  1. Gardner-Pacific was incorporated in 1973 with Stewart Gardner as the founder. Not Stewart E Gardner. My friend Peter was a close friend of the plant manager in Vallejo, Dean Elena, and spent a bit of time at the plant. Picking up your Sunrader in person was quite the deal. They treated you like royalty. Peter bought 4 between 1975 and 1987. The old man ran the show here in Cal and the Indiana plant Linda S
  2. I went that same route Bob in a Dodge van camper. What a drive. I did have to stop a couple of times to cool the brakes off. Linda S
  3. Hmm. Wonder if it floats. Would be pretty handy with all that water everywhere. Very cool though. Linda S
  4. Stewart Gardner of the Amerigo and Sunrader passed away many years ago. I believe Stewart E Gardner is his grandson and he is probably about 75. The original Stewart started in the trailer business in the 30's and was already pretty old when the Sunraders came about. some early examples http://www.allmanufacturedhomes.com/html/1949_stewart_nov02.htm http://www.allmanufacturedhomes.com/html/html/1956_stewart_091103.htm Linda S
  5. Bet they buy their Toyota's from the same American auction houses they buy their Ford's from. That plumbing company is still in business. I would be so pissed if it was my company. Linda S
  6. If you have manual transmission yes you can. Maybe even at 55. My best ever with automatic was 19mpg driving behind a big rig with no cross wind at 55. In California 55 is the speed limit for big rigs but so few of them obey it. Linda S
  7. Kind of hard to blame Toyota when that plumbing truck came from Texas. Maybe the feds should be investigating American vehicle auctions Linda S
  8. Remanufactured on eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Disc-Brake-Caliper-Friction-Choice-Caliper-Front-Right-fits-89-95-Toyota-Pickup-/261750173673 Linda S Here's a list of cross interchange part numbers. Check with the ones you have already ordered and see if any of these weren't correct or maybe not what you ordered at all BECK/ARNLEY 077-0964S CARDONE 19-1242 WAGNER CR126818 TOYOTA 47730-35070 RAYBESTOS FRC10259 CENTRIC 141.44087
  9. try https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php there is a large selection of after market brake calipers for a DRW 1992 Toyota truck from quality manufacturers like Bendix and Raybestos. Linda S
  10. The antenna on my rig came from Kragens now Oreillys. I don't know if they still carry the same one but it's possible that because there are so many Toyota trucks out here in Cal they stock more parts for them. I also buy lots of stuff online and I just don't think finding one is that big of an issue Linda S Shibs antenna doesn't look like my angled Toyota antenna either. It's farther forward on the top of the fender. Mine is mounted almost on the side. His is a far easier replacement
  11. I just got an email today from someone who asked this question to Manchester tank. They are the makers of virtually all permanent mount tanks in RV's. They seal when fully open and fully closed. Don't crank them too hard one way or another or you can damage those seals. A little leak in between is not unusual and not considered a major concern. Linda S
  12. You overheated your brakes. Were you in low gear going down the hill? You should have been, then the engine helps slow your rig. Also the minute you smelled anything you should have found a place to pull over and let them cool. Your driving a big heavy camper that has brakes made for an itty bitty truck. Better check your fluid before your head out tomorrow. Might be a good idea to stop somewhere and have them check the front pads too. Make sure there's some surface left Linda S
  13. ah and this looks better than a 7 dollar antenna? I already have people asking apologetically if I live in my Sunrader right before they ask me if I will sell it. Tape is not an option and not needed when you can just buy a new one at any auto parts store. Of course mines not broken but if it was that's what I would do Linda S
  14. Roof rack is antenna for tv only. it kind of works too. I have a regular antenna for my radio just where Shibs broke off. I get the radio, AM and FM just fine. Can drive from bay area to northern Cal with only a few places with no service and from here to Reno with no breaks in service anywhere. If I have to have noise then I stick in a CD. Just the noise of the road is very nice sometimes. Don't we all get too much noise all the time Linda S
  15. Neat. It looks exactly like my friend Gary's truck. I LOVE his truck. Linda S
  16. From Eric's differential page. Linda S '86-95 4cyl Turbo and V6* trucks and 4runners, and ALL '96+ 4Runners use the Toyota 8" 4-pinion differential in the rear. This diff is known as the "V6/Turbo diff." - Stronger housing than the 4cyl diff - Larger carrier bearings than the 4cyl diff - 30 spline axles - 27 spline pinion (pre-'96) - Ten 10mm ring gear bolts - 8mm axle housing studs with 12mm nuts - 4-pinion carrier (case) - 4cyl 8" diff carriers (cases) do not fit without custom carrier bearing adapters ($), try Inchworm Gear - A few pre-'96 V6 trucks and 4runners have been found to have come with the 4cyl style diff from the factory. Nobody knows why. * LPH/SPH gear info: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1478223&postcount=73
  17. Well NADA shows them being made until 1989 but I've never seen a V6 model. My friend Daniel has an 86 so I know they made them then. lots of posts on the toyota group site of 1988's too. Linda S
  18. Yes I know the newer ones made by New Horizon are very nice inside. This early one was made by the same company as the Odyssey's though and their early rigs were kind of funky. Completely different interior. Completely different company. Linda S
  19. A cult would require members to listen to their leaders. That makes this group the antithesis of a cult. LOL Linda S
  20. Turtle Mike, Tika, Gail and Stephen are all co owners of the Toyota group on yahoo. Eventually people move on and any of the current owners can appoint a new owner to take over their tasks. Much like here except that no one asked Derek, John and I before we were appointed moderators. Linda S
  21. Oh come on. A new antenna cost less than the tape that won't work http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MET0/AWUS20/N0201.oap?ck=Search_N0201_-1_2572&pt=N0201&ppt=C0325 Linda S
  22. Just buy a new antenna. It's been a while since I installed one but I have done it. It unscrews and the new one should come complete with the cable to run through the firewall and plug into your radio. Linda S
  23. Heat exchange water heaters are often found on boats. Seward and Atwood are the most popular. I considered this option for my Tiger Provan because the heater space is right behind the drivers seat and I wouldn't have to run the coolant lines very far. About the same price as a propane water heater but if you don't want to run your engine you'll need electric hook ups to heat your water. Jason remember your Sunrader originally had a 4 gallon water heater. The 6 gallon one won't fit. Too deep and the seat gets in the way. Replacement is a Suburban SW3 model. Not made anymore but there are still some on ebay. Linda S
  24. He's still going to be driving a Toyota and pulling a fiberglass trailer. Toyota+motor+home. Yup he still belongs here. Linda S
  25. Kind of looks all to elegant to be a work truck. Reminds me of this http://www.motherearthnews.com/~/media/Images/MEN/Editorial/Blogs/Green%20Homes/A%20Biofuel-Powered%20Hybrid%20Home%20on%20Wheels%20by%20Sunray%20Kelley/SunRayGypsy-026-lo-res.jpg Linda S
