toyata carb has an extra accelerator pump (AAP). Its common for it to leak this causes the engine to hesitate.
  22. The air pump has valves in it to keep the exhaust gas from damaging it. If one of the valves fail then HOT exhaust can get in to the engine compartment and damage things. Best is to remove pump and plug the hole where it pumped into exhaust pipe. WME
