The meaning of GVWR when we're talking about the sticker attached to a vehicle is an official certification given. It is to certify the vehicle can carry the stated load safely and still be under warranty as long as the integrity of the parts are kept in optimum condition.

Obviously when we're talking about sagging Toyota RVs, that initial integrity has been lost. So has the "actual" or "effective" ability to carry max loads. Beefing up or at least restoring to OEM condition can restore it. So yeah, I'd assume term "effective GVWR" makes sense here. It's just an expression of mechanical reality - just as "effective compression ratio" is as compared to "mechanical compression ratio" (although those terms have nothing to do with suspensions).

That all being said - some RVs when new were able to raise the rating on their certified GVWR stickers by adding air-bag-suspension instead of just beefing up springs or using air-shocks. I assume that worked because air-bags take the added weight stress off the spring shackles and/or shock-mounts and give support directly between the truck frame and rear-axle tube.

I agree that a thread meant to discuss the mechanical aspects of an RV has little to do with politics. But - "childish" is a relative term. I don't see anything childish about planning travel so as to avoid areas that have concentrations of people you don't want to be around. Linda mentioned "freedom." OK. Freedom then to intentionally travel somewhere based on hopes of being around like-minded people. I certainly travel that way. I seek "like minded people" or better yet - almost "no people" when I hit the road with my RV. In a way, isn't that what many do when they come to this forum? Some sort of "info map" leads people here and I assume with some, the digital trip here is to converse with other Toyota RV enthusiasts (i.e. like-minded people). I'm looking to buy some southern rural land right now. I DID use several on-line info sources including electoral maps - to act as a guide where I could to best avoid US socialism, over-regulation and over-taxation. Makes perfect sense to me. To NOT do so, and just expect to fit in anywhere would seem "childish" to me.

I guess you'll think I'm naive but I have traveled for almost 50 years in the USA Canada Mexico & most of europe & north africa, asia, austrailia south america meeting people quite unlike me in situations and places that are unfamiliar and foreign, most by vehicle & boondocking. I won't bore you with the details cause I know you only go to "'travel so as to avoid areas that have concentrations of people you don't want to be around". So why not just look in a mirror if you are so xenophobic and scared of the world?

My incorrect assumption was that ALL owners of Toy RVs would also have that spirit of adventure? fun? exploration? But in a way you are right ...childish doesn't cover it at all. Really I should say it SADDENS me to think that some would use an electoral map or similar method so they could see themselves reflected properly. Do you have to change your plans as state & federal elections take place and govt fall & rise???

Do you or totem have passports I wonder....cause the bigger world would surely scare you even more than the USA.."to act as a guide where I could to best avoid US socialism, over-regulation and over-taxation".

Man, if you've ever traveled outside the states you'd have to put up with the fact not everyone is the same as you and that that is OK. Do you always feel so insecure that you the need to fit in so much?" again to quote you "to suggest that and just expect to fit in anywhere would seem "childish" to me" .

Additionally I don't think these other parts of the world would welcome the concealed weapons that totem requires (you also?)..let alone the attitude. This is what happens when highly ideologized mentalities come to the fore. I know I won't see ya in Greece!! or anywhere else you seem so fearful of...time to look for a gated community?

wow... who are you?

so much hate/intolerance in you and you really don't know us at all and come in here making all of these personal statements about us?

I have traveled the world more than you possibly for all you know... but you say this to bait me to engaging you on a personal level. It will not work.

Why are you asking me if I have a passport? Are you fishing for data?

You seem suspect. not an old account... and claiming Canada as home. I lived in Canada, where are you from Wolfe? Ontario?

I have Wolfe's in my family...that live in Ontario; wouldn't that be a hoot to find out you are infact related to old totem. Boy woud that make me smile. For you to learn that I am in the family wolfe and just like you, a person.

And to answer your questions now that they have become insulting...accusatory and have nothing to do with RVing, but rather politics, I will again attempt to draw you back to reason.

We have already informed you we wish to remain free and not arrested. I have already told you I travel to the states that do not consider me a felon because of my possessions, permits and protection of my family. If you travel armed to NJ you will be guilty of felony sir. A mother of 2 was taken from her children for CCW permit. The "map" also serves to let you know this; Blue states are unfriendly to permit carriers. You have now called me a psychopath, psychic, fearful, unworldly, right wing extremist, xenophobic...

Perhaps the person that needs tolerance is you. I go where I am permitted, I follow the laws. I obey. I vote. I fear nothing because of who I am as a person. I participate, I help people and I am an American sir. You have a good day with that Guac, you have earned it.

Also, your guesses are so laughable...

  • I shouldn't even give this information but yes, I have a passport have been all over the world (for work, not pleasure)
  • I am Greek. (25%), so you you might not find me in Greece but you cannot take the Greek out of me.
  • I like JDE seek to avoid places that seek to criminalize me, incarcerate me, insult me and tell me what I can and cannot do.
  • I like to avoid places that have people that make all kinds of assumptions about me and then try to act on them.
