  1. Can a Toyota do ANY towing of a dingy? Naturally My Jeep would be a bit heavy, but what about a fiberglass VW Dunebuggy? I think they weigh about 1200#. Or will a Harley on a trailer work? What do you do when camped and wish to make a run to the store, or see the sights?
  2. We are presently selling our Bluebird, (anyone interested?), and will aquire another Toyota. We started out with a New Horizon, and toured the U.S. for Six months and 22,000 miles, but wanted something larger.. Now we want another Toyota. But we were happu towing our Jeep behind the Bluebird. Question is, if we get aanother Toyota, 4 or 6 Cyl. can it tow something light, like a fiberglass VW DuneBuggy, that weighs around 1200#? We have decided that for our purpose, Small is Good.!! Jack Smith SoCal
  3. I have found a Sea Breeze that may have possibilitys. 1988 with usual stuff and Microwave, Roof AC, and Genny. Inside is clean and is the rear bath model, with a Dinette on Pass side and a couch/bed on drivers side.. Entry door up front, and Ref and other cabnets mounted low, so interior looks uncrowded.Bed looks small for the 2 of us, and, when out, blocks thr bathroom. 60K miles, or so they say. Evidence of a small leak in roof over drivers side. 22RE engine with F.I. and auto tranny with OD. Problem is the whole outside needs paint. Trim areas (vynil?) badly cracked. Can this be replaced, or is it easier to paint? But the biggest thing is the fiber glass skin that looks like it has been covered (splattered)with short FG fibers.. Is this a "Chopper Gun" method of construction? Not smooth at all. looks real bad. Can the RV be painted so it looks OK, and what can we expect to pay? Any Comments Jack Smith Lake Forest, SoCal..
  4. OK, so I guess that towing anything, even a lightweight DuneBuggy is a bit too much with the Toyota. But would it be capable of carrying a 250 (or so) pound Honda Elite Scooter on a rack in back. Probably might have to beef up the frame and/or add some overload spring/shocks. Just need something to get us around 5 or 6 miles from the campground.. Jack SoCal
  5. I am not sure about welding with the Onan, but to borrow an item from the Jeep group, it is not unusal to mount a second alternator on the engine and use it as a dedicated welder. The diode would be removed and a couple of other simple changes made. Info on this conversion can be found on many of the JeepBoards. I have also mounted a York A/C Compressor on my CJ and use it as an Air Pump to re-inflate the tires after a days offroading. This will build up to 125psi & enough volume to run air tools. (also provides an air source to operate a 18 wheeler's air horn)! Jack SoCal
  6. Just a thought about hauling/carrying a Bike.. I am having thoughts about my Honda Elite Scooter.. Any Toyota M/H has quite a bit of rear overhang that PU trucks do not.. All that distance puts a bit of leverage on the coach.. So, it should be simple to hang the bike on the front.. I said simple, not easy!! But it could be done, and dont forget to re-mount the headlights and turn signals so the Bike dont obstruct them.. Jack Smith COLD SoCal
  7. Presently, till it can be sold, I have a Bus Type M/H. No problem pulling a Toad.. But we love setting up in a Campground, and not having to unhook each time we sightsee. Will the V6 Toyota satisfactorly tow a lightweight Suzki Sammy, a GEO or possibly a Glass VW Dunebuggy 4 down? A Sammy would be preferred as it has windows and a top. We are getting on in years, but might consider a MotorCycle on a Trailer.. Jack SoCal
  8. In 2000, I retired and we, my Wife & I, bought a 1985 New Horizon, fully equipped with Roof Air & 3.3kw Onan. .In the following 6 1/2 months, we covered 22 thousand miles, from Southern California to Nova Scotia and back..Spacewise it was adaquite for 2 adults, 2 Cats ,& our pet Possum.. This gave us an insight as to what we wanted in a M/H, or so we thought.. So, the Toyota went on the block, and was replaced by a Bluebird Wanderlodge.. Great--Lots of interior room, and all sorts of extras.. We towed our Jeep and sometimes stayed a week or two at the KOAs. Actually, we found we were restricted on where we could go and some camping spots were no accessable.. Also,, my Wife could not drive it, and now, with $3 gas & 5 mpg it is not really apealing. So now, the Bluebird is for sale, and in looking at the Toyotas, we have decided on a Sunrader, with the V6 if possible. We want a rear Dinette/Bed arrangment. Any suggestions on this? Any comments on this, or where we can find one? If I got a very light Toad, Suzuki or Saburu Brat, would the V6 pull that, even slowing on the hills? Our 85 with the 22R engine, gas mileage never got out of the 12mpg range.. Do the newer ones really get 18 to 20, as some owners claim, or is this a bit of a strech? Jack Smith SoCal
