Derek up North
Basically, up to date with rabies vaccination is all that's required. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals/terrestrial-animals/imports/policies/live-animals/pets/dogs/eng/1331876172009/1331876307796 http://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html And remember, if you're tempted to risk it, you might succeed in sneaking you animal across the border, but might get caught while trying to return home! Oh, and just for Pitbull owners considering visiting Ontario:- It is against the law to bring pit bulls into Ontario, even for a short visit. There are no exceptions made for: - Tourists - People moving to Ontario, or - Military personnel being transferred to Ontario postings. https://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.ca/english/about/pubs/dola-pubsfty/dola-pubsfty.php#TOC_09
Totem
what about exceptions for people using them as "emotional support animals" ? - now this concept was alien to me until a recent flight to North Carolina where I saw a special snowflake fly with their animal wearing a setup as if it were a seeing eye dog and yet the person was not blind and just had the dog to help "calm" her from being triggered into rage from perceived micro-aggression or something. - Seriously; sounds like a knoble liberal reason to have a service animal I guess, would Canada turn away one for that reason? I bet this one would make it: http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_24627353/oakland-woman-and-service-dog-kicked-off-southwest Edited March 31, 2016 by Totem
Totem
also looks like this was challenged in Ontario.. not sure what the outcome was though. I do know in USA getting your animal designated as a service dog is as easy as getting an anti-depressant prescribed. http://www.accessibilitynews.ca/cwdo/resources/resources.php?resources=495 Edited March 31, 2016 by Totem
Derek up North
"... no exceptions ..." in the law sounds pretty clear to me.
payaso del mar
"I have constant paralyzing fears of personal inadequacy, powerlessness in the modern world, and the size of my, oh never mind. I NEED my pit bull with me at all times to help me deal with the world and make people respect and fear me Like I Deserve......" (nothing against pit bulls, have owned several rescues, just poking fun at the mindset of many of the owners)
Totem
"I trained my pit bull as a service dog to fetch my shoes... problem is I needed a crow bar to get them out of his mouth".. yeah I don't get the pit bull as a service animal thing... detecting seizures? so whats it do when it detects a seizure, lock onto your leg and bite you till you come out of it? I know a lot of people that swear by that breed; but I just don't get it. Edited April 4, 2016 by Totem
payaso del mar
the pit bull owners would probably be horrified to hear this, but pit bulls are basically just a big terrier with short hair, albeit one that';s been bred over generations to be dumb and insensitive to pain: the Shaved Yorkie From Hell. they can be great dogs....loyal and protective, and bond very tightly with their human. raise em from a puppy and you have a defensive tool that has great deterrent value, and can't be taken away from you or turned on you, nice to have in this all tooo ugly modern world. the problem is many of the owners and the way they raise/train their dogs. I suspect some of those idiots could turn a golden retriever mean......
