  1. There are different thicknesses and widths but you can always double up if it doesn't seem like enough. There is black stuff which I never buy. It can streak later. I stick with the almost white. Just make sure it's the real thing and not putty tape. Butyl will string when you pull on it like chewing gum. Hard to even pull it apart. I put mine in the fridge before I use it. Makes it easier to work with Linda S
  2. I would rather just follow you, as in driving behind you so I can go too. Darn I'll just have to read about it. Might be cool to refresh some peoples memory about your unique rig too. Linda S
  3. I've never used more than butyl tape for even roof vents and never had a leak because of the seal. Linda S
  4. Mine has those tracks on all windows and only curtains. I have heard from many Warrior owners about how hard it is to remove the blinds to replace though. Apparently the screws for the blinds is hidden by the valance and it's very hard to get to. Hence my suggestion for possibly cleaning them in place. Totem if you ever want to have new curtains made the snap tape is not easy to find at RV stores anymore and the newer glide tape is junk. I bought snap tape at Defender boat supplies and it's just as strong as the old stuff. Linda S
  5. As I recall the blinds are very hard to remove. I've heard you have to remove the valance first. Might be more trouble than it's worth unless your replacing them. They do make blind cleaners that work pretty well like this http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1278425&KPID=954802&cid=CAPLA:G:Shopping_-_Catch_All_-_New&pla=pla_954802&k_clickid=92bfa504-2400-4582-84e0-c6fcc67af6e0 Linda S
  6. So can ya still buy drinks at drive through's in Wyoming? Just remember stooping in Cody and getting a glass of wine and being asked if I wanted it to go. While I was waiting, cars came by the window and ordered. So strange Linda S
  7. I could go look at mine but I think it might make a difference if your rig was made in Indiana or California. Where was yours born Linda S
  8. They just bolted the wheels onto the 5 lug hubs. No adapters needed. See the recess in the rear wheel well. Single wheels back there. At least they got rid of the foolies Linda S
  9. Complete with wheels springs and brake lines. Super deal for someone who needs one http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/pts/5754484335.html Linda S
  10. I found a note about it on Pinterest and that is a Scamp trailer in the back. Such a beautiful job Linda S
  11. Wow how cool. So it looks like a scamp type trailer mounted on a cool old truck. Can't tell what, International? Studebaker? But look at the engine. Did he convert this truck to front wheel drive? Very interesting. I would have driven to Sac to see this one. There is a guy in Ventura county that has done some similar conversions but kind of the opposite. He puts vintage trailers on Sprinter chassis and makes them look seamless. Linda S
  12. Did you cut the shapes yourself or order them that way. Looks amazing Linda S
  13. I don't know if the inside one is compromised by the addition of the outside dually. Might be OK. When you pick up new tire ask them to check the date code on you other tires. Anything over 6 years is too old. Jim thought his tires looked pretty good too but a couple exploded on him trying to get his rig home. They were just old Linda S
  14. There is still the problem of one exploding. Did you run over a huge nail or did the tire explode by itself. If one was faulty the others might be too if they were purchased at the same time. Linda S
  15. Yes it seems that's what JD and I are both saying. Get wheels and good tires and service the bearings regularly. I think you'll be fine. Just posted the axle sources so you could look at all options before you decide Linda S
  16. Just checked my Tiger. Astro GVWR is 5950. I know it weighs just under 5000lbs with me in it but all tanks weren't full. Leaves me with a lot more carrying capacity than my Sunrader. Linda S
  17. I use www.car-part.com for parts searches. Unfortunately the listings are not updated often enough Here's the closest place that lists one Gundies Auto Recycling USA-WA(Seattle-Portland) Request_Quote 1-800-444-4344 Request_Insurance_Quote They have wheels listed too. 45 bucks a pop and you need 4 If you go to car-part to look further put in 1987 to 1993. You only want to look for years that the correct axle was available of course. Linda S
  18. There is a thread on this site where one of our members wheels fell off of his 18ft Sunrader with the bad axle. Strangely another member happened to witness it and they didn't even know each other. I know of 2 other Sunrader owners, both 18ft, who just barely made it home in theirs after they picked them up. He had a vested interest in telling you it was OK. We on the other hand are just trying to help. Bet he's a member here and already knew all about this crap Linda S
  19. If you change the axle you can't keep those wheels. Not the same lug pattern. You will need to find the true Toyota wheels to match the new axle. You need to read as much as you can about it. See if you can even find an axle and wheels and price them out and hopefully some of the guys here will tell you what's involved in the replacement process. It's not a plug and play job. Narrower chassis Linda S
  20. Nope I think you would be fine with single wheels. A little wider than normal but still fit the bill. Wouldn't these look killer on your rig http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-x6-Pacer-Chrome-Directional-330C-Chrome-5x4-5-0-ET-330C-4612-Single-Rim-/282040447966?hash=item41aaebb3de:g:LTMAAOSw9ZdXJ0Pv&vxp=mtr And here are some wider tires with the right load rating https://www.tires-easy.com/205-14/thunderer-tires/ranger-r101/tirecode/TH0309 Way cheaper and easier than a new axle. Those axles can cost a grand before you've even started and for an 81 the are new shock mounts and spring perches to be welded on. It's all about taking that stress off the bearing. You notice that wheel is 0 offset. Like JD says they are still selling single wheel Toyota heavy duty trucks and some motorhomes in the rest of the world. Have your bearings checked or replaced while your at it. Start fresh so your sure there's no wear Linda S Oh and if one of your tires exploded you need to replace them anyway. Are they old?
  21. No were protecting his new toy. it's not that bad. There was a day when we would have all insisted you change the entire axle. Now we think some single wheels in the back will probably be enough. The thing most people worry about with single wheels is stability on the road but in your case all those suspension upgrades will likely make it very stable anyway. Linda S
  22. I'm sorry but no one solves the axle issue and still has fake duallies on it. It's those wheels that cause the problem. With them in place the bearings are under constant stress and eventually they will fail. You have 2wd so having different size tires front and rear isn't an issue. We've been doing this Toyota camper thing a long time. You won't find anyone here who will tell you it's OK the way it is Linda S
  23. That is in nice condition for an 81. Someone has fiberglassed over the huge front windows and looks like a good job at it. The sounds while driving could be bad shocks, ball joints or any number of loose stuff under there. You do have the recalled axle. It can break at the hubs and your wheel falls off. Look through he site and see more about it. Some have just gone to a single wheel in the back to relieve the stress on the bearings caused by those "fake duallies" That's what we call them. Inside wheel is no offset and outside wheel is extreme offset instead of both being the same like real duallies. Not good Linda S
  24. I don't know but I'm guessing he died and never got to produce it. Bandit and Chinook were already being produced but weren't fully self contained. There was a lot of opportunity to make a more comfortable, family friendly pop top. Hope you find out more. History is such a mystery. Love it.
  25. Somehow I think that is unlikely. The Mirage company in California didn't just stop making motorhomes because they moved. They had their license suspended to do business for non payment of taxes or some other irregularities. They were publicly traded corporation so the Feds don't just let you go to another state like nothing happened. Mr. Weis also would have been in his 90's by then if he was still alive at all. After suspension the name is up for grabs by anyone who wants it https://www.californiaexplore.com/company/00852336/mirage-motorhomes-inc Linda S
