  1. After reading about many people adjusting the timing to something other than what was specified, I was hoping that one of you gurus or physicists would be willing to explain the effects of timing. What happens to engine performance, reliability, wear, gas mileage, etc., as timing is advanced or retarded in relation to specification? Why?
  2. Blew off the cooler, fried the temp gauge, killed the O/D solenoid, smoked that little tranny...all because I trust this info here. Who wrote that BS? Aft line is the return line. Never trust anyone, not even a guy at the dealer, figure it out on your own! The tranny line closest to the engine is the fluid coming out of the tranny and going to the radiator to be cooled, but don't trust me or you might end up covered in tranny fluid like I did... and I can't work this darn site.
  3. Been trying to figure out a way of replacing the front 5 lug for a 6 lug so that I can ditch spare tire #2. The only two options I have come across are the adaptor and the 1 ton front wheel hub. I have heard of people successfully using the adapter so I imagine it is possible, but I have some concerns with this option: the adapter will change the physics of the wheel assembly, and I am wondering if it will be putting extra stress on some of the components, like the bearings. I am also concerned that the wrong size adapter will prevent the wheel from seating properly, as the wheel/tire may touch some of the brake or suspension components. Converting to a stock toyota 1 ton front hub, that is on some of the mid/late 80's trucks, seems like a better, yet more involved, solution. I am wondering what is involved in this project. Can I simply swap the hub? or do other things need to be swapped to? calipers? axle? etc. Let's say the stock 1 ton hub conversion can be done; will the 6 lug dually wheel/tire seat properly or will the wheel/tire touch some of the components behind it?
  4. I have found out that the aft line, running to the passenger side of the radiator, is the hot fluid coming out of the transmission.
  5. I am planning on installing a trans cooler on my A43D. I have read that it should be installed in parallel with the radiator on the return line side. Is this correct? Also, which line on the trans (drivers side or passenger side) is the return line? Should I install the temp gauge on the output line side before the radiator?
  6. I am hoping that one of you guys has a picture, or some info, of the overflow vent for the auto trans. I had an incident where I was leaking out a good amount of tranny fluid (which was pretty dark for recently being changed) from between the engine and trans. I know this could be the front tranny seal, but I am wondering if the vent could have allowed for overflow and this is where the fluid ended up. It happened only one time and, after 300 more miles, I am not leaking at all. I have a stock 85 dolphin if this matters. Any help or ideas is appreciated!
